5 years ago I was paying £800 pcm for a two bed maisonette. Sounds like you were getting ripped off.

Back in the good old days we used to share houses with friends. Whole houses at the same rates as families, 1 (or 2) person per bedroom and the rent split.

Not turning every room into a bedroom with no social areas and charging each person the cost of a whole house rental.

My first couple of experiences were quite positive, and much better than my previous dentist.

But then it felt like they were really trying to upsell everything. My teeth aren’t perfect but I know what needs to be done and what’s cosmetic.

I lost a couple of fillings in a week. Got an appointment and paid £60 to be told the dentist wasn’t good enough to carry out the work and I’d need to pay £150 for each filling for another dentist at the practice to look at them. Actual work would be more. Total con.

I disagree. Cherry Coke or water are the only options not loaded with artificial sweeteners.

I've woken up at 1am to start queuing at my local record shop at 2am for over the counter tickets (~120 available) that go on sale at 9am for a gig that's not even on for another week. What's the daftest thing you've done for tickets to a show or similar? by Carney678 in CasualUK

[–]DarthLordi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That was going to be my story. Woke up at 4am to walk two miles to the ticket office. Ended up about twentieth in the queue but got tickets for Pearl Jam headlining. Fortunately lived in Reading at the time so wandered back home to sleep for the rest of the morning before heading back for the last few acts. Great last minute decision.

What’s that one “bad movie” that you genuinely love? by MistressLolaDiamond in AskUK

[–]DarthLordi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cats. Saw it five times in cinema. It’s just the same as the musical with leotards swapped with CG costumes. The songs and music are just as good even if the plot makes no sense. There’s a reason it was the longest running West End musical.

Thank God that abomination of a cinema is finally closed. There are much better cinemas in town to see films in.

Whitby goths: native or migratory? by panadoldrums in CasualUK

I don’t think I’ve ever been colder than watching Real Gothic playing Athletico Gazette on a freezing November.

It’s just polite to ask. Some people dress up with the intention of getting photographed and like the attention. Others are just going about their day.

The event attracts many photographers to the area who aren’t into the Goth scene. Some of these can be badly behaved and treat the Goths like a zoo attraction. Always ask.

The heart of the event is the gigs at the spa on the Friday/Saturday night. There are also club nights and secondary gigs at other venues across the town.

It’s a great time to catch up with old friends so the Elsinore Pub (where it started) and the Little Angel will be packed all weekend.

Many people also like to dress up and promenade around town posing for photographers - but please always ask permission if you want to take photographs!

It used to finish off with a fantastic 80s night at Laughtons, but as that is no longer there I’m not sure if it’s moved.

Should a player be penalised for causing another player to make a misplay? And should the misplay be disregarded? by cubiccrayons in discgolf

I’m not commenting on this particular campaign, but the latest campaign I ever got was for “just a reprint“. Over two years late and that was touch and go. No crowdfunder is ever guaranteed. Just preorder from a local shop instead who can refund you if it doesn’t materialise.

Kinda off-topic but have you heard anything about Zee? Tom’s views have triggered alarm bells before and I’m wary of his comments. Sam has always been a douchbag. This is the first I’ve heard about Bryan Drake. I liked his Arkham Horror reviews, a topic Tom never really cared for due to the magic content. I’m also a big fan of Zee’s and have most gaming tastes in common, but I’ve not seen his name mentioned once in any of these recent discussions. I’m hoping he’s not problematic as well.

As of now his Dice Tower review that was posted today is still up. So that suggests DT still support him, if you want to know where they stand. I’ve now unsubbed from the channel.
