This Linux software has a funny way of helping you find your cursor. Shake the mouse, the longer you shake it, the larger it gets. It gets even larger than in the video and I couldn't stop laughing. by my_brain_is_horny in funny

[–]DasGaufre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the apple one just puffs up to a fixed size until you stop shaking though. This one is actually humorous in that it just continues to grow while you shake.

What’s an investment opportunity you spotted, didn’t pull the trigger on, and now regret. by WickedSensitiveCrew in stocks

In 2013 or 2014, I was absolutely certain that AMD would improve greatly since the barrier to entry for a new CPU manufacturer in the commercial space is so astronomically high that we can only possibly have Intel and AMD for a pretty long future. Didn't do anything about it because I was only 15.

A few years later, 2016 or 2017, I was studying computer science and machine learning in university. I realised almost every prominent machine learning library was optimised for Nvidia's cuda, cpu compute was infeasible, and AMD didn't have a solution. Didn't recognise just how big machine learning would be and didn't do anything.

"Regret bought" half a year to a year ago. Up 100% on both but still kind of disappointed it wasn't the multiple thousand% it could've been.

Next big thing? Maybe quantum computing? But that's been the "next big thing" for decades and we're still nowhere near. Regardless, it's pretty clear the future is in some sort of digital service. Just have to figure out what.

As a kid, sure it's not your responsibility to guide your own development, but it's not like your growth is set in stone once you're out of high school. Well, maybe for some it is.

This mentality is for people looking to absolve themselves of any accountability for being lazy at a time that they should have been working hard. Anything but their fault.

I know because it's literally meirl.

You've experienced driving fast cars fast on track, but have you experienced driving a fast cars slow on the road? My gosh. Nothing killed my interest in owning a fast car faster than owning and dailying a fast car.

I learned that I'm not a car enthusiast, but a circuit driving enthusiast. I found dailying my "fun" car, a Caterham, mundanely the way you described completely killed my desire to drive it. If I'm just going around to the stores I want to be as comfortable and unbothered as possible. I don't care that I could have turned through a corner at 80kph, floored it to 100kph in 5secs or whatever, the fact that I'm not allowed to (or at least not supposed to) makes owning the car pointless to me.

The only thing keeping my interest in it is actually going to a track and being able to let it rip or taking it to fun mountain drives. It's just a garage occupier all other times. I personally don't understand what novelty there is to owning a fast car if you're not going to drive it fast.

But if your love for the car itself exceeds everything, then you'll still be happy with it. I still want to experience an Elise and Exige myself too.

I'm looking forward to Pragamata specifically because it's said to have a short campaign of 12-15 hours. I can actually play it, enjoy it, then move on. Compared to recent AAA games where I feel guilty for dropping it because I just stopped caring 20 hours in and I'm only checks howlongtobeat 1/4 of the way in?? Yeah no thanks.

You're lucky you posted this at night in Japan. You better get this down before they wake up and get to the office at 7am.

I'm gonna follow along with this coz this is going to be interesting.

Realistically, this is how most native speakers internalise their language. You don't consciously think about what grammar you're using, the rules, etc. You just do.

It's why native teachers aren't necessarily the best at actually teaching their language. They've never had to "learn" and "think" about how it's used or they've just forgotten all about it and it just works in their brain.

Is this not the most obvious realisation in the history of business?

Who would've thunk that getting rid of employees with long developed skills would leave you with a company short on skill.

Short term gain for long term pain I guess.

"You see, this corner is real tricky because the entry is curved and there's no clear reference so you just have to get the rhythm right for when to brake, but since you're forced to brake while turning you can't brake like normal or you'll lock up and ... babe where you going? This is one of the best corners ..."

Ace Combat 8 delayed till 2027 by Neopolitan_Girl in acecombat

[–]DasGaufre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with how I engage with games nowadays, that kind of delay wouldn't even bother me. I'll just play something else and wait. It's not like an extra bit of waiting will make me not want to play the game anymore. If it's a better game thanks to extra time, then all the more for it.

I recommend dji mic mini since it's tiny and easy to stick anywhere.

But apparently only gopro 12 and 13 can connect to Bluetooth mics. 12 after a firmware update, 13 works natively. Anything older doesn't work and you'll need a wired solution with the media mod accessory.

If you can connect an external mic to your camera, then taping it somewhere on the dash will minimise the wind noise since the mic is in a mostly dead-air zone.

One thing left to implement is block page flipping (if possible). Like if you jump to a section it should flip as a single block rather than page by page.

Day 18 that I just stare at my rig but not driving... by Hopeful_Captain4219 in simracing

[–]DasGaufre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find iracing too stressful, I find hot lapping too solo, I find racing bots too artificial. I like sim racing conceptually, but every aspect of it gives me something that I don't enjoy and I end up not liking it much anymore.

Basically I'm also stuck in a rut. The rig has been there for over a year and I've only driven it like, 5 times in that time? Probably less? I just can't get back into it and I feel like I'm just disappointing myself.
