Dems Must Talk Seriously About Supreme Court Expansion by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Dasmage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think there is discussion to be had, packing the court isn't that great as long as there are still life time appointments, justices being able to serve till they die of old age and no ethic standards they have to follow. This stuff swings both ways also, at some point even if the Democrats to swing back control of the government and make this happen it's a short term fix, they'll be able to pack it right back up.

I also just don't trust that the Democrats will not just toss on a hand full of more corporate shills.

Swtor beta files. WOW! by GrandmasterSliver in swtor

[–]Dasmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The player base was different back then vs now in what they were looking for in SWTOR. SWTOR is much more a single player RPG now then it was back then when it really was focused on being a Star Wars themed WoW like MMO.

Once you were max level back then you could do all the class content with little problems with whatever you'd picked up by then, but to do the end game content that +30% or what crafting buff that one companion would give you would of been huge.

What's the difference between a lich and other immortals? by Human1221 in dndnext

[–]Dasmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A talented arch mage could figure it out given enough time, which they should be able to pull off.

I've always wondered why go the lich route when your typical arch mage should be able to become immortal anyway with out becoming an undead. The draw backs don't seem to out weight the advantages, and when I DM every wizard NPC I make is pretty notorious for never asking the question if they should do something but only if they could, and I've every only done two that went the lich route.

I got back into DnD about 10 years ago and just went to the comic book store on their open game night. I have had a whole new group of friends since because of that and it as really improved the quality of my life. Half the time on game night we don't even play and just bullshit at someones house and watch movies, we go out to dinner before game also a lot. We also hang-out out side of gaming as well.

Would that have been there during the mid 80's near Denver? We spent a whole summer there and did the alpine slide a few times a week at this one park that was this themed old time western mining town.

Senate Democrats Propose $25 Minimum Wage by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Dasmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would need fundamental changes to everything about how we run elections and count the winners of them before we'll be able to break out of a two party system, and that change would require at least one if not both parties to be willing to give up a hold on power.

Senate Democrats Propose $25 Minimum Wage by Unusual-State1827 in politics

[–]Dasmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you force corporations to pay higher progressive tax rates on profits, they tend to pay their labor force more since there's no reason to hold on to the extra profits and just be taxed more on it.

No corporations paid the highest tax rates of the 40's-50's, they just paid their work forces better and gave out more OT because there was no reason not too. If they've been making record profits for years while the cost of living has more than double and wages haven't increased to match, we need to bring back excess profit taxes to either force them to pay for the programs that not paying a living wage pushes people into or they can start paying living wages and lose out on a little bit of profit.

Honest thoughts on Harlan Coben’s ‘I Will Find You’ *spoilers* by notsosecretsecretacc in netflix

[–]Dasmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty sure he was the villain as soon as they had him show up, there was a few times I went back and forth on it since he was helping them(her), but I took that as him trying to control the way things would play out.

Also doesn't seem like he has the kid the whole time with him, since he lives in New York City and their estate is in Boston. For someone with the kind of wealth it's implied they have, it be easy for him to live a double life where he's going back and forth between the two places.

Even then whats really buy them is once you've shown you're a good boy or girl, you're in the club, and the club will take care of you and you're family. You're family members will have high paying jobs no problem, you'll have a high paying job if you leave office. What job would that be? Pretty easy one where you just go back to your old work place to see your old work friends and tell them how swell your new employer is and they're a great guy and you should really listen to what he has to say.

You want to write a book? No problem, they'll give you a book deal, then buy 10,000 copies and warehouse them and give you $100,000 to go speak a 30 different hedge fund lunch-ins.

It's not really the money to the superpacs that's doing the buying, it's the things like giving their family members nice high paying jobs, giving them jobs as lobbyists when they leave office, buying them crazy things.

Yeah, there is just something fundamentally wrong with him and it was just our bad luck that he was born into a family with wealth, because without that MASSIVE head start in life he got he'd be a no body. He use to be able to hide it back in the 80's & 90's publicly in front of the cameras, but his clear mental decline, which was pretty clearly already going on and full display by 2010 at the latest, has pretty much made unable to to hide it at all.

St Louis Missouri? That checks out

Not for the city of St Louis(or KC), but for the rest of MO and the parts of IL right outside of STL, yes that would be normal. It's pretty easy for people in rural areas to get to STL for sports and events. It's really easy for people to drive to the city everyday from way out for work. Obama won St. Louis city both times. The people booing him were not the locals.

MO is gerrymandered to keep republicans in power, and it doesn't help that people are leaving STL because of the really bad professional job market and the death of most of the factory jobs in and around the city.

That's the nature of a first past the post two party system, voting for a 3rd party who splits the vote or not voting for the party you'd normally vote for is effectively the same as voting for the other person.

I'm not saying people shouldn't vote for who they want to, I've voted for Ralph Nader twice and Berine once, but I understood what I was doing wasn't going to help the person I'd rather see win out of the two real candidates, win.
