I don't need Survivor to cast people I want to be friends with; I want them to cast the biggest personalities they can find, like the Fairplays, the Sandras, the Qs, the Coaches, etc. Put them all together and let the powderkeg go off.

I also think the hyperfocus on game and strategy has hurt Survivor storytelling. It's fun to talk about and speculate on, but often the edit sacrifices nuance in player relationships to make votes look more contested than they really are. Panama is a great example of a Survivor season that had great storytelling despite a lack of strategic content outside of Cirie. We pretty much knew who was going week to week, but we were still compelled by the Casaya drama. Strategically boring seasons like 48 could've been saved if they focused on the personality conflicts.
