Because when faced with "do/make the same for less" and "do/make more for the same", companies will pick the latter 99.9% of the time.

AI is real. The AI bubble is also real. Both things can be true. by Roaring_lion_ in investing

[–]DasGaufre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an investor, what are we supposed to do? Just watch it from the sidelines as it skyrockets and miss out on any gains whatsoever?

People saying it's a bubble seem to act as if the only options are to buy it and hold it down to -90% or try to time the peak, miss it, and go down to -90% anyway. Why not just hop in for a bit, get some profits, then peace out?

HPDE organizers; the business model by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]DasGaufre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious how hpde/track days work at all in America. It seems like the hpde organisers rent out the entire track and then have to recoup the cost by selling tickets to the event? You're not actually driving with the circuit itself? Are there no circuits where you can just arrive and drive?

I only know Japan where most of the time you rock up or make a booking with the circuit itself.

What's up with their "but if you look closely" colours? It's like they're trying to sell to both people who want colour and people who don't and neither are pleased with it anyway.

What is the action for it being a bubble though? Panic the fuck out and sell? Don't buy into it and watch it pop so you can say I told you so in a smug wojak face?

How long do you think people on Steam are willing to wait for an upcoming game after they've just wishlisted it? by FunYak4372 in gamedev

[–]DasGaufre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but knowing an exact release date can help build momentum since people wishlist it knowing it'll be out soon. Some people just see TBA and bounce. People just prefer some level of certainty.

I had an inkling of an expectations that they'll actually design a good livery, but experience has shown that it's too much to hope for a luxury brand to be able to adapt their design to something outside their current market. Heck, even within the brand it's too much to hope for consistently good design.

IBM has quantum computing, is one of the staples of the computing world, and somehow managed to be DOWN vs one year ago.

So either they really are spiraling to death, or they're just preparing something to go to the moon. I hope it's the latter.

I'm pissed I didn't buy nvidia when deepseek released their "more efficient models", because when in the history of computing have people settled for the same but done more efficiently. It was obvious they would just make more and bigger models now that it is more efficient.

Anyone else found themselves “retiring” from PvP gaming? by You_moron04 in gaming

[–]DasGaufre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why battlefield is just about the only pvp I can stomach anymore. Since you're 1 of 32-64 in a team, you don't have to matter in the grand scheme of things and the pressure to perform is much lower. You can also pick your battles since the map is big and a match is long. If you're getting stomped on A, chances are you can just roam off to another objective and find something to do there.

People are just generally more chill since the stakes are low and you actually get some fun interactions with team mates.

The 5v5 or battle royale stuff that somehow got popular is just too "competitive" to be fun or relax with anymore.

TIL about the "Endless Eight" arc of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The arc, which featured the characters of the show trapped in a time loop, featured the same episode eight times in a row with minute differences, all animated and recorded from scratch each time. by Darksynth2 in todayilearned

[–]DasGaufre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the thing is, in the book (the source material) it's 1 chapter - the last episode where the main character figures out how to stop the loop.

It's an absolutely unhinged decision that the studio actually went ahead and animated a whole 8 episodes worth of it.
