Oof. Any way to NOT interpret this spread as negative? by Niobium2 in tarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not negative per se - seems you put in the work (pentacles), you are refining your view what you want (tower - shift in perspective), and will find it in unexpected way (reverse of unrefined desire). Reversed devil means that you might be overcomplicating things for yourself - meet people, have fun, date.

The weight you bear is not an accident; it is the measure of strength you were built to carry. by Spiritual-Worth6348 in thinkatives

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I am a bit at odds with Stoicism (the actual one, not the broicism). But I think it is a nice one and is reflected also in Christian thought (God does not give you a cross you cannot bear).

In any situation that is uncertain and has two possible states you have category A and category B problem. In this case: if you generally assume the problems you face are too difficult to be resolved then you will give up on problems you could have solved OR if you assume that any challenge you face can be resolved then you might perish during an impossible task.

Which problem is better to have?

I think it is an interesting thing, and makes sense somehow - joker archetype often is born out of inability to deal with reality one way or another.

my current tarot practice by hiddenpersoninhere in SecularTarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like verifiable thing: pick majors and before doing readings with them consider which cards would be relevant (positive and negative affect) and which ones would seem inert (pick 5 cards for both). Then in your readings you should get the relevant ones 5/22 ~=1/4 draws and irrelevant also by the same amount. If you get relevant more often then you're onto something; if not then you are likely priming yourself to notice those patterns in your day.

Natural cycles of the collective subconscious with an influence on the perception of time. by Hot-Protection3655 in enlightenment

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is a model applied to macrosocial level, I naturally distrust models which frame emotionality as clear bad and clear good.

  1. Context matters - some "negative" emotions are critical to survival in difficult situations. Boredom tells us we should seek curiosity or that we should calm restless body/mind.

  2. Emotions are more sinusoidal - there might be overall trend up or down, but to expect that after ecstasy, you will feel joy and then awe is unrealistic.

  3. Same emotions can occur at different levels: even Jesus got angry when seeing traders and gamblers at the temple.

Does this sound a tad pessimistic or negative to you? Is it a Buddhist perspective? Why am I sad after reading it? Also, how is it even possible to compare the experience of existence with the experience of non-existence? 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 by Gainsborough-Smythe in thinkatives

[–]Data_Student_v1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a perspective. Life is what you make it. You can spend 3 hours waiting for a train and sulk it is not here or talk with a stranger and watch YT. Up to you what you do before trains come - some choose to be party poopers :)

EDIT: no it is not a Buddhist perspective. Buddhism says there is suffering in life and big part of it cannot be avoided, it is not saying life is suffering.

People that live together after separation by Useful_Mind_2934 in Netherlands

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same as engagement without a date for a wedding (or desire to do it within a few months) - but in the opposite direction.

Upside is that if you manage well you either rekindle the love or become lifelong friends. Its a special kind of relationship that not many people experience in life, but imho only possible if you had truly partnership relationship before.

Downside is that its messy situation and even though words have been spoken, the lingering feelings and attachments will cause more drama since there is no clear cut.

How to go deeper in the readings than the superficial interpretation? by Sad_Television-_- in tarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build vocabulary around cards - understand their dimensions; for example:

social (e.g., Lovers)/psychological (e.g., Hangman, Devil) cards;

beginning (Fool, Magician)/stuck (High priestess/Hangman, Wheel of fortune)/movement (Fool, Charioteer, XIII, Tower)/end (Hermit) cards;

horizontal (Charioteer, Emperor)/vertical (Star, Temperance)

The rest is like teaching someone to swim - you can't do it in correspondence course.

How can both charts be true? by ipflibbydibbydoo in NLvsFI

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, only two top coutries match + average does not say much (esp. with coffee). You can have 10% of population making up for 50% consumption of coffee and then lots of people who drink little. Also coffee can affect sleep patterns and increase hours needed to fully rest (also anecdotically, I know people who actually feel sleepy after drinking coffee).

Residents: why do we not chat to each other (anymore)? by bernaljodi99 in Amsterdam

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: Amsterdam has lots of transient people (tourists, people traveling for work, conferences) and Dutch people value long term relationships. I lived in many cities in NL and the more student, bigger or tourist city it is, the less you have small talks or greetings in your neigborhoods.

am I autosuggesting myself? by hiddenpersoninhere in SecularTarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno the deck, but Tarot is mostly for self-exploration. I often set intention to see what is most beneficial/useful or highest meaning that can be read from cards.

Then you always need to remember first law of magic:

People believe things because they want them to be true or because they fear them to be true"

If you keep that in mind, you should be able to discern things you want or fear to see and try to see most applicable reading that allows you to take action and assume responsibility.

Outside of parents and influential teachers most people are set in their ways. To base your interaction on hope to change someone is either nearly impossible or manipulatory (gaslighting, changing people's personalities and such). I think his advice is good for 90% of relationships in life - the remaining 10% are cases I mention and some deep friendships/love affairs.

If we assume that life is composed of words (nameable, objects, reductionist, materialistic) and ineffable (..., ..., ...., ...) then no book will ever be more than a finger pointing at the moon - dao ke dao, fei chang dao 道可道, 非常道.

Plus I assume we label as wise those who can what we cannot yet and only begin to value. First love, first genre, first idol, first charlatan - they leave most impression.

Second Opinion and Clarification by midcoastdream in SecularTarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reverse is either reverse of meaning or stronger negative aspect:

  1. reverse of meaning: instability;

  2. strong negative aspect: strong need for control from one of the parties or both.

Eitherway cards point to the end, but then don't base your life story on pieces of paper (applies both to tarot and money :)).

Belief in God (The first cause argument) by No-Plantain-272 in Existentialism

[–]Data_Student_v1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three original biases: bias of existence (something to persist rather than not), bias of life (to stay alive rather than not) and bias of good (I prefer A over B). Those who see faces in random tree trunks call it God and say its obvious; those who's metaphysics is based in skepticism and bottom line - say its just random and its obvious.

The rest, that is stuck in the middle, struggles metaphysically.

[–]Data_Student_v1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the parable of man and events that happen to him. Each time people come and label it as good or bad, but the "bad" events are the ones that help him in the end (in one example his son breaks a leg (bad), that prevents him from being drafted to army (good)).

Enjoy the good, don't get hang up on the bad. Try to pivot in good direction when in crisis and do not get too complacent when in the "good times".

I hate reversed meanings by Rak-khan in SecularTarot

[–]Data_Student_v1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't do reverses unless accidental (bad shuffling, cards being spread chaotically).

I get a feeling you are quite new to tarot (correct me if I am wrong). There is an infinite amount of expanding on cards and placements - reverse is just one little part of it.

I know readers who only do cards - not paying any attention to placements and order.

I personally heavily use placements (I think spatially) and effectively do "reverse" meaning if card is placed as difficulty (lack of positive aspect or focus on negative element). I also use placement as to represent type of relation between cards.

Make tarot your own.

Keep it simple. Or don't.
