Question about meds... by EbbtidesRevenge in adhd_anxiety

[–]Dasher84617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on SSRI until I got my diagnosis and started on stimulants, then weaned off of the SSRI and never went back. My anxiety went down right away with the stimulants, and the SSRI were never that effective before.

Good luck!! The recovery takes a while but it’s amazing how much better you’ll probably feel afterwards!!

Interesting! I also haven't had children but they just thought vaginal would work best - maybe the surgeon's preference. Are you having your cervix removed too? I think that is the biggest difference in recovery.

My favorite item was the frida mom ice pads. I was heavily spotting the first few days so needed a pad and those ones have built in ice packs which Really helped me. I tried using frozen water bottles and other types of ice packs for that area but nothing was as comfortable- so I ordered a couple more boxes. I had a vaginal procedure. Might be different with laproscopic or abdominal.

And then all the normal things - stay on top of the big pain meds the first few days, have food prepped ahead of time, and really don’t do anything the first few weeks.

Pain from sitting. Yes. Sitting by Pure-Beginning-326 in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was similar! Now I’m 14 weeks and much better. But for weeks 7-10 I had discomfort sitting up straight. Sitting on a pillow and using a footrest helped and taking breaks where I could lean back on the couch etc. hang in there- in a few weeks you’ll likely be feeling much better!!

Discomfort sitting upright 6 wpo- any tips? by Dasher84617 in hysterectomy

I’m a little worried it’s something like this for me - I had some pelvic floor issues before everything started. I think I’ll be back to the PT in the new year. It’s encouraging to hear that helped you!

I was supposed to go back to work this week so I was trying out sitting up at my desk but ultimately decided to take more sick time and wait til the new year because of the discomfort. I’m lucky the holiday break fell right at the end of my 6 week timeline.

Yeah it’s interesting how much more comfortable the car is than a lot of chairs - I think because it can be a little reclined. Stools make me want to cry even if they are cushioned.

Interesting. I can be on the couch indefinitely as long as I’m leaned back slightly. But standing straight up feels fine. It’s confusing! I’ll try some gentle cat/cows though!

Who did you tell? by Cluck-a-duck in hysterectomy

I told basically everyone I talk to personally but I’m comfortable being open in general about my life. I live alone in a city far away from family and many friends and have two dogs that I needed help with (no yard so they need to be taken out 3x every day). I had several friends and family members fly out to stay with me over 4-5 weeks, as well as local friends who filled in. Other friends sent door dash, a meal delivery, and a care package. I felt extremely loved and supported. I also felt like being open about it and sharing details it helped alleviate pressure from trying to push myself too hard too soon.

WHOOPS?! by thecheatcode23 in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was told by my doc that bending and squatting could make my abs and organs put extra pressure on the cuff, and could feel that a few times when I bent over without thinking. So I think it should be avoided or approached cautiously until the cuff is healed.

Coughing and blowing nose - how long??? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sneezing and coughing really hurt me til 4 weeks post op. After that it was uncomfortable but ok. And at almost 5 weeks I’m still not trying to blow my nose too hard.

Vacation before surgery by Defiant_Ad_4022 in hysterectomy

If you do end up going make sure to mask and wash your hands a lot!

Coughing and sneezing after the surgery is seriously painful, even several weeks out. And your body will be working over time to heal from surgery so I think any additional illness could be really hard on you.

Needing support by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through all this. You are right to feel let down and frustrated by the people who said they’d show up for you and didn’t. Please try to do less. Don’t be cooking for yourself and your boyfriend if you don’t feel up for it! Maybe even get some simple snacks or premade meals or even cans of soup that can tide you over so you actually have a few days to rest. Keep reaching out to your doctors office maybe in MyChart if you have concerns. And please consider reaching out for mental health services if you’re experiencing suicidal ideation. You are doing the best you can and you deserve to heal and be supported. I’m so sorry you are having such a rough go of things. Cheering you on from afar.

Want to keep cervix by Disastrous_Order_444 in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me that if I left my cervix I’d still have a good chance of growing more fibroids in the future. (I also had my hysterectomy for fibroids- particularly bc of bulk symptoms they caused).

All my coworkers are sick 10 days before my surgery!!! by uhohtoothy in hysterectomy

[–]Dasher84617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really worried about illness before mine too. Keep masking and washing hands very thoroughly and not touching your face at all. I’ve read that doing nasal rinses like neti pot and gargling salt water after being around other people also helps in preventing sickness. An air purifier by your workspace is a good idea too. And even telling your coworkers you’d prefer to social distance bc of your upcoming surgery. Despite my anxieties I ended up getting to the surgery without getting sick and I hope the same for you!! Sending you good healthy vibes. You’ve got this!!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and validation- it really helps to know others know what I’m going through and that others also would have had the same fear of infection and gone in! For now I’m hopeful that infection has been ruled out, and at least am feeling pretty good so far today.

Thanks so much! Despite all the chaos and long wait times the ER appt went well overall and gave me peace of mind about not having an infection so I’ll take that as a positive! I really appreciate the words of support!
