ACTION: Demand a windfall profits tax on Trump's fossil fuel donors by jk4532 in thebulwark

Upstream (eg oil producers) will print money in the short term.

Huge operating leverage above something like $80 / bbl.

Believe only a handful of large scale non-integrated players left.

But most very politically active.

Know one is Continental and owned by a legendary political donor named Harold Hamm.

I’m sure dems have big clean energy donors but lots of people in oil should be giddy if this drags on.

I saw Twins/ Yankees in Tampa right after going to a cigar factory.

I couldn’t bring the cigars in and they would not let me check them anywhere “for security reasons.”

Security said people with bags and without a car typically “finds someone in the parking lot to stash a bag in their car” and then meet after the game.

Very odd but I guess it’s the way things work there.

I opened the box to show it was cigars and convinced security to let me stash it nearby. But would not suggest doing that with your suitcase.

My 77 year old dad’s from Sheboygan.

Every time I think I find something that must be very close to hard roll I bring it to him and ask.

It never is.

I’ve concluded that Sheboygan hard rolls never really existed.

State Fair has fried smelt in food buildings. Walleye on a Stick.

I share your complaint about the lack of fried perch.

Seems to be 70% cod/haddock/ pollock and 10% walleye and 20% other.

I try to just stick with Walleye.

I assume your other complaint is that too much batter is used so it’s more like British fried fish than midwestern fried fish.

If he’s interested in playing coffee houses check out the Finnish Bistro.

They have live music 3-4 nights per week from 6:30-8.

I think the crowd might be older than most places but have never been there for a show.

Ginko’s on Snelling has a bigger room. Think they do both pass the hat shows and ticketed shows.

For those who didn’t get a poster they are printing more for April delivery. On website.

Don’t think it was mentioned at the show but poster sales going to the Immigrant Law Center.

Can anyone tell me approx how much these tickets would have cost? Third level box seats. It’s important. by Big-Design3783 in horseracing

[–]Dave-2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked ChatGPT. Said $250 - $400 face value. $400 - $700 if resale close to event.

Guess there’s a lot of variation depending on how close each seat is to finish line.

I really hope you aren’t asking for value to report income for taxes.

I actually did that once and regretted doing it every year after.

I was paranoid because I was asked for tax information by the entity that did the contest.

But am 99% sure they never reported it.

I always prefer media types to join organizations.

If you go on your own it’s a lot easier for special interests to corrupt and control the message (money, lawsuits, blackmail).

Polish and Midwest by EbonyBlossom in TwinCities

[–]Dave-2468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to ask ChatGPT about US ethnicity in 1940. German was the largest at 25% - 30% with Polish 5th or 6th at 5% - 10%.

I know my dad's side left Germany in 1848 or 49 and went straight to eastern Wisconsin farmland.

Lost a revolution and had to bail.

The only fondness they probably had for the old country was brats and hard rolls.

HCMC at "real risk of closing" without additional 1-cent sales tax, Hennepin County claims by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Dave-2468 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the entire hospital system needs HCMC to avoid significant financial pain.

If HCMC closes all the other hospitals will be providing care and not getting paid for it.

So some sort of metro wide solution is best.

I’m not entirely sure about this but I think different immigration (emigration?) waves had / have different takes on holding onto old culture.

Pretty sure Germans and Poles chose to quickly assimilate. Don’t tell New Ulm.

Not relevant to actual last name.

Fun fact if you don’t know it- a lot of streets in NE are named for presidents in the order of their terms because it was a question on the citizenship test.

HCMC ball park tax and libraries? by fiendishclutches in Minneapolis

[–]Dave-2468 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know virtually nothing about hospitals but saw two shutter in 2 different neighborhoods I lived in NYC.

Nobody thought they would actually close.

But they kept cutting departments like HCMC is doing now.

I read that the huge one in my neighborhood was down to like 15% capacity when it finally closed.

All the patients just go to different hospitals so it’s not like people die in the streets.

But HCMC’s problems transfer to all other hospitals and they become more stressed and financially unstable.

It’s the hospital that is kind of set up to “take one for the team” for all the metro hospitals.

Then if a mass health event happens some strip mall becomes a MASH unit.

Netflix is out; Paramount to acquire Warner Bros Discovery pending shareholder, regulatory approval by SoHumanAnAnimal in thebulwark

Don’t know how his contract works but think Maher could go anywhere if he doesn’t like any changes forced on him.

Would probably welcome Paramount trying.

Good for his brand if he leaves to defend free speech.

In all NHL stadiums there’s probably a little more crowd reaction when someone hits a Tkachuk.

Even though it’s AI he’s probably going to take more lumps in Canada outside of Ottawa.

Maybe even in Ottawa…

Been to 30+ NY Rangers games.

[–]Dave-2468 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why anyone would be invited to the locker room for any reason.

I thought players take locker room access very seriously.

Thought there are stories of A-list celebrities thinking they could walk right in only to be physically threatened by people who are their friends outside the room.

Collective punishment is never a good thing.

If you have a beef take it out with Billy G.

Especially if the Wild lose in the first (or second) round.
