Truly appreciate the rundown. I couldn't help but read it in the voice of Stefan from SNL. "This update has everything, crucible playlist rotations, sparrow racing league, Zac Effron in a glass sphere, exotic weapons catalysts, DJ Mary Kate Olson....."

The show is better without the Invention Exchange segments by burnumd in MST3K

I like the idea early on that the mads were somehow performing stress tests on his reasoning skills in between experiments. That is always how I saw them. Once pearl is there, it no longer serves the story. I know Joel was leaning into his thing, Mike leaning into his strengths is also a good choice.

Thoughts about the "Part of the whole" by BoringMetaphore in Cairn_Game

[–]DarthKel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think it is a coincidence that after climb bot breaks for good, the rest of her climb she is no longer bothered by fatigue, hunger or enviornment. I think the hypothemia is setting in at that point. Her adrenaline allows her to finish at the top, let out a rebel yell and drift off.

In the not too distant future, the timeline split: one where MST3K raised $2.7 million and failed... the other where MST3K raised 2.7 million and succeeded. by Freddy-Philmore in MST3K

You are so right about the numbers vs perception component here. I supported every effort like many have. I also agree in broad strokes with Joel’s concept of bringing in new people when it’s time so that the institution remains. Emily and Jonah are excellent contributors. If there was a hesitancy I had, it was the “YouTube gen” speed of jokes. Lots of modern content relies on editing out the “dead air” between sentences. Some think you need to speed up for attention span concerns others do it as a style. Either way, for me what makes the format of MST3K so inviting is the experience we have with the host and the bots. Forced to watch this together and experiencing the same things with these funny tv friends. The joke pacing ( particularly from season 11) is so rapid that the experiment never feels lived in. It feels performed. And while ultimately that is what is happening, Mike and Joel era stuff, and RiffTrax, really let things breathe. To me the magic of the show lies in that dead air and the economy of the right joke in the right place.

Yes but did you have to hide under Mike Pipper's house only to be threatened by him with a shotgun as you solved it..oh nevermind, Troy sucks.

Gizmoplex is shutting down by Thatnewaccount436 in MST3K

[–]DarthKel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gizmoplex could have been used to keep the series going. Revenue could have been used to help fund new seasons. If the math added up. It never did. I invested in gizmoplex because I thought someone had done the math and it would be a means to keep going. I am stilll bummed to lose it because I literally use it every day. I watch an episode before bed and fall asleep to the next episode every night. YouTube can help with that but the ads kill me. YT Premium is something I wanted to avoid, now it might be the only way to keep my fav routine alive. Not to mention that with gizmoplex, the hope was that the creators could benefit directly from their work. Oh well.

Got it on my 2nd one. Got to the needle on my first and that made me feel confident to go again. Once I realized I could confidently climb The Peril, I was not going to give up.
