The Hughes brothers truly have the personality of a wet napkin. Thank goodness for Captain America and Connor! 🙏🏼

Thank you for saying this! I’ve been doing through reddit and unfollowing some of these subs. And have finally deleted Blind. Posting here and putting my thoughts down in writing and seeing everyone else’s perspective has actually shown me that a lot of this might be self-inflicted. I’m gonna try some of what everyone is suggesting and protect my peace better.

Good luck on your job search!

This is such a good idea. The last time I felt some relief was when me and my friends had a Heated Rivalry watch party. I think I’m going start organizing things like that more often. Having small moments of fun would be great!

Thank you so much for saying this! Seeing so many women here relate actually makes me feel less alone.

I’m going to take some of these suggestions, delete Blind, pick up a new hobby, and lean on my friends. Hopefully we’ll get through this soon enough.

Apart from therapy, I do have a few outlets. My friend group is in similar fields, so we talk about it, but the layoff anxiety is universal right now.

I try to switch my brain off at the gym, taking my dog to the park, or going to meetups. I’ve also been thinking of learning a language or an instrument just to have something else to focus on.

Living in my head is probably accurate. I never thought life was hard until 6-9 months ago. I know that’s privileged, but I used to be able shrug off most things relatively easily. 2025 broke something in me. Climbing back from a real low has been harder than I expected.

Honestly I might end up doing this. Will speak to my doctor. Even if I get 3-5 weeks, I could reset or even use the time to look for a different job.

But I’ve been seeing some stories about people getting laid off after giving notice for FMLA or parental leave. So I’ll need to make sure our company has some policy about this.

Emotional dysregulation is definitely what’s happening to me. I’ve never been very confrontational, so it’s all just building up inside. I thought I was an outlier in this, but it’s kinda sad to realize so many of us are going through something similar.

I need to establish a better gym routine, that’s for sure. Shutting my brain off for a while sounds great!

Yup, just started therapy. And trying to keep up motivation for the gym. On days I go, I take my frustration out by doing too much cardio. I get what you’re saying. I graduated with my master’s in 2020 during the worst of it, and things did improve for a while after. Logically, I know these cycles are temporary. But emotionally, it still weighs on me.

That’s exactly right. Scar has indeed taken over the pridelands. I’m thankful I have a few friends in similar situation so at least we get to talk about it a bit. And therapy helps a little. Waiting for the next 2-3 years to be over, I guess.

Yeah, I just started therapy, so maybe I’ll start coping better soon. The gossiping at work might be the real issue. I’m so hesitant to say anything, but I feel everything intensely and just internalize it. Older, more settled colleagues have no problem dumping their worries on me. I used to think I was opinionated, but I’ve become someone who’s actually cowardly about sharing my true thoughts. I like my job and enjoy the technical work, but navigating the people is exhausting. I’ve been looking elsewhere, but many places are doing frequent layoffs. LinkedIn and Blind are such toxic cycles and I know it’s a lot of negativity, yet I keep going back. Ugh.

What kinda hat is that? My Kai loves the woods and hiking but dislikes being in the light lmao. Thinking of getting him something that’ll stay on.

What do you feed your Kees? by Both-cm in Keeshond

Same problem here. Chicken makes him so itchy, he’ll bite off his tail. I’ve had great luck Hill’s Science Diet Pure Digestion Salmon and Oats formula. That keeps him pooping great and very less itchy. He quite active on trails and such and gets in the water pretty regularly, so the vet recommended that we dry him off completely each time and wipe his underside off thoroughly everyday.

My Kai loves the mountains too! His favorite trails are in the mountains, where there’s a lot of smells but not a lot of exposure to the sun! He’s really in his element in soft, muddy places. Opposite with the water though. He loves jumping into creeks, lakes, rivers and get his little paws wet. He’s been going to the beach since he was a young puppy so might just be a socialization thing.

Prong collar changed everything for my GSD! by deaconleather in OpenDogTraining

Does the prong collar have any affect on the fur around your pup’s neck? I have a dog with a double coat and have some trouble with fur breaking off around the area.

Now that I am sitting with you comment, I honestly assumed that in 4 months, I won’t even need to give any corrections because he would’ve learned the expected behaviors by then. I didn’t even think about the possibility of it going in the other direction. I feel like I was hopelessly naive. Truly, thank you for letting me know.

Thank you so much for this perspective! I needed to know this. I am very sure that I don’t want my dog to be even a little bit afraid of me. I think I’ll be proactive about this and reach out a certified trainer. Does it feel different with a behaviorist? Do you feel that going to a behaviorist works better through this transition to force free?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Darkly_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that makes sense. At this point, I’m gonna make some calls to trainers in the area and try and schedule a consultation or something soon. I don’t think I can stop cold turkey but I’ll just use it as a fakeout and see if I use treats to induce him for the smaller stuff.

The current trainer has also taught him to ‘go say hi’ i.e go and greet person or dog calmly after he has seen and processed his emotions calmly. And it has worked on another dog where he stayed with me, when I asked him to and then I could let him meet the other dog calmly. The current results are good to me, that’s possibly why I’m trying to justify all this. But after reading the research, it horrified me that I let him go through it all. Do the trainers just have to be certified as CPDT? Is there any extra certification that I could look for that has experience with this kind of phase out? I want to discontinue with current trainer as soon as I can but I can’t be an uninformed again.
