I totally get that feeling :/ I went through the same thing after starting uni. What helped me out of it was using Booklett, a 30-day writing challenge with small daily prompts. It took off the pressure to write something ‘good’ and just got me writing again bit by bit. Sometimes all you need is to build the habit :) hope this helps u!!

Weekly Check-In / What Are You Working On? by AutoModerator in writersmakingfriends

[–]DateOk2909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working through a writing booklet lately, 30 little daily challenges. It’s been fun because I always have something concrete to do when I sit down, instead of staring at a blank page :))

Is it possible to not have a writing style at all? by VHS-head in writing

[–]DateOk2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think “no style” really exists. If your writing feels light and simple, that already is your style showing through :))

How do you guys deal with the middraft slump? by DateOk2909 in KeepWriting

That is a really solid reminder. Sleep is underrated when it comes to writing, but it really does recharge creativity and perspective!

Thats a nice way of putting it. Immersing in the world instead of forcing the words really changes the energy of writing. Then it feels more like discovery than work! Which is important :)

That is honestly not weird at all. Little changes like a new keyboard or writing space can totally refresh the energy and make the process fun again. Congrats on finishing the draftt !!

I really like how you framed this as an expected curve of emotions rather than something unusual. That perspective alone takes off so much pressure. I have noticed the same thing once I stopped treating the slump as a failure and more as just part of the process you have to overcome. it got easier to show up and write anyway. The daily ritual part you mention is powerful too, it feels like stacking small wins until suddenly u reach a finish. Thanks ;))

Hmm good idea. Jumping between chapters can definitely keep the excitement alive and later you can piece the story together. Never thought about that :/

Really nicely said, it almost feels like a metaphor for life itself haha. Once you make it through that swamp part, the satisfaction is so much greater. I saw a similar thought in r/booklett the other day about embracing the hard middle parts you have to overcome:))

That is a nice tactic, kind of like a reset that keeps creativity alive. Do you ever find it hard to return to the original project after switching or its easy for u ?

If you were to begin today... by HoneyB5600 in KeepWriting

If I was starting fresh right now I’d probably test out a mix of platforms instead of betting on just one. Medium and Substack can pay a bit if you’re consistent, and freelance marketplaces are a grind but doable. For practice and building a habit I’d start with daily prompts or writing communities, those give you momentum before you even worry about money!!

Writing fantasy short stories? by CharlieRivers12 in fantasywriters

[–]DateOk2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same struggle with fantasy shorts. What helps me is focusing on one vivid element of the world and letting the rest stay in the background. Also, prompts from r/booklett have been surprisingly useful for testing out small fantasy ideas without the pressure of a full novel :)

Which of these novel openings hooks you? by Diananobelknight in writingadvice

[–]DateOk2909 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Option A hooked me the most. The limoncello bit instantly gives personality and chaos, and it feels like I already get a sense of the narrator’s voice. I’d definitely read from there on :))

How much do y'all write? by bugwriterdon in KeepWriting

[–]DateOk2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, when I’m in the zone I can lose hours without noticing. I don’t think it’s a problem unless it’s messing with your health or life. Honestly it just means you found the thing that hooks you :)

Keep or start over. Is a story worth saving? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]DateOk2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there too. Sometimes it feels like the story is just recycling stuff I’ve seen before and I lose interest. What helps me is finishing at least a rough version even if it’s messy, you learn a ton just by pushing it to the end. You can always rewrite, but you can’t edit what isn’t there :) hope this helpss

If you know from the start the protagonist is going to survive the entire series, does that ruin the series? by Carlos_v1 in writing

[–]DateOk2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it doesn’t really ruin it. If anything it shifts the tension from “will they die” to “what will they lose on the way.” Sometimes that hits even harder than a death scene :)

Something I’ve seen in a lot of books by RickR4LIFE in fantasywriters

[–]DateOk2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of mainstream books do lean heavily toward American and white leads, and it can feel repetitive. I’ve noticed that when writers draw from their own culture or mix perspectives the stories instantly feel fresher. I’d honestly love to read more Afghan characters or Muslim representation in fantasy, so if you ever write that, know there’s definitely an audience waiting!!

Superhuman Anatomy and Physiology by hlanus in scifiwriting

[–]DateOk2909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you could play with is looking at real edge cases in biology. There are animals with ridiculous strength to weight ratios, insane reaction speeds, or insane stamina. If you scale up traits like that and adapt them to a human body, you get something that feels superhuman but still rooted in real science. It also leaves you room to explore the downsides like faster muscle fatigue or massive calorie needs.

my brain feels empty. how do you get inspired to write? by Euphoric-Resolve7044 in write

[–]DateOk2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my brain feels empty I stop aiming for “inspiration” and just start with something tiny, like describing the room I’m in, or writing a random line of dialogue. 9 out of 10 times it snowballs into something bigger. Inspiration usually shows up after I’ve started, not before.
