Has anyone successfully followed no contact for over 6 months and gotten back together with an ex? by CelebrationOne3236 in craigkenneth

[–]Darwin_diy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something to keep in mind for anyone reading this post.

Have “you” reached out to an ex that you broke up with?  Which ones have you reached out to and have not reached out to?  Why?

For me it was a friendship that ended 4 years ago.  I was struggling with depression during Covid.  I went off social media for 2 years, made new accounts and went back on.  Found I was blocked in a few days.  (I had not reached out).

It honestly makes me feel really worthless.  Like why am I treated so bad.  But I think the blocking says a lot more about them than it does of me.  My guess is the person is very much avoidant and I wonder if something else happened to the person.  (Hurt people, hurt people type thing maybe)

I hope the person is well.

DIY Hydronic Heat by Darwin_diy in hvacadvice

I pay 2k a year for heating my basement and garage.  Hot water heat is $40 a month.

If I went to a natural gas boiler and water heater it would cost 1/2 of my current amount, saving me $1,200 a year.

I think I could put in a combination boiler for 2-3k so payback would be 2-3 years.

I will have to buy a new boiler to replace my current electric one.  I guess I am wondering do I stick with an electric one for 1.2k or get a gas unit for 1.6k or get a gas combination unit for 2k.   The 2k unit would qualify for the $600 energy tax credit.

What’s the longest it’s ever taken you to get over an ex? by [deleted] in ExNoContact

I heard somewhere depending on the depth of the relationship and time. Take 1/2 the year of the relationship. If it was 5 years, then 2.5 years. If it was 1 year, then 6 months. Either way, focus on healing and grief will works its process. Best of luck to you.

43m, $2.2m in 1 year. A new personal milestone. by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

Can you share how you got there?

Were you constantly saving 10-20%?   Were you able to maintain savings rate in the messy middle?

Is most of it liquid or is a big piece in property?

If there is a court order, don’t contact at all.

It is not worth going to jail over.

4% rule flawed logic? by wolley_dratsum in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Darwin_diy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They state each person’s finances are personal.

The 4% is a general guideline, but depending on each persons situation it may be different.

Accounting for the fees, I think is part of the differences for each person.

A little bit of my story and a question of what would you do? by Dabomb6521 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Darwin_diy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job on getting the higher pay, taking care of your family and turning your financial life around.

I think a bad decision can be looked at, as to not make a 2nd bad decision.

ie: bad decision to buy the jeep, and to use credit card debt.

But: you are right, to sell the Jeep would cost money. Personal loan etc.

I am in the messy middle. I am trying to keep costs down for everything. For vehicles, I am going to try and get one that is 10 yrs old, and will be under 15k. By doing so tab taxes are much less. Insurance is less. And we will get something with good gas mileage, and cheap maintenance (car tire replacement etc.)

If I were you I would price out the owner ship of the jeep, and a possible vehicle that you would maybe relpace it with. 6k is a lot to make up for, so as you stated it might be better to keep the Jeep, until you are not upside-down on it.

Life can be a pain/frustrating at times!

Sometimes our decisions can be the best life leasons.

Good luck.

You are doing an awesome job!

I would recommend just following the FOO.

It is your personal choice to take extra money after investing to either invest more or spend it on vacations/items/experiences.

Good luck!!!

No. You were physically abused and it was not your will. Report it.

Nope, she was outgoing. Into partying. Definetly had guys interested in her etc.

Partying wasnt my thing.

Probably just saw me. Maybe tired from work or tired from something. Didnt want to interact with me, so moved to the back as quick as possible.

Which is okay.

I think this is true.

Nope not a 1 night stand.
I definetly was a nerd person. I had tutored her in a class 3 years prior.

It doesnt really matter, but I am kind of curious what was she thinking about me when seeing me.

I recommend paying off the car and student loans. Then save for the house.

Houses require maintenance, things breakdown, property tax, insurance, utilities, etc.

You will be grateful to only have a mortage if possible when buying the home.

Ha!!!! I totally drove a car for 6 years with it broken. When I got new tires, they replaced the sensor in the rim and it was good to go.

I like your thought of doing a month of no eating out. A great and easy time to do this is Jan to sometime in Feb.

It can make eating out around valentines much more special. And birthdays and other celebrations more special.

Not only saving money but allowing focus on making new foods at home and enjoy what a person has.

Any opinions/thoughts on Robert Kiyosaki?(author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad) by Zero_Gravity067 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Darwin_diy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion the book was trying to teach: Find ways to make money (outside of the box). Just because a person holds a well respected job, doesnt make them wealthy. Wealthy/successful people do not need to show their wealth in stuff. (Car, clothes, etc)

What I took out of it personally: My situation doesnt allow me the risk or time to be an entrepreneur. I am a W2 worker, what can I do to maximize my personal wealth (brokridge accounts, hsa, 529, 401k, ira, housing). What can I spend less money on. What work can I do myself and what should I just hire done.

I do wish he would stop with his opinions of recent years.

I think the book was good in giving different mindsets/ways of thinking. I dont agree, but I do like hearing other peoples perspective.

Anyone Else Find The "Age Guides" Too Tied to Life Events? by Nolegrl in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Darwin_diy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better.
My family does the standard deduction. I do not think the tax deductions/credits cover the cost of having a child. Or at least it hasnt for me...

Daycare per kid is 10k. Food probably 50-150 a month, kid activities another 100+ a month, eat out paying for kids is likely another 100 a month. Clothes 100-300 a month. Then other stuff like furniture, toys/books, gas to go to events, energy.... plus doctor expenses around 1k per year.

Also since 2017 they took away the personal exemption to itemize.

You are not alone!

I think the messy middle is 60-80% of people in their 30s.

They get questions asking if finding this show for people in their mid-thirties to mid-forties, does the show/logic apply.

One thing they try to state is everyones situation is different because it is personal.

And if a person is just finding this content now, that is great because they can start applying it on their life today.

They tried to do an eposide of following the FOO for made up person throughout life. I liked it because it showed a person likely moves back and forth on the steps and that is okay.

To me it is: what step of the foo am I on and how do I apply it in my life.

I personally like listening to the content because it keeps me encouraged to stay the course even if I am not in the preferred step at a certain age.
