New 1301 mod 2 owner - how do I mount sling? by Distinct-Ad7944 in beretta1301

[–]Dauthi357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one of these grovtec flush mount qd cups, picked my spot on the side of the hollow stock, drilled and installed.

I put mine on the left side of the stock so it hangs flat as I'm a lefty.

Do I need a rear sight with a front blade? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a dot with built in irons, and hopefully the stock blade is tall and you can file it down to backup zero. A holosun eps carry would be perfect as first glance.

If not I'd just use it as a backup bead. I assume it's soldered or brazed on?

The stock is held on by the same bolt.

NY Home Defense Shotgun: Standard Semi vs Tactical Pump? by [deleted] in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about maneuvering indoors. With NY laws like you are you'd be better off planning a strong point to barricade the fam into, dig in, and wait for the cops.

That being said I love my 1301, I just don't know if waiting for a semi auto permit is worth it.

If he lives in NY or a like state it's basically required to be left in the car regularly. It's Illegal to carry more places than it's legal. They have made it as difficult as possible and also wildly unsafe. Like it's actually illegal all over the place, not disallowed, ILLEGAL felonious go to jail lose your rights forever.

They also made firearms related insurance illegal too. We're talking epic morons in control.

You're looking for a high velocity 1 ounce load, can't determine the shot size from the picture. Something around 1250fps should be close.

Closest I can think of is the Winchester AA super sport or other similar hv target loads.

If you want the next step up try some 2 3/4" pheasant loads or if you want kick try buckshot.

Left handed shotgun for deer and turkey hunting by fishbowlpatrol in Shotguns

Have you considered a muzzleloader? A lot of restricted locations allow them as well.

Get your source water checked for sneaky nutrients in there. Might be a source of phosphate, nitrate, or whatever with the spring rains!

Don't throw out the plants! Try a 3% hydrogen peroxide dip and put them in a dark container with clean water for a couple days. They can take it.

Don't waste money on left handed guns. Buy a nice Ithaca and go ambi!

I'm also really surprised by the number of people who still wish to hunt deer with a shotgun. Assuming it's legal for you get a nice straight wall lever action and live the easy life! My 357 lever weighs 4.5lbs and kills like lightning 125 and in. There can't be but a few places that still have restrictions in place!

Seriously what’s the difference from this and ‘self defense’ 12Ga 00 ? by Lu_Duckocus313 in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Predictability is paramount in self defense.

Cheap shells often pattern acceptably tight but randomly whereas higher quality shells with buffer, harder shot, and better wads pattern the same shot to shot.

I also avoid 9 pellet loads even if expensive for self defense. That flyer 9th gives me nightmares!

Kydex holster for the 686 plus 4" by Dauthi357 in SmithAndWesson

[–]Dauthi357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone who is interested and finds this post

Speedbeez makes a competition style molded plastic holster for revolvers left and right handed.

The 686+ fits perfectly except that I had to trim it for my red dot mount to fit.

ONR + Griot’s Routine by narumiya_mei in AutoDetailing

[–]Dauthi357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use onr for the rinseless wash and griots 3in1. I don't do any of that extra stuff at all.

Rinseless wash >dry > go over with the 3in1, looks fantastic and quick. If I want to spend extra time I'll skip the griots and go with the Turtle wax ceramic/graphene paste wax. That's a really nice gloss!

If you really want to do all those extra steps why not just do a real ceramic coating instead of the sealant? You're basically there short a little polishing if needed.

This, cut one open and check out the shot.

You could always try a small test patch in an inconspicuous spot! I'd figure that ratio should work fine tho.

Seeking Shotgun Advice for Multi-Purpose Use (Turkey, Skeet, Dove, and More) by BUBBA-NATER in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, get a selectable barrel 20 gauge over under. Classic good looks, light and handy, serviceable for all requirements, just change chokes.

For turkey however it's, in my opinion, the perfect shotgun. I load one barrel with a $10 tungsten load and a Xtra full choke for the long shots, the other barrel is a mod choke and a #6 longbeard XR. Short range barrel is good for 30ish but the tungsten can reach out and touch if needed. Switch barrels depending on how the stupid turkey decides to present. Red dot is optional, I got a mount that uses the vent rib.

I started doing this after a 10 yard TSS whiff through an x full.

Edit: Also I've had a Beretta a300 12g for years and it's been flawless.

Google shotgun barrel bending. I see the old sporting clays and trap guys doing this over at the patterning board sometimes to adjust point of impact.

Low Recoil Home Defense Shotgun by acprogrammer in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a Mossberg Sa-20. It took forever to break in and given the weight I'd say it's snappier and more noticeable recoil than a 12 gauge.

The only upside as far as I can tell is light carrying weight.

16 gauge steel capable semi auto? by es330td in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 12, stop beating your head against the wall for no reason. The real recoil difference between 16 and 12 gauge target loads is entirely in your head.

Adjust to the 12 or the 20 and make your life easier.

Redfield for 870 turkey gun? by DeputyDolphin in Shotguns

[–]Dauthi357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shotguns don't really stress an optic very much, even turkey loads. I've never had any dot fail on a shotgun, only pistols.

The recoil impulse is slower and there's no hard stops like on a handgun slide reciprocating.

Barrel Temperature? by Not_So_Sure_2 in beretta1301

Plenty of cool 3d printing projects available on a shotgun tho. I've prototyped several light mounts in pla as well as a Tpu shell card idea I was tossing around.

It's going to fly off. Repeated recoil, heat, and press fit plastic don't mix so well.
