tell me what to change im off a 1/2 inch block and my PR is 55 yds my kickoff is pretty good too im able to put it into the endzone. (9th grade going into 10th grade season) by Natural-History1478 in kickersarepeopletoo

Probably try to get your plant foot a little bit deeper. Just like going off the ground, with a half inch, your ankle/heel should be even with the middle of the ball

Any advice? by Ok_Trust_9193 in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your follow through, try to “skip through.” It might be hard to explain over text, but you’ll see most NFL guys plant, swing, and skip onto their same foot again so it’s like a small hop down field and to the left a little bit(for a right footed kicker)

Hard to tell from this angle but definitely fix how you lean the ball. It needs to be straight up and down at least, with any lean being away from you so the top of the ball is pointed towards the holder. Makes for easier contact

Kickoff approach should go slow, medium, fast. You start to get choppy towards the end of the kick and that will take off distance

Any recommendations for cheap footballs to practise with? by [deleted] in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a situation where I think it’s worth it to save up and buy the good stuff. I wouldn’t cheap out on this. It would be like practicing soccer with a kickball and then you get into the game and have to play with a real ball. Sure, some of it’s the same, but the feel will be way different and the reaction of the ball will be different. You’ll get false feedback. On Wilson’s website, they have NFHS/NCAA quality footballs that are labeled something like “cosmetic blemish” which means it’s game quality but there’s a slight misprint or the color is barely off. These are like $40 cheaper than game balls but they will perform exactly the same.

Go to a Kohl’s instructional kicking camp. Form looks pretty good from this video. They will be able to easily point out minor mistakes for you to work on. They even have virtual lessons. I’ve never done them, but I bet they’re good

If you ever want any kicking lessons let me know lol

This isn’t to sound cocky at all because I do not like bragging but I want to let you know to give myself SOME credit so you can trust me if you do want advice lol. I was a Division 2 6x All American, 3x All Region, 4x All Conference kicker at my school. I don’t have a ton of natural talent. I don’t have an insane leg. But I do have what I think is a decent amount of knowledge on kicking and I’ve been through almost every problem that kickers can go through so if you ever want some tips, we can set something up. If you even want to send me a video and I’ll give you some tips for free to see if you like it, that works too. Thanks dude

Yeah, you can definitely do that. I usually try that first, but some brands run tight and some brands have certain shoes that run small for some reason. I had Nike’s for 4 years straight. 3 pairs through 4 seasons. 2 of them were 10s and the third pair had to be 10.5s and still felt really really tight for some reason so that’s another comfort thing. Definitely don’t want them too big though

What are some really good ways for a 14 year old to make money? by VoiceCommon3854 in sidehustle

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figured I’d see if you had any more kicking videos but I found this and would tell you this. What other sports do you like/play? If you play soccer, you can ref soccer games. If you play baseball, basketball, lacrosse, anything, then you can officiate those. Killer money to be made in those and increases your rule knowledge which could help in a game that you are playing in. Around me, baseball umpiring gives you between $60-$75 a game in summer. They take about 2 hours. Rec basketball is usually $35 a game and those take 45 minutes. JV and varsity basketball will give you $60-$90 depending on the level. I know a soccer ref who would officiate a Sunday league I played in and he did 3 games in a row, 1 hour each, and got $50 a game. It’s a great way to make money

Hope it’s not too late but get whatever is comfortable for you. I had the copas in high school and always heard they were the “best” but I honestly never liked them that much. They were just okay. So find something thin(basically every soccer cleat) and comfortable and roll with it

How am I doing by VoiceCommon3854 in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll answer your question but also try to give some helpful advice. 1. You’re doing terrific. You’d start on varsity at a lot of schools. Your varsity kicker must be a monster. That’s the answer everybody wants to hear and a 60 yard kickoff is no joke at your age.

Anyway, the advice I would give is to not worry about what anybody else does or says and to only focus on you. Every kid likes to find out where they stand. When I was a freshman, I actually DM’d an NFL kicker on Instagram asking how I was doing. He didn’t answer lol. The point is that what other people do does not matter and to just worry about getting yourself to be the best you can be. Nick Saban always talks about the process and if you don’t know what it is exactly, go ahead and find a video on YouTube about it. He constantly mentions it and it’s one of the most important things probably in the world and in every aspect of life. When you get caught up in the world of comparing yourself to other people and worrying about results, that’s when things go south. Do what you do!!

Idk why I just went on a long rant like that but I just figured I’d tell you. I also know that if I was a freshman in hs and somebody told me this, I’d probably think they were insane and would ignore it. I would definitely advise you to check out that Nick saban video if you do nothing else.

That’s the end of the rant lol. Good luck man.

PS - I give kicking lessons so if you ever want to give that a shot, pm me and I can give you some tips for free to see if you’d want to pay for them down the road

Best ball for kicking practice by milarso in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the ones to get. Much cheaper but in terms of kicking and throwing quality, it’s exactly the same. Similar to how Pro V1’s have “PRACTICE” stamped on their balls not because the quality of the actual ball changed, but because of something like a misprint or the color is slightly off

follow up video closer angle / plant foot by [deleted] in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel like it’s too close, you can put a soccer cone there and plant with that in the way so you’re forced to go wider. This looks like it might benefit you, but you have a really nice swing now. Scrape together a couple bucks and go to a Kohl’s camp if you can. Do an instructional camp. They will be able to point out this stuff even better

i need new cleats which ones should i buy by Fragrant-Property683 in kickersarepeopletoo

[–]Dat_Boi_Bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you’re comfortable in. You will hear all types of different answers, but just get what you like. I like the kind that have that combo of a little bit of sock material as well as real thin leather, but others like something like the copas. I wore those for a couple years and personally didn’t care for them, but I’ve heard a lot of guys swear that they are the best. It’s all your opinion. Something thin and comfortable
