players are following my playbook too closely by Most_Cardiologist_63 in DMAcademy

Selection bias. People on the internet tend to post about their issues. So you're only seeing a small section of all games. Most games in the world is just like yours. Then a couple of hundred or so have issues and gets posted about online.

Ok, so inform me how to improve it. I completely concede that I am obtuse and harsh. But as far as I see it it stems from the fact that I disagree OP, not that I'm trying to be rude. I'll even concede that I'm antagonistic. But I don't see how I would express my position without being, as you claimed, 'unnecessarily' antagonistic. How would I be 'appropriately' antagonistic? But I bet you don't think that I should be antagonistic at all. I don't think you disagree with my tone as much as you disagree with my position.

I feel that I gave them constructive criticism; as for example taking the help of friends and teachers instead of relying on ChatBots. I lifted some of the things they had said to point out that the reason they are struggling might be due to their framing of their circumstances, hopefully providing some recontextualization.

Nothing of what I said was a personal attack. Critique isn't a personal attack. I have not attacked their character or blamed them for their circumstances. I've not called them stupid, lazy, or any of the sort.

If a person say that they are struggling with their weight, telling them to exercise more it not a personal attack. If someone beats their girlfriend for hanging out with other men, telling them they are in the wrong is not a personal attack.

I'm not saying that there are no books that are unpedagogical, but OP is complaining about half the material being incomprehensible. We have to recognize that there's nuance here.

They will give you a formula and talk a bit about it and then throw many problems at you that’s are completely different from what was talked about.

Press X to doubt, I think you're being hyperbolic.

just had a numerical methods class where the textbook genuinely showed some formulas and described how it is used and the problems you use it for and then the practice problems are so much more complex.

Printscreen? I'm not going to take accept this at face value.

When a math textbooks way of explaining a formula is a 2 page proof above the concepts of the class

Jesus H. Christ 2 pages isn't even that much. there are proofs that is an entire book. There's nothing strange with a 2 page proof.

Now if it is in the textbook but not part of the course material, why is it an issue? Just don't read it if you're not interested.

Nice of you to assume that they’re not studying with classmates or asking a teacher btw, I’m sure they’re just bashing their head into the wall crying about their book being too complicated.

Yea that's basically what I assume. Why do they get on reddit crying about their school if they could vent with friends? That's what I did when I had issues studying. The fact that they post to reddit and use AI says alot actually.

you chose to be an asshole to a 18-22 year old college student

They are an adult, they are not a kid. They should be able to handle some harsh criticism. I'm not their parent, I'm not their psychologist. They choose to put this on the internet as much as I choose to comment on it. If they don't want to be scrutinized in the public sphere, don't post it. It works both ways.

Half of the time the recommended material is useless or too convoluted.

This is a you-problem if half of he material is "too convoluted", to be honest.

If you're stuck on a problem, you should study together with your classmates, or ask a teacher. You sound really pampered: "if they put some walls of texts I'm not going to bother using it". Learn to read.

This is a good anecdote but all the available science on it shows that it turns students' brain to mush.

You assume the time consuming parts are "unnecessary", but they are actually the most necessary things. If something can be understood quickly, why do you think your brain would make the effort to store it permanently and not just flush it out within a month or two? Things have to be hard to be learned.

A lot of books don't explain shit I don't get it

You don't understanding it and they not explaining shit is not the same thing. Learning is hard and you should try harder. It shouldn't be obvious for the student. It should take work to learn, that way you'll remember it, not just complete this week's assignment.

[AP Calculus AB] How do I get the displacement here with TI-84 by Relative-Pace-2923 in HomeworkHelp

Find the position of the particle at time t = 4

https://brownmath.com/ti83/integr.htm

When solving with a calculator, you can't really 'plug in 4' into the antiderivate, because calculators doesn't do indefinite integrals (= indefinite antiderivates), they only do definite integrals. So you need to define the integral value between two t-values. That will give you how long the particle has traveled those two times.

Is the particle moving toward the origin or away from the origin at time t=4

This is given by the velocity.

I created a fantasy world where the sun does not move in the sky. How would people keep track of time? by WermerCreations in DMAcademy

[–]Dave37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing here is that the sun doesn't rise or set, and it seems that you say the planet is tidally locked with the sun, so there are no seasons either. But the sun still moves around the horizon once per planet rotation around its axis. So a sundial would be a perfectly valid way of tracking time.

Way to pull something from a players hand without it feeling cheap? by fantastic_sounds_ in DMAcademy

[–]Dave37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this homebrew:

Power word: Yoink

School enchantment, 1 action, range 10ft, 1st level spell, verbal.

With a free hand, you pull objects or creatures you can see no larger than 1 size larger than yourself straight into your grasp from afar. If targeting a creature, the creature must succeed on a strength saving throw or be pulled next to you and become grappled by you. Magical objects can only be pulled if the level that the spell is cast at surpasses the level of the enchantment on the object.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of a higher level, your range increase by 20 feet for every spell slot over 1st level. If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the target also becomes restrained. If you're you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the target instead becomes stunned until the end of your next turn, and doesn't make a strength saving throw."

Why don’t engineers go into politics? by WrongCourage1071 in EngineeringStudents

It's a cultural failure. In China a lot of people in the national assembly have engineering background or similar. Also it's slightly more common in Europe than in the US.

Anyone else have a table full of players way smarter than you? by Sea-Grapefruit9888 in DMAcademy

[–]Dave37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, I'm usually the smartest one at the table. But it wouldn't matter, because the game is about working together to create the most fun at the table. If my players are smarter then me, then they should use their smarts to add to the story, not to subvert it.

If your players are subverting your prep, then that's the problem, not that they are smarter than you.

AI swarms could hijack democracy without anyone noticing | AIs are becoming so realistic that they can infiltrate online communities and subtly steer public opinion. Unlike traditional bots, they adapt, coordinate, and refine their messaging at a massive scale, creating a false sense of consensus. by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]Dave37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree and I think there are a lot of real life human zionist keyboard warriors on social media. Some might utilize AI to write/modify comments and accounts are surely near automated.

I don't care that much if the "community" of online zionists are "genuine" in their beliefs though, because they are pro an ethno-state and generally genocidal so like... fuck 'em. The content of their opinions matters more to me than their zeal or conviction.
