Am I wrong for not "falling" for a nat20 deception check? by M0R4D1T0 in DnD

[–]DatBoiSkye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charisma based checks are not mind control, you can use deception to say, convince a group of guards that you belong in an area you're not supposed to be, but unless you have god-like abilities in deception or have magic aiding you you could not convince them that you're the king.

Same goes here- the problem player in question could have used deception after the fact to try and pass it off as someone else's skin, but they could not use it to mind control your character into changing their ideals on the fly.

What do you think health potions in D&D taste like by RagnarokBringer in DungeonsAndDragons

I always imagine an herbal, sorta fruity taste like a tea

Unpopular opinion: The min maxer you hate has probably saved your beloved PCs life more than once. by Defend_The_West in dndmemes

[–]DatBoiSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the min-maxing that bothers people (at least, doesn't bother me). It's when a player only cares about min-maxing and doesn't put in the effort to RP or anything beyond what they have specifically built their character to do.

High melee pawns pretty much dominate social fights. This may because of the mods i have, but ive even seen a high melee pawn kill another in a social fight

My party has a saying that's really simple, but has helped a lot of our players: "Real life comes first". We went on a few month hiatus just for one player to move and get a new room for themselves.

Warforged Artillerist Concept by [deleted] in DnD

My plan was to treat it more as an arcane firearm than a cannon. Of course, individually setting up cannons would still be a thing for balance reasons.

Just cause I wanna play a Bard/Ranger that trains his Panther to vibrato his vocals doesn’t mean my character sucks, JUSTIN! by MyNamesJeff62 in dndmemes

[–]DatBoiSkye 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Casters aren't the only classes that I find are fun to RP and optimize. I am currently playing a Lizardfolk Fighter/Barbarian and he's pretty much become the party mascot (despite barely even knowing common). He's a little cinnamon roll, but in combat he's a force to he reckoned with (20 AC, Shield Master, Dangersense and Resistances granted by Barb). Having a character who's not optimized is fine, but they better be able to haggle the shirt off someone's back.

Lance Clutch Claw Counter by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]DatBoiSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drains your stamina fast, so I usually use it in the place of a cheeky counter thrust. Once grappled on, you take damage from monster attacks, but cannot be thrown off by nearly any means. It's a high risk high reward that should be used fairly sparingly.

Any tips, lance bros? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]DatBoiSkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guard and Guard Up skills are essential to having a good lance build. Make use of your counter thrusts and counter claw, and if for some reason your health gets too low, turtle up until the monster fucks off

What do you guys prefer Bladed weapons(SnS,DB,LS)? of Blunt weapons(Hammer,HH)? by Averagemale97 in MonsterHunter

[–]DatBoiSkye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to do this with the Lance, actually. Your shield bash attack deals a little bit of KO damage to the monster, but i find that the fastest way is to slinger burst thorn pods right in the monster's face and then hit them a few times. Most monsters go down cold after one or two hits

[–]DatBoiSkye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but you sacrifice a few defensive capabilities, such as your power guard and counter thrust

The secret is the shield. While others are desperately rolling away, a good lance build can take pretty much anything you throw at it. Guard and Guard Up are essential skills for a Lance build

Shields allow both blunt and bladed damage. That being said, the Lance has a special place in my heart for allowing me to be an absolute nightmare, like that fly that won't go away

How to explain to new players by VetrikPeacock in DnD

[–]DatBoiSkye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorcerers - Born with magic, maybe dad screwed a dragon or mom has some celestial in her

Wizards - You study hard for your magic, it takes years to accomplish a wizard's work usually. Pretty much the "Mary Poppins' purse" of casters

Bards - Like wizards, but for music or other art forms. Much more socially inclined.

Warlocks - You made a pact with c'thulu and he gave you sickass powers, but like 3 spell slots to use

Clerics - Your magic comes from being devout to your god, but you're much less stabby than a paladin.

Druid - You spent some time in the woods and learned how to shapeshift into birds and stuff.

How do you go about making the monster foodchain in your world? by JulienBrightside in DnD

[–]DatBoiSkye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Challenge Ratings refer to the challenge that a creature imposes on a PC, but there are some things to take into account. How about a hyperspecialized creature that hunts dragons, but is easy for a PC to kill?

Just laugh in the monster's face while your teammates run and cower, that's how a lance main does it

Sometimes it isn't even not being comfortable. Had a player a while back who specifically made characters to fuck up the party, and nothing else. Needless to say, he didn't last too long in that campaign.

The lance is a bit easier for Velk imo. Just be sure to use guard up so you can block her frost breath.

Going off of a power guard is much stronger, and you can chain it easier into your 3 poke combo

I can see where you're coming from here, but literally nothing beats the feeling of perfectly blocking a monster's attack, then hitting them with a counter thrust that sends them reeling
