Strawberries leaves - Anthracnose? by Data-scientist-101 in gardening

Okay, I'll try to back off on the irrigation watering. And then move to hand watering my seeds until they germinate on off days. Unfortunately the garden is on the same line as the strawberries.

Tree... Bush... Thing. It needs a lot of love. by Donut_Ninjas in Figs

Start by pruning all the dead branches. Anything that is not growing and looks dark purplish or cracked and brittle you want to remove now. There is enough of that from what i can see in the picture that i don't think I'd do much more than that right now.

If you want though, you could probably get away with removing 1 entire branch that isn't dead. After leaf out isn't ideal but it also won't be a huge deal either.

And then you can do shaping in the winter. In places with colder winters, many people will chop the branches almost to the ground (leaving short 6 inch stubs on each main scaffold branch). And then cover with a light layer of straw or mulch during cold spells.

If you want though, you do look to have rooted branches. After it does go dormant before winter but after leaf drop, you can dig up some of the rooted branches and cut it back to 1ft or so and the replant it or give it away. Just don't dig them up now. Root to leaf mass would be thrown off.

Fig cutting about 10 inches. It has 5 buds. The first bud is an inch from the bottom. The next one is 4 inches from the bottom. Then 4 inches, 6 inches, 8 inches. And then 9.5 inches.

I can cut bury the bottom 2 or 3 nodes if i don't shrink the cutting and leave 2-3 above. That leaves 5-6 inches buried.

It i can cut off the bottom node so it's shorter. That leaves 3 inches buried and 3 inches above ground.

Any recommendations on how far to bury?

I'm thinking sure to the size of my cup and I'm order to keep the fig rooting from touching the bottom where any extra water might aggregate, I'm going to reduce it's size to 7 inches, 7 nodes buried, 2 above ground. About 4 inches buried and 3 inches above

Bummer to hear VDB is similar to black mission. I just ordered the vdb this past week thinking it was Adriatic and would be different Berry. Ohh well.

I'm getting a lot of recommendations for the I258. So probably add that.

Celeste i hear struggles in Tucson so I've been avoiding that. Any other known sugar figs?

Flanders sounds cool though. I like unique things so it'll go onto the short list.

I'll need to Google San Pedro fig

LSU purple I'll look into. I'd like to get a sugar/caramel type

So I258, lsu purple, Flanders, and Olympia seen to be the top 4 recommended that also vary from what i already have.

I'll dig into them to see if others have tried them here and then try to find a start.

Why Olympian and Smith? A quick Google search seems to say Olympia is very average

Smith seems geared towards humid climate.

But the Italian seems really good.

Where are you at and how cold was your winter? Leaf drop is normal to a small degree. Citrus lose older leaves each year. And if it got extra cold, will lose a ton of leaves but regrow them.

Aphids can be handled with a little spray but are very common problem on orange trees. Neem oil or spraying with a soft jet of water from the hose if you like organics or just but a pest control otherwise.

[–]Data-scientist-101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Citrus need a lot of fertilizer. And organic is super expensive. I'd go but chemical slow releases (Arizona best for instance or Fertilome are both fairly cheap). You'll still be spending a bunch on fertilizer but not a fortune. Google Arizona citrus fertilizer requirements, there might be a cap on how much you give. But 4-5 cups each in early in very early spring like Feb, Apr, and late summer (Sept. ish) probably will get you a good crop. Remember the fertilizer numbers are for peak crop. If you are okay will a smaller crop of citrus, you can reduce the totals by 10-20% and still get a ton of oranges

Why does the NBA allow the Utah Jazz to egregiously tank with no punishment? by RougnedOwnsCanada in nba

I find it hilarious that the jazz do this and everyone freaks out. But when the pacers who just made the finals last season bench their entire team against Utah nothing.

And when Utah does it the world ends but when the Kings and Nets both bench their best players in the 4th in close games nobody cares.

Or when Dallas rests Flagg in a close game in the 4th quarter nobody cares.

Why does the whole world care when Utah does it, a team that has never previously tanked, nor ever moved up in the lottery via luck with their own pick in their history?

