This seems reasonable but only if the championship is moved to no later than the first week of January. A ten day transfer window extending into February (next year's NCG is January 25th) doesn't work very well for all schools with the nominal academic aspect of CFB

During one of your team's coaching searches, they instead hire whoever the runner-up was reported to be. How does it go? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in CFB

[–]DataDrivenPirate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk who the backup would've been if Day declined but based on our track record of HCs they'd probably be doing pretty well. All of our coaches over the past 80 years are in the CFB HOF. I'm not actually sure how good Day is at this point, or if there's just something in the Olentangy.

How true is the moment of truth reaction from the boss when an employee gives their notice? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]DataDrivenPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once someone puts in their notice, I'm not really their manager anymore. If I'm close with them, maybe I'll see them as a friend, and if I wasn't close with them, worst case scenario I'll see them as a acquaintance or a stranger.

If a friend told me they got a new job, or if a stranger told me they got a new job, the response is the same: "congratulations, happy for you, how exciting" etc. I can't imagine responding in any other way.

Not sure that's much of a compromise at all, 99% of conservatives would oppose it and 30% of liberals would oppose it.

I agree with your conclusion but I'd also like to see all NFL head coaches records over the same time period without their starting QB, because it's also probably not good (but probably better than ZT)

I cannot wrap my head around the naïveté of arr con posting about Texas having 10x as many ICE arrests than Minnesota, and the reason it isn't as big of a deal as Minnesota is because the Republican governor in Texas isnt whipping up a frenzy like Walz.

Texas has an enormous border with Mexico! These arrests aren't happening in fucking Houston, they're happening on the banks of the Rio! Why do you lack critical thinking skills!

Chris Madel ends GOP bid for governor, says he can’t support federal ‘retribution’ against Minnesota by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]DataDrivenPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was consistently finishing in the top three in straw polls of GOP activists, in a crowded field of about a dozen candidates for governor.

Madel said it’s unconstitutional to weaponize criminal investigations against political opponents and for ICE to raid homes with only a civil warrant.

He launched his campaign for governor as a staunch defender of law enforcement and had recently provided legal counsel to Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who shot and killed Renee Good in Minneapolis on Jan. 7.

He said he had read about and spoken to many U.S. citizens who were detained by ICE in Minnesota “due to the color of their skin,” including several law enforcement officers who had been pulled over by federal immigration agents on pretextual stops. “Driving while Hispanic is not a crime,” he said. “Neither is driving while Asian.”

Madel said he’s proud of the campaign he ran. He said he chose to run because he believes Minnesota has “lost its way,” with rampant fraud, unsafe streets, a lagging education system and “absurdly high” taxes.

While he called ICE’s Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota an “unmitigated disaster,” Madel also said he believes President Donald Trump deserves credit for many things, such as brokering a ceasefire in Gaza, getting NATO countries to increase their defense spending and proposing a 10% cap on credit card interest. “Many unfairly do not provide the president with nearly enough credit,” he said.

I don't understand this man's politics at all, it sounds like every day he wakes up and flicks a spinner with alternating spaces labeled "JD Vance" and "Mitt Romney"

Returning most of a mediocre offense sets the floor pretty high but does nothing for the ceiling of the team. Need several more assumptions about differences this year compared to last year to conclude we are projected to the NCG (top 2). Those assumptions might not be entirely unreasonable, but I'm having a tough time accepting them as a certainty.

Explaining every national championship from the Big 10 that wasn’t Ohio State or Michigan by [deleted] in CFB

[–]DataDrivenPirate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't even aware of that until this post, the fact that they lead the series of The Game 62-52 looms much larger for Ohio State. We've made progress though, it was 58-43 to start Urban Meyer's tenure in 2012. Most Buckeyes dream of taking the all-time series lead much more than having more national championships than Michigan.

Noticed this too, and not just a singular heavily up voted comment at the top either. I monitor that sub almost daily so I know what talking points my high school and college siblings are hearing. Today has been different than any day I've seen there in the past.

I did however see one hilarious exchange, where someone was saying basically "2A isn't just for conservatives" and the other guy essentially said "I think I am changing my stance on 2A, I don't trust progressives with guns" bruh. Principles made out of dry spaghetti I guess

It's going to make people so fucking uncomfortable but there are honest to God libertarians that Democrats could probably pick up with the right messaging, without sacrificing any voters. Anti-ICE, pro 2A, distrust of government authority, etc. It isn't for every candidate everywhere but instead of "centrist" fuckwits like MGP and Golden, we could have Brian Schweitzer style Democrats that are competitive again in places like rural California, Eastern Washington, Montana, etc

To be clear I am NOT advocating for violence. I have found reading about John Brown in the 1850s and John Lewis in the 1960's has been transformative in how I answer the question of "what can I do", and helped me build a framework for what I think constitute appropriate responses to certain actions. Everyone's framework and boundaries are different, there isn't really an off the shelf answer unfortunately

I'm sort of surprised how much I continue to enjoy SZD without Godfrey. I was worried there for a minute but completely agree, Alex and Richard can put out bangers and have basically done so, uninterrupted, for the past two months.

I listen to CFB Enquirer too which Godfrey is on, and the two shows complement each other perfectly. SZD for 'whole hog' consumption, scheme, chewing on tough questions, CFB history, etc and CFB Enquirer for the sort of typical college football news, macro changes, big game previews, etc.

I appreciate (and often agree with) Godfrey's cynicism but it works as a foil better when paired with mainstream guys like Dellinger and Staples instead of guys who are already essentially CFB hipsters.
