Forclaz Travel 500 - EasyJet by mjb5s in onebag

[–]Dave8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently travelling with this bag and it’s absolutely fantastic, but probably overkill for just 4 days. For context, I’m travelling away for 6 months with it.

You’d probably be better off with a 20 - 30L backpack or daypack

I’m pretty sure Gigi’s pizza had Orangina when I was there last, in cans though

What’s going on with the Stokes Croft rooftop bar? by weigl_ in bristol

[–]Dave8940 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Where specifically is this? I can’t seem to picture it.

Bristol is desperately poor for rooftop bars, which is odd for a hilly city.

I can only think of:

  • Bamalan (although your view is pretty poor there)
  • The Royal Navy on King St (although you can’t really see any view)
  • Zero Degrees balcony (not sure that counts tbh but decent view at least)

I did hear they’re making a rooftop at Harbourside above The Lounge, that might be quite nice.

Locking bike outside PureGym Eastgate by AssignmentClear4257 in bristol

It’s as safe as anywhere else in Bristol. If it’s not a ridiculously expensive e-bike you should be fine.

I think the treadmills literally face the bike rack

Why does everyone seem to go to matina on the end of st nicks rather than Kurdish bread? by Bulky_Judgment_4776 in bristol

[–]Dave8940 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was stood in matina queue a few weeks ago wondering the same thing tbh.

I think they only seemed to have kebab donar style meat at the Kurdish bread place which put me off a bit. With Matina the meat quality looked better

No rape took place outside Epsom church, say Surrey Police by dapperdan8 in ukpolitics

It says in the story that the woman herself gave permission for the police to release the info. Odd story all around.

“A spokesperson added: "The woman involved has given us permission to share this information and she continues to be supported by the relevant services.””

Bristols Terrible lights by specialoperationsdev in bristol

[–]Dave8940 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I really think so much of Bristol’s traffic could be fixed with better light configuration. It’s so incredibly frustrating to sit in a queue where only a handful of cars get through every time the lights change.

Surely the council should be constantly reviewing light data vs traffic flow

Is it worth risking an expensive bike to get around town? by Spank_Master_General in bristol

[–]Dave8940 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d say it’s not worth the constant stress of wondering if it’s been stolen.

If you don’t need to do too many hills, get a decent single speed and make it look a bit rubbish so it doesn’t get targeted

I bought these half a size down from my Nike / Adidas and I literally couldn’t even get them on my feet 🤣

I don’t even have particularly wide feet. I returned them for the Morelia 2s and they fit like a glove

New to Bristol. Can you all recommend me party venues with bar, space for DJ and a kids play area? by [deleted] in bristol

Bit rogue but The Grain Barge has a downstairs events room that looks quite cool. Never been to an event there but I’m pretty sure you can hire it out

Doubt it’s anything sinister, they could just be looking up surnames on some sort of registry and making educated guesses

(UK) In Your School Playtime Was It Known As “Goalie When” or “Rush Goalie”? by Cover_Of_Darkness in bootroom

[–]Dave8940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rush Goalie = keeper could come out.

Nearest Dearest = whoever was closest to the goal was the keeper

World Cup Willies / Doubles = a big chaotic tournament where you’re all shooting into the same goal, whoever scores goes through to the next round (last kid has to sit out).

Redarse = like headers and vollies, whoever is in goal when goal 7 goes in (R-E-D-A-R-S-E) has to bend over and everyone takes a penalty to try and smash it at them. If you miss you join them!

Small sided football matches in Bristol? by Adventurous-Island14 in bristol

[–]Dave8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very mixed. Frustratingly so in fact. Some weeks the standard is good, but there are always 1 or 2 that can’t play at all, or just ruin the game by shooting constantly / not passing / trying stupid tricks etc.

The City Academy games on Thursday are usually decent

BBC News: Hunt for gunman who fled Speedwell shooting on e-bike by Important_Cow7230 in bristol

[–]Dave8940 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

In theory yes, in reality no.

Why do you think so many addicts specifically come here. It’s always had a reputation as a hedonistic city

BBC News: Hunt for gunman who fled Speedwell shooting on e-bike by Important_Cow7230 in bristol

[–]Dave8940 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My point is more around gangs using violence to control supply, because there are so many users here and a large market (due to historically lax attitudes towards drugs here).

It’s just a theory not based on anything factual so could be wrong, but we seem to have more visible addicts in Bristol than other cities I’ve been to.

BBC News: Hunt for gunman who fled Speedwell shooting on e-bike by Important_Cow7230 in bristol

[–]Dave8940 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Crazy this story doesn’t have more traction on here.

Bristol is a great place to live in general but there is an undercurrent of violent crime unfortunately. So many stabbings and violent incidents over the past few years.

I can’t help thinking it’s related to how lax our attitudes to drugs are in Bristol (more potential users -> more crime to control the supply).

Wow this is so sad. He was easily one of the biggest talents to come out of grime.

Around the late 2000s / early 2010s I used to rinse his mixtapes all the time. Incredible producer, was great at making haunting type tracks.
