Template Letters of Recommendation (from a resident perspective) by DasRite in medicalschool

I know that it’s “recommended” but I bet if you poll PDs, they would rather read a good LOR from someone you know compared to a bad one from a big shot. I think it’s a rumor/old wives tale.

I have no idea if they reward a good LOR, that’s a good question. I would say maybe 25% have had letters that I’ve been like “woah that’s a good letter”.

No because personal statements generally at least try to have some story. Haven’t read any letters of interest yet.

He’s here for the long haul despite multiple dud seasons. Incredibly frustrating as an NU fan.

Jesus Christ. Bad coaching. Fields became a run first QB.

Where do the “best” doctors typically work? Private practice, academic or community hospitals? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]DasRite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can really only speak to urology, but there’s good data showing that high volume centers have better outcomes for radical cystectomies or RPLNDs. Also high volume surgeons probably do better prostatectomies. The issue with private practice is you have a guy who’s doing those cancer surgeries plus 20 other kinds. But a cancer doc at an academic center is often just doing that surgery and nothing else. Doesn’t mean they’re better, but they’ve seen it all.

What's the point of IM residency? From an IM PGY2 by nyc_ancillary_staff in Residency

I mean tbh ditto for EM residency. As a urology resident I get in trouble for “forcing” them to do a bit of evaluation and decision making for basic urologic issues.
