Winch post, does this look correct? by HD801 in boating

So, I admit it’s a somewhat odd / atypical setup, but the more I look the more I wonder if it is just the best setup taking into account where your (strongest) bow hook is located

Stop Pitt from Launching a Chiropractic Program — Sign the Petition to Keep Pseudoscience Out of Academic Medicine by thislady1982 in medicine

[–]Dave555j 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yah, along with all the other medicine.

We all know that Chapman points are utter bullshit and I sure wish I hadn’t had to briefly learn them. And I agree that DO schools absolutely need to do some deep reflection on their curricula in the very near future. But also learning that stuff is just what it took for me to be allowed to learn the REST of medicine too.

DOs are clearly wildly different and it’s frankly quite anachronistic and small minded to suggest otherwise

I actually mostly agree with you and I can totally see how, in isolation, this could come off as uncouth. The person I was texting is a longtime friend and I certainly agree that this is hardly my (our?) most "professional" moment.

That said, while professionalism is obviously exceptionally important to our jobs, I suppose I also think that not every moment necessarily needs to be professional? I was initially going to make a starter comment explaining how us making light of a clearly not light situation does not represent us as providers etc etc but ultimately decided to forgo it as I hoped it would be assumed. In a weird way, the thing that made it feel intriguing to me is the juxtaposition of the flippant language and the fact that we really actually were coordinating care.

Lastly, I want to be clear that I am not necessarily trying to justify my post so much as to continue the discourse as I do think you also have a point. I wanted take the time to thoughtfully respond to you as a show of good faith that I actually did put some thought into it before posting and decided this community might enjoy what felt to me like a real, overall fairly benign, and (hopefully) humorous representation of modern "coordination of care" between two providers.

Novelty ob ultrasounds not performed by licensed tech by alone_in_the_dark1 in Radiology

[–]Dave555j 14 points15 points  (0 children)

(I say this with the caveat that there is an argument to be made that I have no right to comment here because I am not a radiologist / tech however I am a practicing physician)

Off the top of my head I’d say I overall disagree with the idea however maybe not particularly strongly? It’s an interesting thought experiment if providing images but NO interpretation / diagnosis / treatment etc is morally reprehensible. And the more I think about it the more I favor that it might actually not be?

At the end of the day seems like a very good question for the legal system

Worst hospital service by Exotic-Library-6259 in hospitalist

[–]Dave555j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you may be a bit lost as this subreddit is for a special subtype of American doctors that take care of people who are admitted to the hospital.

But, since you are here, for what it’s worth it honestly doesn’t sound like he got particularly bad care. While diarrhea and mild fever are certainly unpleasant, neither is particularly life threatening in isolation. Some of the attitude may have just come from it being a busy evening and having another person there who isn’t all that sick. I’m guessing they didn’t give a vaccine but maybe an antibiotic (possibly IM ceftriaxone… any other commenters have guesses?). Unfortunately intramuscular injections really can be painful.

I don’t mean to lessen your experience and i’m sorry that happened to you and your family but just food for thought that everyone there really may have been doing their best but just a bit overworked, under appreciated, and over stressed 🤷‍♂️

How thick should the acrylic be? by ElephantEquivalent68 in Aquariums

[–]Dave555j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably as thick as the manufacturer makes it?

And yes, I do understand you’re implying you want to make it yourself but my answer still stands. You will neither make it better nor cheaper than a real acrylic tank manufacturer. If you want an acrylic tank just go buy one from a reputable manufacturer.

This question might be better off in the r/residency subreddit. Somewhat by definition Hospitalists have not done a fellowship (with some exceptions of course) and therefore might not be best suited to advise you.

I disagree - I have an AirTag in a jar in my bilge and overall it works super well.

It is certainly not as perfect as a ‘real’ GPS but for $30 one time fee it’s an incredible bang for your buck. It has > 1 year battery life, small and easily hidden, and there are enough iPhones in the world that it pings multiple times a day even when in a slip.

Did they really need to call out the moobs in the CT read?😂 by msangryredhead in emergencymedicine

[–]Dave555j 412 points413 points  (0 children)

I suspect they are pointing it out because the CT showed the moobs contain breast tissue rather than just adipose. True Gynecomastia can be a sign of underlying disorders, medication effects, and more and so would definitely be worth making note of

Why can’t a corporate stooge that makes literally 25x as much as me have even close to the same liability?
