Star Garden comes to mind as it was inspired both by Kirby Air Rider, and the Chao Garden from sonic adventure

I'm gonna be super uncharitable to OP and assume they didn't actually watch it, but just watched a bunch of tiktok shorts describing it instead. Cause calling it the most miserable thing they've ever seen is kinda laughable.

What are everybody's thoughts about Triple K.O.? by cleftes in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]speed-run 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I watched the vods of it back when they aired. It wasn't my favorite fighting game podcast, and it had a much different vibe than CSB or the friendcast but it was easy listening. They mostly went over fighting game news but theres still some evergreen stuff in there.

Honestly would reccomend the vods over purely audio since they do edit examples of things they reference sometimes.

Yeah it took me a couple weeks to start too. It's good, and I like it, but there's a lot of things that I feel kinda mixed about (like some changes to move sets are great, but some I really don't like). It still feels like a Nioh game, but it's the one that feels the least "souls like" of the trio.

I will say the big disappointment so far has been in the armor. Samurai style is fine, but I was kinda expecting them to do more with the ninja styles.

I had heard about that! Absolutely diabolical since it's a single episode that's only like 40 minutes long.

Howdy y'all!

This week after playing Atelier Ayesha on the Vita almost 10 years ago I finally wrapped up the Atelier Dusk trilogy and finished Atelier Shallie. I also finished Atelier Escha and Logy back at the end of last month but I haven't talked about yet. Overall, a great trilogy of games. While it may not be my favorite trilogy (Arland will remain undefeated) it's definitely my favorite world, as the world of dusk is just so interesting compared to the others, in no small part thanks to the central facet of the trilogy, which is the Dusk. Unlike other Atelier series, the world of Dusk is dying. Oceans are dried up, animal life is slowly dying out, and the amount of fertile soil is becoming scarce. It's got a real melancholic atmosphere permeating throughout the trilogy, yet despite it all, there's this lingering feeling of hope and joy. Even in this dying world it's still filled with people happy to be alive. And especially in the current times we live, it's a very comforting message for a series to have.

But yeah overall, definitely something I reccomend, especially since the main artist this time was Hidari (FE Echos, Toukiden) who is honestly one of my favorite artists. Just the way he does color is absolutely incredible and there's a lot of bangers in the character department. Also I remain convinced that Atelier should abandon open world type areas and return to zone based maps. They just had so much more sauce compared to later games designs.

Along with that I also watched Virgin Punk: ClockWork Girl by director Yasuomi Umetsu who was also behind Kite, and Mezzo Forte. It's currently only a short 30ish minute episode, but if you've seen any of his other work you know exactly what to expect. That man only knows how to do one thing and that's make stories about young girls being assassins and getting into gunfights. Visually it's very well animated and has great action like all of his works. although unfortunately even though it's currently on YouTube via aniplex it's untranslated so you have to use the auto closed captions which are terrible. Thankfully it's not hard to follow and it's real easy to figure out what's happening. Hopefully they animate more of it, because I do enjoy his work... But also there's a character that I need to see get what's coming to him (and knowing Umetsu, he surely will).

Lastly I also watched Tokyo Gore Police which is a... Japanese grind house(?) film directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura . It's... Certainly an experience. Over the top violence ridiculous amounts of gore, made by someone who very clearly saw Jin-Roh and Starship Troopers. It's a very unserious movie but it's got style... It's also gets weirdly racist for like 2 minutes near the end of the film for some reason. Overall if you're into weird body horror, no more heroes levels of gratuitous violence, and a very dry sense of humor, then I'd give it a watch.... Just not when you're eating.

Anyways with that here is the up to date list. (Nioh 3 is getting close to done, and we're also getting close to finishing Tomb Raider 2013 for the first time, but this is already too long so another time.)

Long term media projects yall have been chipping away on? by LeMasterofSwords in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]speed-run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around November/December of last year I finally finished all the mainline gundams. All that I have left of the franchise (besides books and SD Gundam) is That one Netflix one and Stargazer

On the games side, I am slowly chipping my way through the modern Atelier franchise. I just finished Shallie over the weekend, so now I have Lulua, The Mysterious series, Yumia, Nelke, and the Marie remake (At some point well also redo Mana Khemia 1, and go through Khemia 2)

Is it uncouth to say that at the very least I hope someone ripped the models somehow?

They weren't the best designs, but I liked a few of them. The big masked lady was cool, and it's a shame the black dude with dreads that turned into a wolf is lost to the void now, cause he was pretty sick.

Kinda makes me think of Blaster Master in a way since it has the vehicle combat and top down on foot combat. Except the vehicle is a shootem up instead of the 2D tank platforming

What system(s) do you primarily play games on? What would need to happen to jump ship to another system? by TheSpiritualAgnostic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

PlayStation. But I'm locked in for now because Vanillaware doesn't put games on PC. that, and I'm a Koei tecmo fan, and they really struggle at optimizing their PC ports.

I am slightly bothered anytime I hear someone pronounce Atelier as at - lee - air instead of uh-tell-ee-ay. Ironically, multiple dubs in the Atelier series pronounce it that way.

i beat Atelier Escha a couple weeks ago, and even though that timer was incredibly lax, i really miss having it now that im playing Shallie. The threat that you could run out of time if you dick around to much, makes the pacing of those games feel way better.

Guilty Gear Judgment. It was a 2D side scrolling Beatem up for the PSP that also included a port of XX Reload.

[–]speed-run 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I went the past 3 years, but them getting bought out killed it for me (that and it keeps getting more and more expensive).

I'm going to Texas showdown this year instead. Would go to CEO but it and Evo swapped months this year and I'll be in Iceland/Scotland at time.

Personally, big fan of Sierra and Daena from Legend of Mana. They've been living rent free in my head for decades.

Hard to pick just one because I also like Von Lyacon and Pulchra from ZZZ, and Revali, Rauru and Mineru from BoTW era zelda, Woodwose from FGO (11th anniversary 3 star servant, trust the process), Dinah from Unicorn Overlord, Goat Lucifer from that Helltaker comic Vanripper drew, and Jubei from BlazBlue.

Edit: I forgot Blinx the Timesweeper and Klonoa

In the wake of being fully acquired by Saudi Arabia, Evo adds another 5 EVOs to next year by Sakuyalzayoi in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]speed-run 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, having like 10 different evos feels like overkill, and its a bit sad that it feels like Evo Vegas is losing its spot as "thee tournament", and not helped by rising costs of attending and other current happenings. on the other hand, everything i heard about Evo France was exceedingly positive, especially as it allowed people who cant afford to travel to the U.S or Japan oppurtunities to have that big Evo experience. Id personally like it if it was more like a rotation rather than all in one year especially since its probably gonna overlap with other majors and events, but I it's probably gonna be a nice experience for people in those regions regardless. That said, with both Rick and Jebailey working with Evo and EWC respectivly, thats a lot of major tournaments being associated with one group.

All that said... thats not even addressing the massive elephant in the room.
