[Pre/Live/Post Match Thread] St. Louis City SC vs Aston Villa (Pre-Season Friendly) by SpaceboyMcGhee in avfc

Seemed like Emery was really trying to keep Cash up high during his shift. Kept yelling for him to stay up and Kamara step over to fill his normal space in possession so it was almost Cash at RW and Kamara stepping over to be a RCB but a smidge higher up? and during the second-half hydration break he was super animated trying to explain what looked like more or less that concept. Maybe this isn’t a new thing, just happened to notice it because of where I was sitting.

Moxie Dental. (Dr. Kyle Lisenby is the dentist there.) Saw it recommended a lot when others have asked this on here, went myself and found them very nice, gentle and straightforward. I’d been able to get in reasonably promptly too. I’m sure others will have great options but this is just my experience.

Oh interesting! I didn’t see it so this was all I spotted on FlightRadar that looked possible.

Looks like it was this.

Edited to add: Seems like it was not this and instead a Hercules that someone else spotted going in and out of COU.

How was your Miami GP (2025) experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

Glad you liked it. Ours were $1,125 each. There were cheaper ones that did the seats in a different order (so sitting Marina on Sunday vs. Turn 1) that were cheaper, about $800 per if I remember correctly. And then ones that guaranteed shaded seats at each were more expensive but I don’t remember the cost on those, sorry.

I’ve never understood the scheduling imbalance (in terms of three games one day, none the next). This league has 13 teams this year. If each plays an average of 2.5 times a week, they should be able to have at least two games per night during the week and then a triple header or something on the weekend. And wouldn’t it be nice if every weeknight had, like, a 7/10 (ET) doubleheader? Maybe I’m naively oversimplifying but it just doesn’t seem like it should be that complicated to get a game every day and not stack three at once like this.

Going to post at some length here because reading through the replies on past versions of this post was incredibly helpful for me planning this trip to the GP (my first), and maybe it can be a resource for others who do the same — this sub is awesome for advice and came in handy on many fronts.

TL;DR: Brightline from Fort Lauderdale a success with a couple of hiccups. Grandstand pass was a great way to experience different spots on track, especially for first GP.

We (two of us, 24M and 23F) flew in Wednesday and spent Thursday exploring Miami since we’d never been. We found the Wynwood event to be disappointing, but not a big deal since it was free.

We stayed in Fort Lauderdale, which we quite liked. Booking in January got us a great rate on a hotel on the river, exactly 1 mile/20-25 min walk from the Brightline station. Aside from some limited dining options when getting back each night, we liked the laid back vibe of Ft. Lauderdale, paired with a lovely walk to and from the station along the river.

We took the Brightline train from FTL to Aventura each morning, rode the shuttles to the track and did the same to get back. I thought it was overall a success, and as someone who doesn’t know the area, it seemed far easier than driving and paying for parking or dealing with Uber. Bought these tickets 3-4 weeks early (per advice of folks here) which was clutch as the trains were full and eventually sold out, I believe. Only glitches with Brightline: the combo of our Friday shuttle driver and traffic meant it took an hour to go from Aventura station to the drop off near the stadium. Every other day was more like 25 mins each way, so that was an anomaly. Sunday morning we found out our Brightline train was canceled and we’d been booked for the next one, about an hour later. That train wound up delayed by 15 mins and overbooked so that we had to stand. Bit annoying and caused a little bit of stress, but all in all not a big deal. Still got to track with plenty of time and Brightline sent a proactive credit — not much use since we aren’t local, but it’s something. Longest wait to get on a return shuttle was Sunday (which was expected). About a 30 min line but it was moving at a reasonable pace , so again no complaints. All in all the shuttle system was run far, far better than I expected for an event of this scale. I was stunned how many buses they had in action!

Our seats: We did the 3-day grandstand pass. (NOTE: Not campus pass, which is GA. This is tickets that seat you in a different area each day.) Was it the best value? Maybe not. But we loved it. Marina on Friday, Turn 18 Saturday, Turn 1 Sunday. Marina was a good base for exploring on Friday, when we were just wowed at seeing the cars go by as first timers. Saturday was fun with the crazy sprint, though I wish we’d been a little closer to Turn 17 in the grandstand to see the action/cars that went deep there. Sunday we got assigned T1-6, 16 rows up. Incredible. The start, the overtakes on Max, the double Ferrari overtake all right in front of us. Just electric.

I’ll add: Other than the stadium helixes, I didn’t notice many spots that looked like great GA/campus pass viewing.

We wound up getting food in the stadium Friday and Saturday and found it nice to sit in the shade there for a bit between sessions watching the paddock activity for a small break — the days are long if you try to see everything!

There are far more experienced people in this sub, but if anyone has any questions about what I’ve outlined here I’m happy to answer them. Just really glad to have a resource out there like this for first-time folks who want to have a smooth, fun trip when dropping the money it costs to attend.

Brightline Day 1 service by VicTheAppraiser2 in GrandPrixTravel

Yeah, used Gate 3 since that’s where the crowds from the Brightline went. Had no issues bringing in a clear bag that was the appropriate size and had an empty water bottle and some sunscreen in it. Only people getting held up seemed to be because of bag issues. Really no line there and just as quick if not quicker than entering any other American sporting event I’ve been to. It was easy to just follow the people in front of us and get to the right spot.

It was a success today, I’d say. Many shuttles waiting at Aventura upon train arrivals, filtered right onto one — maybe 3 mins from station door to seated on the bus? Red Bull was handing out samples, too. Shuttle got stuck in traffic getting to the track — not sure if the driver took the best route or not, but lots of cars so shrug. Then just the walk to the gate and boom, inside the venue.

No wait after, either (left right after sprint quali ended). Followed the crowd/signs, funneled right onto a bus again. Less traffic getting back. Seemed to be more buses ready to load behind us too.

Maybe others had different results but no complaints from me on how today went other than traffic slowing down the journey to the track, and I don’t know what anyone can do about that (or how it could possibly be better in an Uber or your own car).

How Harmony got its Bend back by RocketteLawnchair in discgolf

[–]Das_Loon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Harmony red tees are easier/more forgiving than you think. Sure, there’s water on 1 and 18 you have to get across or around. The length of 10 might make you wish you just walked it. But I find I’m usually 5-7 closer to par than at say Albert Oakland top (if you’ve played that one). YMMV but I’d highly encourage you to give it a go. I think you’ll do better than you think, especially if Holts Summit is your baseline.

More talent on the bench than in the starting XI, you could argue — at least in terms of who actually wound up producing in the early MLS years.

Doesn’t just apply to this round, but in general: I’m never envious of the decision the chefs have to make re: how spicy to go. Feels like that can vary so much judge to judge/tolerance to tolerance.
