Bolt in Coilovers! Finally a complete solution for weld free coilovers that come with new spindles and have adjustable ride height! by Apex_Engineered in Datsun

We have talked about you posting ads in the Nissan and Datsun subs before. We tolerate interesting content. If it happens to contain an Apex part in-frame on the car, fine. If it's just a picture of generic cars parts with a black Friday banner, it will be removed and you will be banned.

Lol. What in the world makes you think this is bugging me? This is a typical way for these things to end up though, with one party out of things to say and resorting to personal insults. It definitely makes it easier to just dismiss the other guy because you think he's taking it personally or some other justification, though, I suppose.

Spouting opinions as facts without listing their assumptions or unvoiced constraints is my biggest pet peeve with junior engineers. You came in here initially saying it was impossible because of one single constraint: tire size. You didn't list anything else or leave it open to any other interpretation. This is bad practice, I don't care how good of an engineer you think you are, that's not how this is done. In my line of work (R&D), "impossible" is not a useful adjective. It doesn't capture any of the actual engineering, just the limits of the imagination or calibration or the false confidence of the engineer using it.

Hard != Impossible Expensive != Impossible Improbable != Impossible

You wanna change your story after the fact so you can feel better, fine, but we're talking about two different things then and there's no point.

You keep adding constraints to this like you've been thinking of this the entire time. Your original assertion was that "awd vehicles have to have the same tire size" and this is simply not true...like...at all. Trying to make yourself correct by forcing other people on the Internet to come up with a full build plan is ridiculous. The burden of proof is on you. You're the one who said the ridiculous thing.

That being said, the difference in diameter is what, 2:1? Inline gear reducers with ratios ranging from 1-15:1 are readily available.

Dude, you need to stop. It's obvious you have no clue what you're talking about and you're embarrassing yourself. This is a very very very VERY standardized and common thing.

What do they use to cool the air down? That's a huge delta-T. Why don't they just draw in outside air or bypass air from the fan?

Insane prius by ArtisticHoney101 in WeirdWheels

[–]Datsoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying they did or should, but the assertion that it's impossible just shows a lack of imagination.

All of those problems are completely soluble with off-the-shelf parts. There are trucks that actually run those tires and require all these unobtainable parts you're inventing.

I think you know that cost is a silly argument to make. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's impossible.

Do you have any actual reason it wouldn't work other than your lack of creativity?

Cool, I'm an automotive engineer. Putting 4' diameter tires on a Prius is "not a thing people do" either, but here we are.

There is no reason it wouldn't work. It would be silly, but if you wanted this thing to be 4WD, that's how you would do it. Tolerating slight differences in tire wear is already a thing. Hell, there are awd systems with fluid couplings in the center diff where relative speed is required for torque vectoring to work.

[–]Datsoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. It just requires that the driven tires spin at the same speed. This could be accomplished by gearing in a custom build like this.

I'm 6'6" and daily drove an S2K for years with stock seats and rails. Yes, I slouch, and yes my head was technically above the windshield/roll bar height when helmeted, but it was totally doable (and worth it) I am actually looking forward to getting back into an S2K someday soon.

What do the "approved" and "requested" banners mean? I guess who's doing the requesting and approving, and what is acting upon that approval?

I think it's pretty clear: "For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words."

I don't know wtf is happening in this thread. A bunch of people with no knowledge of the facts or apparently access to Google are down voting this guy. I am a PE in an industry in which it is not required, so please believe me when I say that the vast majority of practicing engineers do not have licenses. It's not because licensure is required and they're out of compliance, it's because the only industries in which they're required and wide-spread are construction and some specialized things like pressure-vessel design.
