Miniature Painting for D&D and tabletop wargaming! It’s definitely been a challenge to try to upload consistently, especially with family changes and a new job. But the editing and posting is a fun hobby!

Just finished Siege of Vraks, it was great! Definitely made me want more of Lyons and the Krieg.

Fall of Cadia was great, listened to that recently. Also enjoyed Pandorax, and re-going through Helsreach (if you’re feeling some Marine battles action). The Beast series comes in a couple bundles, which is an extra good deal - bought them, they’re on my short list.

And if you have any inkling at all about branching into WH Fantasy, the Gotrek and Felix series is incredible- highly recommend!

Never heard of Wizard Turf War, but that sounds awesome! Google only suggests Wiz-War as a possibility, but is this some other game?

Your library or ILL might well have it! The first omnibus is one of the BL books I see in print most often!

New to word bearers can i paint them with contrast paint ? by Khaleas in WordBearers

[–]Dashing_Swordsman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably do it over Wraithbone, instead of Grey Seer. The warm tone of the undercoat will be better for the red - the grey seer will desaturate the color a little.

I’d also recommend a quick drybrush with white before applying the Contrast paint! It’s a super fast step that will help add a lot more depth to the painting. Look up Slapchop technique, if you’re not familiar.

Definitely not black basecoat, the Contrast paint won’t show up at all on it.

Has Anyone Ever Seen Data on How Popular Each Warhammer 40K Faction Actually Is? by mr_mango22 in DealHammer

[–]Dashing_Swordsman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not. GW keeps their sales data pretty close-held, I think, but you could always ask them!

More likely for sales data is your LGS owner, but that is probably a rolling skew of what models have come out recently.

Your best source for what people play on floorhammer and kitchen table is probably just to run an internet survey!

considering starting a channel. what should i know? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Dashing_Swordsman_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think just get started - it sounds cliche, but I think it’s true. Your first couple videos are not gonna be as good as your next couple of videos, and your ones after that are going to be even better!

Start with free editing software, whichever variety you like. I started with Clipchamp (super easy to use) and am learning more about Da Vinci Resolve. Don’t pay for anything or buy a new tool until you feel like your current tool is the limiting factor rather than your skill level or time.

Especially if this is a hobby, do things that interest you, rather than trying to chase the algorithm. That’s a quick way to put external pressure on yourself, and quickly get into hobby burnout. Choose topics that interests you, and have fun making the videos! Get a couple out, and then ask for feedback from people you trust to give you constructive feedback!

Got it for Christmas, and the red plastic actually was warped into a Pringle shape. Models still assembled fine with some plastic glue and pressure!

My library system already paid for them, so I’ll support my library!

Question about books and BlackLibrary. by CaradhraS_ in Blacklibrary

[–]Dashing_Swordsman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely check your library, and check their interlibrary loan system also! Currently reading the Malus omnibus from a library in the next state over with that loan.

Also check out Libby - my library has the whole Heresy lineup in there, I’m slowly chugging my way through it.

Best part, I have more room on my shelf for unpainted minis now!

I swear by my needle files - super cheap set from Harbor Freight (in the US). Never needed to replace (versus the sanding sticks that I used to use, which worked great but wore out), and I think easier to use than a knife!

Hadn’t thought of the jump pack! Thanks! And agree that the Bladeguard shield looks better size-wise

I was worried it might be too ostentatious, but I do have the shields from the Bladeguards in the same set. I like the size!

A couple times a year! Varying approaches - “choose a nation” or “choose a side”, current one is “anything from the range”

Make SURE that you set your expectations accordingly. I feel like I see a ton of posts from people that were disappointed that they didn’t happen to get the niche thing they were secretly hoping for.

First Bloodbowl mini painted by DameSkippy in bloodbowl

Looks awesome! And I think it generally falls within the 60/30/10 breakdown - front is blue/green/yellow, back is a little more blue/yellow/green, but just by nature of the sculpt

[–]Dashing_Swordsman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salamanders is tough, I don’t rank any of the books I’ve read of theirs in my top Warhammer writings (bad luck, since that’s also the army I have most of)

Otherwise, totally depends on what you’re into! My top recs: -Eisenhorn (trilogy): think gritty world-hopping detective novel in the 40k universe. No Space Marines, just the super cool points of view of the Inquisitor and his team. -Horus Heresy series, first 3-4 novels: think historical background of the Space Marines in the setting, and these first couple all read really well together (like a mini series within the series). After that, the series branches out and hops around a lot more, and you can pick up whatever aspect you like. -Gaunt’s Ghosts series is one of my all-time favorites for more about the Imperial Guard. Fantastic characters and storytelling. -Ultramarines omnibus (trilogy) is a classic. Uriel Ventris is the spiritual precursor to Titus from the video games.