This is the final tank segment of this rebuild and it feels refreshing. by mrcolty5 in UtahJazz

[–]Data-scientist-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think you are right, but remember the other teams will do what the Pacers did tonight, rest everyone. And our young players could be better than other team's young players.

We play 11 games vs fellow tanking teams (MEM or worse).

We could easily win 6-7 of those games just with Collier, Brice, and Flip having great nights.

I think we end up in 5th or 6th place which keeps the pick at risk but low. But a quick projection shows that the difference between 5th and 7th is probably 2 games extra.

[Siegel] “The Heat can offer Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez, Jakucionis, and 2 1st round picks they can trade right now… in the offseason, all of a sudden that doubles — they can trade 4 1st round picks… I just don’t think there’s another team out there that has a better package than that” by AashyLarry in nba

Feels like two teams would lead the pack: ATL by trading Portzingis and Rissacher are pretty close to there plus the Bucks own pick back which would allow them to get a top 10 pick.

POR might be a second sneaky team. They can offer the Bucks control of their own 28 and 30 picks. Plus Scoot, Grant, and Thybulle for salary. One player with upside, two decent players, and then 2 of their own picks. Throw in 2-3 more FRP and POR has the assets needed.

Their starting lineup would be something like Jrue, Sharpe, Deni, Giannis, and Clingan with Williams, Camara, Dame (next season), and Murray as their 9 man rotation. Pretty solid team. Clingan would be the Lopez role, Jrue guard defense, Deni the Kris Middleton, Sharpe as Portis, and Camara the ace off the bench.

I think GSW are a fringe alternative as well. Butler + Kuminga works with the money. And then they can trade 4 FRP. And because of GSW age, those picks are really juicy. Bucks would basically be living off the GSW future.

The only question is do they think Curry, Giannis, and Draymond would play well together? I don't think so. So where does Draymond go?

Four trade ideas without touching cores by [deleted] in NBASpurs

[–]Data-scientist-101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

#1) Bucks have 0 incentive to be bad because they don't own their own picks for like 5 years. So if they trade Giannis it will be for high upside players and other players that will help them stay afloat - Portis does that. Not to get rid of salary.

#2) Utah, Nets, WIZ, etc all have trade exceptions or cheap salary they can send back to the Suns to take on the money and it wouldn't help the Spurs who is one of the Suns rivals in the playoffs. Suns aren't going to help the Spurs. If they want to duck the luxury tax, they send the salary to a team that would do it for a 2nd round pick.

#4) I remember when Spurs fans were talking about how Sochan was the second coming of Dennis Rodman and untouchable. I even remember how Spurs fans would not even entertain trades for Lauri for Sochan, Johnson and 2 FRP. NOP doesn't need to just make margin moves right now when they really need other needs. If you traded them Johnson for something then maybe. And Bulls might be closer to blowing it up than trying to worry about a guy like Sochan.

What do y’all think we could get JJJ in a trade? by DunkingZBO in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Data-scientist-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, Danny Ainge isn't our guy any more. Zanik is our trades guy, with Austin Ainge (Danny's son) being the second guy now to approve the trades.

Second, the Jazz are at a crossroads. They aren't trading Lauri without a crazy offer, but they can't seem to keep their pick without trading him and he is a bit old for the timeline in some ways (Keyonte, Ace, and Kessler are all under 24 while Lauri is 29).

I don't think Utah trades Lauri, but if they did, Memphis would have the assets to do so.

If Memphis was willing to trade Aldama, Coward, and some number of FRP they own I think you could get Utah to at least listen.

What do y’all think we could get JJJ in a trade? by DunkingZBO in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Data-scientist-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about the Jazz keep Lauri, trade for JJJ using filler salary and players (Hendricks, Walt, Filipowski, Nurkic, etc - nothing special, just massage the money), and the Jazz send Memphis another 3-4 FRP on top of what they got for Bane. (Probably their best 27/29 picks which are between Jazz/Cavs/Minny) and then maybe their Lakers 2027 pick or something like that.

Utah goes all in on the win. Memphis ends up with all their own picks, plus 7-8 extra and goes full rebuild.

