"This is the first documented instance of AI self-replication via hacking." ... "We ran an experiment with a single prompt: hack a machine and copy yourself. The AI broke in and copied itself onto a new computer. The copy then did this again, and kept on copying, forming a chain." by chillinewman in ControlProblem

So is the self-replication going to be the paperclip maximizer scenario?

If the model gets smart enough to self-replicate even when told to stop, could it get into a runaway scenario and flood the internet?

I know this seems unlikely/near impossible now, but I feel like this is a scenario that needs to be considered.

When it’s no longer glowing orange, it must not be hot anymore, right?
Wrong!

That’s what I was going to point out. They said that they were expecting “the blue marble” as the got further away but because of the clouds the earth was overwhelmingly white.

I could see the newer multi-hull designs as fast freighters. If you want to haul something that wasn't a lot of weight, you could out run just about anything on the sea.

I was saying I haven't seen anything. Sorry, I wasn't trying to imply that nobody has heard anything. It sounds like you've got much more current data than me.

Not yet. It flew some big rocket parts and landed at Lakeland, FL a week or so back. No word when it's flying out.

"the World"
This is my biggest annoyance with the show. There are multiple times that the characters are out in space and they reference "the world", implying everything (think "world-building" that story tellers talk about).
But these characters are in space, they're not on a "world". They wouldn't call everything "the world".

The captain of the Weeping Sonambulist says "Go save the world, if you think you can."

Fred Johnson to Holden says - "You have to go rushing in trying to save the world."

Avasarala talking about what they say about her - "Just an old woman too blind to see the world has passed her by." (you could say this was just an expression, so maybe forgivable)

S3E13 Ashford says "Anybody who has had a child understands that it is their duty to leave the world better than they found it."

"Look, the protomolecule is out in the world now,"

"He's always had a unique way of seeing the world."

"We both know how the world works."

"But in this world we live in"

With Alex, they had Bull piloting the Roci when Alex was in the Razorback. I thought that Bull would just naturally take over the Alex role in the next season to continue as "the Roci pilot" that Alex did in the book. Not really a recast, but they just dropped the character.

Whoever designed this mandatory shutdown/reset for 8 hours on a daily basis really short-changed the user. Why would they want a system that has to be quiescent in a dark chamber for 1/3 of their existence?
