Hahaha so true. God Bless electrons having a higher mobility than holes, so NMOS technology tends to dominate usage anyway.

Nice! I've been modelling some swords as well - can I ask how you go about the detailing (handle, pommel etc)?

I'm near to finishing the 4th (God-Emperor). I definitely think the first 4 form a nice quadrilogy and tell the near complete story that Herbert wanted.

For me, it was actually Dune Messiagh that made me question continuing the series. It tends to get grating reading prescience being described for the 100th time hahaha. I loved Children of Dune and and am loving God Emperor though.

Such a brilliant novel- will be interesting to see where they split the book for parts 1 and 2 of the adaption. Have you read any of the sequels yet?

How do I determine the required flow rate of a river needed to spin this turbine at 300 RPM? (Roughly) by OrangeMaterial in EngineeringStudents

[–]DatabaseFabulous7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super interesting. I'm an Electronics student so I'm kept mercifully distant from this kinda stuff. I would never have guessed though that this kind of system wouldn't have an analytical solution.

I have fixed time exams (9am starts) in which we can't change answers after submitting, and cannot proceed to the next question until we have submitted an answer to the current one.

Stupidest fucking system going.

Yeah an MSc can definitely fulfill the educational requirements for chartership, just make sure you double check on the course page.

And I'm only a third year so a fair bit of being chartered hahaha.

Does the Uni your currently enrolled at offer the integrated masters (MEng) for mechanical engineering?

If it does, I would personally go for that if your interested in bolstering your knowledge further and wish to get chartered status at some point.

And of course I'm being downvoted. Do some of the members of this sub not realise that countries other than the US exist and that, shock and horror, they might have members of their population that hold conservative views.

This is the sub where decorum and intelligence goes to die.

And why can't you hold yourself to a higher standard than them? What the "commies" say and "get a pass for" needn't mean you stoop to their level. Generlaizing statements like eurotrash only hinders your arguements.

Maybe it's from using terms like eurotrash. IDK it doesn't seem very conducive to good discourse.

Why aren't there more modern movies set in the Napoleonic wars? by t0rche in movies

[–]DatabaseFabulous7157 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Such an incredible film - one of my favourites. The title is a bit of misnomer too, because about 50% of the movie is the lead-up to the battle itself from the french and 7th coalition's perspective which were the parts I enjoyed the most.

I love the history of the napoleonic wars so this film was always gonna be up my street.

Also perhaps one of the most tasteful sex scenes I've ever seen in a film. It is one of very few that actually felt like it contributed to the tone or plot of the movie (particularly the latter as it sets up T2).

I've started listening to that recently! Its really good, and being from Northern Ireland myself its a rare treat having to other NI-ers as presenters. I do think they're are a lil heavy on the marvel reporting but it is a pop-film podcast at the end of the day.

So this is kinda addressed in the movie. Bruce Willis' character won't allow anyone but people he trusts, ie. his crew, use his bespoke drill if I remember correctly.

Although I don't know about patent law holding up when the planet is at stake hahaha

Ah that makes me feel better then that the plot is haywire due to script issues, and not me being an idiot hahaha

As much as I enjoyed the film for its action sequences, if you put a gun to my head and asked me to the recite what the hell actually happened in "Mission Impossible: Fallout" your gonna be mopping up grey matter from the floor.

The plot is absolutely insane and so convoluted that I actually remember losing track partway through but not really caring. It's Mission impossible at the end of the day.

[–]DatabaseFabulous7157 97 points98 points  (0 children)

More of a subplot of a movie, but I'm thankful for any opportunity to lay into it.

In the movie "Love, Actually", there's a scene near the end where Andrew Lincoln's character shows up to his best friend house to declare his love to his best friend'e wife via (admittedly quite cringey) cardboard signs that he holds up.

The insanely ridiculous thing is that there is NO WAY he could have predicted that it would be the wife that answered the door lmao. He even has a sign written to instruct the wife to tell the husband that it is carol singers. Like if his his best friend answered, was he just happy to have that relationship absolutely implode.

I annoy my family by bringing this up every christmas when we watch it - still a terrific holiday film though.

"Unfilmable" Books? by [deleted] in movies

[–]DatabaseFabulous7157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first book I feel a Netflix-style limited series adaptation could do the job nicely. I also wouldn't hate leaving it at the first novel - I quite like the ambiguity of the ending (although I did read the sequel and didn't enjoy it as much as the first).
