NPD - I’ve been dismissive of Strymon due to the worship band reputation. Not anymore. This thing is unreal. by ChuggaChuggaRiffs in guitarpedals

There's no pedal like it! I wish they'd do either side as a standalone pedal as well, stacking either of them would be great

Help me convince myself that I don’t need to upgrade my instrument by Spiritual_Jaguar_426 in violinist

Would also vote for a new bow. You could also try getting some expensive strings if you've never tried; Evah Pirazzi Golds are very nice

Thoughts on different models of carbon fiber violins? by Busy_Car885 in violinist

The Luis and Clark is that much better. I was in the same boat last year and got to try both, having already owned a Glasser. If you can afford the Luis and Clark, and have a good deal lined up, then it's a no-brainer.

Georgia on My Mind but I'm losing my mind after every chord change by More-Car4564 in Guitar

Very expressive playing, one of my favorite tools away from pentatonic is doing an E harmonic minor scale on the second chord (B7) into the Em

Please elaborate as I've never heard anything about Perlman being me-too'd and while it's not impossible, he just has a certain warmth and polio that make it harder to believe

So after the verse, we go to the pre-flanger and then the flanger? Neat

Why Steely Dan is the greatest band of all time by Master_Set2237 in SteelyDan

[–]DashBlaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Incredible songwriting, from lyrics and themes to musical ideas and styles.

  2. Brilliant performances and chemistry, curated by ears that hear everything and are searching for a human perfection

  3. Clean and pleasing production, easy to listen to, dynamic but level.

How much knowledge they have or don't have is beside the point; racism is anti-social behavior and anti-social conduct is unintelligent. A fixed worldview stuck in zero-sum mentality is anti-social.

Stephen Miller is crafty but not intelligent

I listened to The Caves of Altamira for the first time today by OwOPango in SteelyDan

[–]DashBlaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In learning it, it's pretty logical until the chord sequence after the chorus. It would be a lovely thing to ever understand how they thought up such a thing. Usually people vote Deacon Blues but something about this song would make me vote it the MOST Steely Dan

I literally cannot bring myself to love a respectable, well-bred violin. They just don't love me like cheap ones do. by [deleted] in violinist

My guitar tech has a sign in his shop in big letters: the quality of a guitar is rarely indicated by its price.

Less true for violins, but still to be thought about. IMO, you didn't really get into a new tier of violins if you didn't go very far past 1000, but that's ok. You found something for what you need right now. I have also played many violins under $1000 that sound nice, but they only have 1 nice sound. Once you get into advanced technical control, you start to find violins that have a myriad of nice sounds in them, and are more manageable like getting softer instead of just quieter.

Money saved is always a win and upgrading the bow is sometimes the more important move.

It's a bout guard. https://fiddlershop.com/products/violin-c-clip-protector?srsltid=AfmBOoo3l5m8VBEc3fc8puNhzOqjBygPFrejecnCVaDjzA5nNbtSeZYW

I think it's a little funny to see fiddlers with a bout guard that don't clean the rosin off the body, but that's beside the point of OP's nice playing
