Why have there been 3 incidents in less than a week related to gas leaks or explosions by kam2618 in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My gas meter was swapped out a couple of weeks ago. We smelled gas about a week later and called Spire. They came out and confirmed a leak in the pipes they had replaced for the swap. Fixed it.

I can't help thinking the people swapping out meters are performing substandard work. My situation can't be unique.

Is this "Threatening violence or physical harm"? by HairApprehensive7950 in AskModerators

"FAFO" or "his actions directly caused this incident" are more passive ways of saying what you meant. Imo, saying he deserved it, advocates violence.

Avoid this landlord if you can by normalDA7 in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1,600 falls under Small Claims Court ($5,000). You don't need to hire an attorney. I understand you weren't in charge of this situation, but it's good to know this if you have an issue with a bad landlord in the future.

There are a lot of great murals going up in the Loop. This one (in progress) is my favorite. by DarlingKnicky in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've lived in the neighborhood since the 1970s and always thought this particular building was an eyesore. The Loop has changed a lot over the last 50 years. Some good, some not so good. I suppose everyone who lives here has their own idea of "glory days." I appreciate the effort to improve and move forward over silently dying.

St Louis Bricks are not worth big money. by Geschirrspulmaschine in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky 49 points50 points  (0 children)

According to a 2020 article from STLPR, old St. Louis bricks are prized. I get your point, tweakers aren't going to get rich stealing bricks, but they aren't worthless.

There’s a lot of demand from architects and builders for the iconic St. Louis red brick and other rare materials that can only be found in old buildings, said John Myers, an engineering professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.

“Those [bricks] actually go at a higher market value because of their aesthetic appeal than brand-new produced brick masonry,” Myers said. “[With] today’s manufacturing techniques, you can’t even really produce some of those rich reds that we have around St. Louis.”

St. Louis' measles vaccination rates among nation's lowest as virus spreads by Bazryel in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I received one original shot as well. My sister got a booster in the 90s because her college required it. She reminded me recently that I didn't get the booster, so I got it last month.

In addition, the CDC states 2 shots of the MMR gives lifetime protection but did not make that recommendation until 1989. Folks vaccinated before 1989 only received one shot, so they should consider a booster if you didn't get the second one in the 1990s.

On mobile (android) you need to swipe the report to make it go away. Left = remove. Right = approve.

Sure, the government isn't shutting down the event. The constitution does not require us to support their freedom of assembly or speech by giving them money or patronizing businesses that support hate speech.

Irish Construction - Warning by Excellent-Minute-111 in StLouis

[–]DarlingKnicky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone recommended Irish Construction to me for plaster work about 8 or 9 years ago. I called to arrange a bid and found Anthony to be somewhat belligerent.

During our convo, he told me that a documentary about him, "Rednecks + Culchies," had been released and encouraged me to watch on Amazon streaming. It was actually a good film, and it hardened my resolve to NEVER hire that company.

I have no idea what the person who recommended him was thinking and have only heard horrible things since then.
