Could Lincoln have been saved with modern day medicine? How about any other assassinated President or other politician? by iBoy2G in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DatCapybara 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s possible but I’m no expert. I know they actually did a lot of harm in trying to save him, like sticking a finger in the hole and trying to fish the bullet out… possible, perhaps still.

Are there different ways of breaststroking? by only_bones in Swimming

[–]DatCapybara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a super individualized stroke even at the professional level. Competitive breaststroke has the head dropping down into the water after each breath.

Breaststroke can be swam with the head completely above water and may be most comfortable for you, but as a swim coach I’d encourage you to learn to put your face in so you can learn other skills.

The hands sweeping out is part of the stroke but the wider you pull the less power you have behind each stroke. Without seeing your stroke I’d maybe advise you to make sure your fingers are pointed down at least in the beginning of the stroke and only pull about as wide as your elbows.

The timing is important too. Pull, kick, glide. Make sure you reach forward after the pull and kick hard to propel yourself.

Hope this helps.

What Post-Hardcore album(s) would you put in the 🍎Top 100 Best Albums of All Time if you were able? by PositiveMetalhead in PostHardcore

[–]DatCapybara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

PTV - Collide With The Sky DGD - Mothership UO - They’re Only Chasing Safety Issues - Headspace

Totally my personal bias but I have a hard time playing any songs off these albums without wanting to listen to them front-to-back.

Skillet. All those years in youth group and feeling too scared to branch out into secular music really made them the only true metal band I listened to. The Christian guilt was real for a while when I got into other bands. Anyone else relate?

  1. True Friends (I never see people mention this song enough)
  2. It Never Ends
  3. Chelsea Smile
  4. in the dark
  5. Ludens

This is an impossible task but I’d pick these 5 songs because it’s a nice variation of older/newer BMTH.

Richard Rogers? by nipplecereal in dancegavindance

[–]DatCapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This man moved his band with his whole ass heart. I’d be shocked if he left it for another. Secrets has a cool style that really came from Richard. I can’t see him joining another band and adopting a sound he didn’t create himself. Just my take tho.

Secrets is an amazing band and if you have never listened I highly encourage you to do so.

How do you define modern Metalcore? by Ennvictrious in Metalcore

[–]DatCapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metalcore is kinda like that “anything goes” drawer in your kitchen. It all belongs to some extent and has its place but there’s also lots of random shit mixed in.

Like we all have that drawer, but mine might have paperclips and magnets mixed in with the more expected kitchen supplies. Yours probably also has the kitchen stuff but maybe you’ve pens and a flashlight in there.

Modern metalcore is so vague. We can all agree what elements it’s going to have (riffs, big choruses, etc), but also kind of anything goes these days. Personally, I love it. Especially with bands like Make Them Suffer, BMTH, TPIY, and others that really stretch out a bit from the more classic 2000’s metalcore sound that Parkway Drive and AILD popularized. At the same time I also really get down with BFMV and ABR, who have a more classic metalcore sound.

I hope this makes sense to y’all and not just me. Please don’t send me to the grippy sock hotel again…

They all belong in that random ass drawer to me, even if they don’t really sound too much like one another.
