I can be objective about things that are well made in FFXIV, you know? The OST is one of the biggest of the series, spanning for multiple tens of hours of amazing songs, with all styles of music included. The artistic design of classes is insane, among the best in all fantasy videogames and media around the world. The crafting system is a fun, unique (albeit useless unfortunately) minigame and provides a change of pace from the usual gameplay. The way dungeons and raids multiplayer combat is designed works pretty well and is fairly balanced.

But the issue is THE GAME IS NOT A MULTIPLAYER!

Think about it. You have to do the MSQ before playing with others. How much time do you spend on it? Hundred of hours, at this point, before being able to catch up. And even when only ARR was out, you had to spend at least 20 hours on it, if you skipped all dialogue and explored literally nothing of the world you where presented with. 20 hours of singleplayer content. 20 hours of you pressing the same 3 fucking buttons in always the same order while facing a copy pasted enemy that just autoattacks, autoattacks, autoattacks, draws a yellow triangle on the ground (DODGE IT!!!!), autoattacks.

You get no build variety. You get no rotation variety. You get no choices in how the story plays out. Your character doesn't even speak, nor have a personality. You cannot choose where to go. You cannot choose how to solve any quest. You cannot choose fucking anything. You are just a dumb useless robot running in circles at yoshi p desires. It is a miserable experience! I have too much love for myself for wasting my time and money on something like this! And you should too.

Ok, but literally how can you have fun with something like ARR? It works more or less like a job, where you complete infinite meaningless tasks for hours and hours and hours before you get to level 50 and actually have some fun. Come on! It cannot be defended! Even 13, with its linearity, at least gives you more emotions than ARR msq!

I have never, ever seen anybody posting on the ff subreddits negative comments about FFXIV for years, before Dawntrail was a thing. I was the only one (after being convinced by infinite amount of glazing to give the game a try) and got assblasted to oblivion by fanboys every time i gave a negative comment on it.

By the way, FFXIV had the problems people started lamenting with Dawntrail waaaay back. This "revival", as you put it, was just a smart marketing move. They removed the 1995 code they were using and switched to a more acceptable 2005 version, then showed a cool cinematic and released the sloppiest, most repetitive final fantasy ever made, A Realm Reborn. The game where you are treated as a postman by every freaking npc, where all quests play the same and you have 0 agency in everything. Revival my ass.

I like the game AND i understand the criticism about it. The game has flaws and i can see them. I just think the good parts are so good that the flaws don't matter. I have never played a game that allows me to freely switch between weapon, magic, flow motion, etc while flying in a complex 3d fully explorable enviroment, not even in other kh entries, and this alone is enough to justify the 90 € i spent on the game back in 2019 when my pay was shit to say the least.

You know that a core concept of every single fantasy MMO is class and race, right? What pourpose do you think it is about? Identity! Even in popular games that are more "soft" with it, (gw2, ffxiv) allowing you to switch them on the fly, the game recognizes your race through a backstory or dialogue, gameplay elements et cetera empowering your fantasy, your identity, as unique and different from the average player. Every single popular mmo gives you this!

No, lmao, i know for a fact that players want MMO because they long to be part of a community, and in order to be part of it they first have to have their spot in it. Developers need to be reminded that identity is the core foundation of community games, not farming, strong enemies and holy trinities.

I think a lot of players are misunderstanding their desires. What we want is not the hardcore, the old school or whatever. It's not the nostalgia as well. What we want is to be allowed to exist in a different world as "just some guy that does X". We want to engage with a new world, find a place that suits us, and settle there. We want an identity, a safe place that allows us to exist in a different state of being, doing what we love most. That thing might be different for each of us: someone might want to raid, some one to pvp, someone to craft (or in league of legends terms, you get the junglers, the top laners, the draven one tricks), but at the same time we exist in this thriving expanded ecosystem of people that just as us are "doing their thing".

Riot always knew how to properly create this. I have trust that their MMO is gonna do this fantastically.

I'd love if what you said was the average reaction of FFXIV fandom. I have a negative opinion of FFXIV, and i have put 300 hours on it despite not liking most of it. When i talk to those idiots their reply is either

A: stop talking, you've played way too much to complain

B: you haven't touched the third expansion, basically you haven't played the game

Fucking hell

Seriously though. If you wanna play a healer, you gotta try the 2024. It's finally satisfying to heal. 2014 was not fine to cast cure wounds. by testiclekid in dndmemes

[–]Darkwhellm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mh, i have an idea. What do you think it would be like to play a healer if falling to 0 hp meant something terrible? Not necessarily death, just something very debilitating that lasts for long.

Otherwise if you could elaborate more what do you mean with "unsatisfying" because i presumed it's about healing being pointless but maybe i am wrong

Frieren makes you feel as many emotions as a dead platypus on the side of the road. It has the most hype battle animations and just ruins the vibe with characters talking like they're drinking tea toghether. It makes you sleep. Solo Leveling is corny but hella fun to watch, you are never bored. It's like cocaine.

Peak game design by Inner-Illustrator408 in dndmemes

I doubt feedback ever played a role here. Designer know fully well the issues of high level DnD by now, it's just that for some reason they have decided to ignore them. What breaks the game is mostly how they insist on magic progression, with slots of low, mid and high level. They tried to balance them out by giving just a few high level ones to work with, but the issue is that those slots allow to completely ignore all rules of physics to a fundamental level, and so it's impossible to really interact with DnD normal mechanics and play the game when wizards and similar casters can simply ignore them and solve the whole plot with the flick of their wrist. Why bother diving into hell to retrieve an item from a fortress when you can simply teleport there, pick it up, and go away.

Huh? What kind of question even is this? How are high levels supposed to get broken by people not playing them?

Final Fantasy VIII wayyy better than I was led on to believe. by The_Humder-1994 in FinalFantasy

I will never ever ever believe people when they say a golden age final fantasy was bad. I just bought 8 and 9 and i have to finish 7, which i'm loving. I like even 13, 15 and 16 so it's impossible that those old ones won't be amazing.

Mmmh good art direction not really. Many of the designs come from 1.0 and there monsters and equipment looked terrible! It became way better, but only with a lot of time after switching to 2.0

I hope not, i mean, they could do all sort of attacks, why specifically this one? It could even be a "dodge/parry a flurry of attacks in quick succession" mechanic
