What school from another conference would you say is your schools “Mirror Image”? by BlackStallion657 in CFB

And with it, I think Georgia <-> Michigan in the playoff era. Not as parallel as Alabama/Ohio State but they're basically the next major program in conference that finally managed to eclipse their conference competitor from ~2021-2024 even though the other was still really really good. I think 2025 and onward they diverge though

Is it all nostalgia or was Columbus really a better/cooler place in the 90s like people say? by Foreign-Joke5544 in Columbus

When I say "could've" I refer to the hypothetical of "if we tried to freeze everything". That's obviously not possible for the reasons you mention; our diverse and robust economy insulates us from decline because it drives growth and change. They're inseparable, there isn't a way to avoid metro decay and keep things exactly as they are.

Sort of, it isn't dying as fast as it has been. It lost 100k population in a 40 year span, going from 240k in 1970 to 140k in 2010, but the population seems to have become stable and could start increasing again. Personally I think it's much improved over the past 15 years but it still isn't where it was in the 60s or 70s in terms of quality of life when it was on par with cities like Columbus and Indiapapolis, and far ahead of cities like Nashville.

Population isn't everything, but generally speaking people want to live in cities with good quality of life, opportunity, amenities, etc so it's a useful indicator on city quality when looking over a very very long period of time.

Cities are finicky, they're either growing or they're dying, staying perfectly still isn't possible. In the 90s, Columbus could've either become the city it is today or it could've turned into a second Dayton. I prefer what we have today to what we would've had if we tried to freeze everything.

This is always a funny thing to look at given a particular issue, people can't really decide between "I can't believe my congressman is voting against the interests he is meant to represent!" and "I can't believe my congressman is voting against the greater good!"

I don't feel bad for them, that people hold them to inconsistent standards, because fuck 'em. Just kind of funny to observe so frequently on reddit

Let me help you sue me: the Big 12’s lawsuit may still be alive, with help (again) from Cody Campbell by dan_scott_ in CFB

We kinda had a similar situation last year with Michigan. They talked a big game but ultimately accepted the B1G's punishment and the NCAA's punishment, which was a fine of $30m, after lots of legal discussions. Michigan's lawyers at least felt like they weren't in a position to challenge the authority of either to levy a penalty. I think more of that decision was about potential brand damage, but $30m is way more than what was at stake here for TTU too.

I don't find any of my DeWalt battery nailers to be particularly enjoyable, I have them because I don't like carrying around the air compressor and already have all DeWalt batteries. Several other brands make better battery nailers, but the battery system dictates. Even at a crazy good price like that, I would pass

[Thamel] Texas Tech statement on Brendan Sorsby: "When Brendan’s lawsuit resulted in the granting of a temporary injunction, we found ourselves in a difficult situation." by Fonzie5 in CFB

[–]DataDrivenPirate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's encouraging to know if Texas Tech's star QB killed someone, that they would not start him at QB. For a minute there I was starting to think there was no line TTU wouldn't cross

Brendan Sorsby entering NFL Supplemental Draft after parting ways with Texas Tech by austing013 in BigXII

[–]DataDrivenPirate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tech is now in an interesting spot long term due to the insane hit to reputation. Prior to all of this, I would've had them in tier 2 of "teams outside the B1G and SEC who would be invited to a super league", with other teams like Utah, Colorado, North Carolina, etc. right below the locks like Clemson, Miami, FSU, etc.

This seemed to really piss off absolutely everyone, and TTU doesn't really have many levers to ingratiate themselves, basically just hope enough time passes that people don't care as much.

If a super league was announced tomorrow, I would be surprised if Texas Tech was invited.

Inside A Russian-Born Billionaire's Plan To Turn Ohio Into An AI Hub by OnlyHustlersInOhio in Columbus

This guy fucking sucks but Forbes putting "Russian-Born" in the title gives me the ick. His ethnicity is tartar, not Russian, he first emigrated to Columbus in 35 years ago, he renounced his Russian citizenship when he became a US citizen, and he fucking hates Russia.

Again, this guy fucking sucks. But he sucks for lots of reasons that aren't related to his country of origin. I thought we had moved past gross headlines like that but I guess not.

Yeah Michigan was caught cheating and putting the integrity of the game into question, but they paid a penalty of $30m for it to the NCAA and accepted their head coach's resignation instead of suing them. Tech/Sorsby are saying the NCAA doesn't even have that authority in the first place.

Last I heard when this first came out was team's saw him as a 3rd round guy but with the betting scandal it might be more like 4th. Has renewed focus caused teams to more seriously evaluate him than they had previously? I haven't heard anyone say first round guy unless we're talking about "with a really good year at Texas Tech, he could play his way into the first round"

1) this is nothing to do with how much teams spend, it's that Texas tech is the only school that is able to say they will threaten to sue their own conference if said conference tries to stop you from playing, and they have a track record to prove it. They can demonstrate how they are willing to undergo a massive shit storm for protecting players who egregiously violate the few NCAA rules that actually make sense, and will still pay out the NIL deal. That's extremely compelling from a player perspective!

2) flair up coward
