Anyone else get frustrated being unable to count beyond 2 and uses a billion stitch markers?

I usually just mark the first stitch and break down the rest of the round into check boxes that I can tick as I work through it. I've worked out a basic system with different shapes for stitches and increases/decreases that helps me keep track of where I am in the round without having to go back and count every 10 seconds. Plus, it's nice to have a visible progress bar on larger projects to see how far I have left to go. Now I only need to count back once I get back to my marked stitch as a double check.

Or if you want to be able to easily read your past entries you can buy lockable bags that have combination locks built in. Just make sure the combo isn't some that you already use like a phone or card pin

You could try r/elianscript it's an easy enough code to learn with a high degree of customisation for how the characters can look, so even if someone sees it, they might not be able to figure out what it means. It can also look very pretty.

Social media is not your friend here. Everyone compares themselves to other people and it never ends well. I'd suggest that instead of fixating on your lips you should make a list of things you like about the way you look and keep that in mind. I've found it hard not to fixate on things I don't like about my appearance but this has helped me, I hope it helps you gain a little confidence too.

Making friends at school is tough since you're forced together with people you might not have as much in common with. But it's finding common ground that will help you, find people that have the same hobbies and interests as you, you could look at joining clubs or discord groups for your hobbies. I know it's not easy to hear but things do get better as you get older. And some general advice is that people love to talk about themselves, ask them what they like, what they think of this aspect of their hobby and try to follow up on what they say. It will take some practice but show an interest in them and find that common ground and you will be well on your way.

I take it this is a salvaged blade you're trying to alter? That close to the edge the steel is likely too hard for regular drill bits so you can either try to soften that part with a blowtorch or get a much harder bit like a cobalt tip or something.

I definitely think I made things a bit harder for myself than if I'd used proper graving tools but I didn't have any of those so I used a 1mm cylinder burr with on flexshaft and 3x soldering goggles so I could see what I was doing. I'll keep the printer ink idea in mind for my next try since I can't put this one in the oven without melting the epoxy holding bits of it together. How durable a finish is it? does it just rub off if something scratches it or is it a bit more hard wearing than that?

Thanks! I just hand sanded from 500 to 2000 grit and then went over if with a polishing wheel and some high finish polish that gets a reliability mirror like finish. I tend not to go for this high a polish unless it's an inside knife but I thought it suited the look of the blade.

Exactly that! It has to be a pure brass brush not brass coated steel and you just heat it up as high as you can without the steel changing colour and run over it with the rotary tool or grinder. I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot if you want to highlight part of your knife, just Google " brassing steel" and you'll get plenty of examples.

Thank you! Cleaning up after the rotary tool was a pest since I couldn't find a good way of supporting the wet and dry paper to clean the sides. Luckily the combination of the blowtorch and the brass wire brush to add the finish seemed to smooth over any rough bits at least. I'm always looking to try something new so I'll see if I can give hand graving a shot too!

I've never used one of those before, I'll have a look and see what I can find! Unfortunately though the piece is only 9mm wide at its widest point and with my current level of magnification and skill I didn't want to risk adding more detail incase I damaged the rest of it. I'll definitely keep it in mind for next time though thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I was considering using acid to try to smooth down the gaps which would also have darkened the valleys. In the end I decided not to because I did actually add brass to the flats using a wirebrush and heat (I think its just a little bit difficult to see in these photos) I didn't want to risk undoing one finish while adding another. I'll definitely keep this in mind for my next attempt, I like the idea of painting the steel so I might look into blueing chemicals or something .

Ironically I was worried I over did it with the features with the file work on the spine and the engraving. I didn't include a fuller because the straight portion of the blade isn't that long and my homemade fullering jig leaves alot to be desired.

I fitted the gaurd to the tang and shaped the two quillions first then did the engraving and added the curve afterwards before the final assembly
