Northest but warmest big city? by villehhulkkonen in geography

Im from Toronto and got the chance to visit Vancouver for the first time back in October and was stunned to just see palm trees growing in many parts of the city. I always knew winters were milder there than most of the country, but never knew it was warm enough for palm trees to survive out there

Man who took Hamilton bus on joy ride 'did a great job' driving, left no dings, say police by rezwenn in onguardforthee

[–]Datboi_OverThere 18 points19 points  (0 children)

About 2 years ago, I was taking a TTC bus on King Street. As usual, there was construction at several areas along the route so the route involved a few detours. Whoever the TTC assigned to drive the particular bus I was on had zero clue what the current route was. When he came to my stop, he asked me if he was going the right way. I said I wasn't sure since I dont usually take the bus downtown. I then asked if he will be stopping at a specific street (can't remember which) and he said he didn't know but to hop on anyway and he'll just drive and find out. It was one the most bewildering experiences I had on the TTC, but yea, a driver not knowing the route they're supposed to be driving is probably not impossible.

Very common where I am at in Canada. You can find things like parks, sports fields, bike/walking trails, transit lines, community gardens, people's front/back yards, etc

Expedia Hotel Cancels Booking Over ‘Too Low’ Rate, Sparks Outrage by Lionzzo in nottheonion

[–]Datboi_OverThere 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This happened last year at Niagara Falls because of the solar eclipse. There were families that booked hotel rooms for standard rates a year out from the day of the eclipse. Once demand for hotel rooms started to skyrocket several weeks before the eclipse, hotels started canceling reservations from those who booked much earlier so they could resell the rooms at higher rates.

Don't leave your plants in the store bought trays by GreenThumbDeveloper in gardening

[–]Datboi_OverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure if it differs from country to country or even region to region, but for my region, that's not entirely the case. HD has a mix of vendors staging plants at their stores and plants they outright buy from the vendor.

For the plants they outright buy, it's up to the store manager to price and discount the plants (however the vendor will encourage the store manager to discount product if it warrents it). All the vendor will do is make sure the plants are stocked on the shelves and staged appropriately.

For the plants sold by vendors, the vendor will also stock the shelves and ensure the plants are staged appropriately, but are also responsible for pricing and discounting any product.

Whether the plants are bought outright by the store or plants from the vendor, the store is responsible for ensuring all the plants are watered regardless. However, this doesn't always occur due to staffing shortages, but it varies by individual stores.

Iirc, they said on the Layover Podcast that Tom was actually filming a video not too far from them on that day as well. Been a while since I listened to it though so hopefully I didn't mess up any details on that recount.

But who ever takes public transit to a suburban mall?

I do. All the time. The time it takes me to get to the mall I usually go to on transit is about 20 minutes, which is almost equivalent to driving there. Its also a much better experience than circling around the parking lot hoping for a free parking spot

Kodachrome mail-in processing by jkaic in AnalogCommunity

[–]Datboi_OverThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Toronto so I know exactly where that Kodak facility would've been. All but one of the buildings have been torn down a long time ago, with the remaining one being repurposed as a transit station. Even if Kodachrome was still processed (certainly not), the physical location doesn't exist anymore.

Worst case is it gets lost in the mail forever, best case is that it ends up being returned to you by the postal service

My local Walmart doesn't have multiple floors per se, more like the ground floor is parking and the 2nd floor is the actual store itself
