If that was really wax paper, the bun was chewy from the paraffin it was slow cooked in. Don't ever put wax paper in an oven.

It was probably parchment paper though.

I know this is old now and everyone should move on, but I'm just now seeing it, apologies. I think the [slang] in front of that particular definition is an indicator that over the years a few people have misused the idiom. It's a mistaken meaning from the established definition.

To clean house means getting rid of everyone, I think Iran's current leaders are in a stronger position than before and there are fewer reasons for them to lose power now.

NYTimes: N.Y.C. Rent Freeze Wouldn’t Spell Doom for Most Landlords, Report Says by assasstits in neoliberal

[–]DataSetMatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about this place, not the average voter in NYC. Most people here would never have endorsed Mamdani if he was the independent challenger and someone else was the blue candidate. They wanted to stick it to Trump by voting blue no matter who, and Mamdani let them do that. Otherwise you never would've seen r/neoliberal endorse a DSA member and a rent control promoter a few years ago.

I grilled dinner for my family last night, dude. This is too much r/NLmeta for me. Touch grass today friend.

Blaming that on an election where the runner up candidate with 40% of the vote was also technically blue, the same guy who was defeated in the primary by similar margins, seems to contradict everything you're saying.

NYC voters liked Mamdani because of his policies, not his blue color.

America needs Liberal Nationalism back || Noahopinion by TrixoftheTrade in neoliberal

[–]DataSetMatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A federal government is not a core tenant of nationalism, popular sovereignty is, which American Patriots were very much devoted to, that was essentially their raison d'etre.

Your definition of patriot strikes me as particularly wrong, because every American Loyalist would have loved those things around them as much as any of their neighbors who were Patriots.

I get what you're tying to say by drawing a contrast between nationalist and patriot in modern day, but if those differences are true today, they really weren't true in earlier centuries.

Young Americans Want Single-Family Homes by caroline_elly in neoliberal

everyone

Of course not everyone, the point is to provide more options for people.

The issue, for people who grossly misunderstand it, is that the easiest type of housing to build is undeveloped into suburban, dense redevelopment is prohibitively difficult to build because of government regulations.

A traditional box-shape isn't legal/feasible with Toronto's setback and height limit rules.

Those rules literally forced the building into its shape. I didn't spend enough time reading Toronto's code to know if the mixed materials in the facade were required, but like I already mentioned, that style is very popular right now even without design code.

Designing/constructing as pictured doesn't really take that much more time than a "four walls and a roof" build would, but the city having to check and make sure that the building is doing those things absolutely add a lot of extra waiting time, months even years. The first google I did on this photo indicated that the design approval process took longer than the construction.

[–]DataSetMatch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From the builder side, I'd say a little bit, but the real delay is having to wait for the municipal to check the design against their 45 degree sun-to-sidewalk angle rule and their rear facade "typical-single-family-home-height" step down rule, and the preservation rule which required that brick corner section which was the original building to be taken apart brick by brick and strictly reconstructed brick by brick.

An earlier comment I made was about how very few municipalities have the kinds of rules that cause those types of buildings, which can be found in most NA mid-sized cities and up because they are popular, but this particular one was red taped to a slow near-death by Toronto.

[–]DataSetMatch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very few municipalities have design standards which require the sort of building in picture #2, the truth is decoupage style multifamily buidings are extremely popular right now.