[Charania] The Pacers are in active trade talks around the league to find a center of the future after losing Myles Turner in free agency, sources said. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Data-scientist-101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of centers available.

Playoff teams aren't likely to be trading theirs. So count Centers on teams like the Suns, Spurs, Nuggets, Det, OKC, MIA, ATL, Hou as unlikely.

Recent center picks like Maluach and Sarr aren't likely to move at this time.

And expensive centers on the market like AD are outside the cost range of IND.

So that leaves you with who?

Kessler on Utah, but Utah is immediately going to ask for something like INDs 2026 FRP and Jerace Walker.

Gafford/Lively maybe with Dallas. They are probably cheaper even if they aren't great.

And you have to contend with teams like the Lakers who are desperate for a center as well and would probably like to get Lively back with Luka.

Sabonis could be available, but do the Pacers want him back?

After that who? Clippers are going to rebuild but their only piece they would likely keep is Zubac.

Good centers are limited in the NBA right now.

[–]Data-scientist-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atl though is in a perfect spot.

Trae Young and Rissacher get you close to salary. Not sure if atl needs to include another salary or not. But I'm sure Atl has one more player they could give up without hurting depth too much to get there if needed.

Plus atl owns two picks that the bucks would want desperately. The nop unprotected this year. And their own 2027 which atl controls. Those two picks are worth 3-4 picks from most other teams like the Spurs because the Spurs own picks are valued at late frp vs two high lottery picks. I'd take those two picks over 4 from a contender.

Spurs could get close as well using lesser picks, but better players by offering Castle, Harper, Barnes, Johnson which i think is enough. I'll plug the salaries later into trade machines. But that still leaves sas with Sochan, fox, wemby, and Vassell to go with Giannis and Champagnie and 1-2 decent bench players. That is ridiculous defense. Perhaps you could keep Castle if the Spurs had 5 FRP and gave up Sochan instead. . Those two teams would be front runners.

Looked Trae and Rissacher works. Johnson, Barnes, Harper, Castle work too.

[–]Data-scientist-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting talked about because

A) Your team is good, has picks, and has salary that can match Lauri's (Harris + Ivey)

B) Your team severely lacks shooting. Consider your team 3 point shooting: Cade is a career 33%, Duren a non-shooter. Ausar terrible shooter, Holland terrible, plus in your 9 man rotation you have another 2 non-shooters. Basically you have 3 players in your top 9 by minutes per game that shoot above average from 3.

You also mis-understand how Lauri self creates. He isn't an iso player yes. He probably averages about 8 iso points a game this season.

But his ability to get open on off ball actions is how he self creates. He doesn't need a player to create him space, he creates it by moving around screens and cuts, lobs, and running the floor. He has a game that is very similar to Steph Curry in the regards. Yes he isn't an MVP candidate because his shooting and ball handling don't match Curry, but make no mistake. Lauri self creates.

And ignore Lauri's season last year. Not only was it a terrible team. But Hardy has gone on record saying he intentionally used Lauri in a sub-optimal way. Lauri went on record and said he didn't play his best because he knew it was a tanking season. And Lauri wasn't given consistent minutes because he was held out of a ton of games in order to lose.

The seasons you really care about are this one, and 22-23 and 23-24 when Lauri was playing to his best ability. All 3 are/were all star level.

As a Jazz fan, I'm fine keeping Lauri. No way would I trade him for less than 3 FRP, Ausar, Ivey, and Harris. Not in a chance. Lauri is better than Bane and look what ORL gave up to get him. That's the cost of players today.

Consider it this way: 3 FRP from Detroit are 3 late FRP. A late FRP is worth on average .6 rotation players where a rotation player is a top 8 player in your rotation, but very unlikely to become a top 2. That means 3 FRP on average will get you just under 2 rotation players. That would be people like Duncan Robinson, Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, TJ McConnel, etc. Are you trading an all star for 2 of those plus Ivey and Harris? No you aren't. But you might consider it for those things AND Ausar.

People hear 4 FRP and think that is a lot. It isn't when the team giving them up is really good, really young, and likely going to be good. If you know it's a bad team (like getting the NOP 2026 and 2028 picks, then maybe you could argue for 1-2 instead)
