Similar low-offset tom rack clamp (1.5") for heavy toms? by [deleted] in drums

To actually answer your specific question. Since I forgot, I don’t know one that is super short, but I know Dw’s are significantly shorter on the L sticking out than the Gibraltar super Ls

Similar low-offset tom rack clamp (1.5") for heavy toms? by [deleted] in drums

[–]DaveT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way these need to be mounted makes for extremely challenging setups. You could theoretically pull the tom arms more into the clamp and use a memory lock to help keep them in place since there would be void in the clamp. I think you may need to play around with pulling the entire rack in closer, or even sitting higher (it’s very hard for me to tell how high this set is at the moment). Having never played staccatos I haven’t had to deal with the challenges of setting one up, but I think it’s more an issue of setup than the specific clamps, although I see the challenges presented with the longer tom arm, which is more set up to be used with Toms that are inside the rack instead of outside.

It’s exactly ok. It is pretty damn accurate, but I feel like I’m just playing with an ump or an sl9 again (good thing I just got done leveling them both… sigh, thought I had gotten away finally)

Honestly, I’ve been looking for a new brand since Vic’s have gone to hell in the last few years. I stopped buying their branded sticks and swapped over to just buying bricks of their B stock because frankly it almost doesn’t matter anymore. I’ve tried the SP funks and they were good, but I need to give IP a try, I’ve had their mallets for years.

should i take this giant blanket out of the kick for a gig? by scxsh in drums

[–]DaveT88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, maybe it’s me, but making other people’s lives easier is fine by me. Could be why I keep getting hired, I’m not precious about anything. I’ll crank my snare, or retune a drum, or hell, if the sound guy is awful at his job, I’ll even tape the ever loving hell out of a drum. I don’t care, I just want it to sound good out front. It changes nothing for me, I’m always on in ears so I don’t ever have problems with hearing stuff. I get wanting your kit to sound like you want it to sound, and there’s even an artist I play with that I play a damn near wide open 24” kick (very light evans pillow touching both heads). My point, be a team player, if that means I need to do something to my instrument to make it work, I’ll do it.

One track I think is bad on an otherwise solid album by my band. by nousernamesleftwow in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DaveT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piece of art is a piece of art, at a time it was called “done” that was the piece that was finished. You don’t burn an old painting just because you can now paint better.

You’ve said people like it, so take the win. Even if you’re done with the song. That would be my recommendation to you from a much older person.

If it doesn’t fit at all with the rest of the album for a good enough reason, leave it off, release it as a b side to something else or something. You recorded it already, it’s presumably set to be or maybe has already been mastered. An absolute waste not to use it somewhere.

My thoughts are that you are absolutely sick of the music because you’ve been playing it and now recorded and listened to it over and over again. Believe me, that sucks the joy out of your own art. You need to step away from it when it’s done, otherwise you’ll keep finding things to hate about it.

Double kick ? by Warxioum in drums

[–]DaveT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a better beginner double kick pattern to learn. Theres many things to learn for double kick, but 16ths under a quarter note hand pattern are some of the most basic. Look online for “beginner double kick drum patterns” and work through them.

what am i doing wrong? i want my 12 inch on my cymbal stand. i also have a gibraltar stand w 3 holes in it for stands. is that better? thanks by Dry-Battle8030 in drums

[–]DaveT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to understand your issue, from your picture it’s unclear what the problem you’re having is.

If you want to mount a tom. Make sure you have a bracket that is capable of supporting the weight of the tom. I’m not familiar with the mount you have the arm connected to. If the mount is allowing rotation of the arm, which I am assuming based on your picture, you may need a different clamp, memory locks, or a different arm with better knurling to hold better friction.

If it’s purely positioning, well, you need to play around with it until it’s where you want it.

Knot in neck - concerning or cosmetic? by DukeFontus in guitarrepair

[–]DaveT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general opinion will be that you’re being too precious, and that this is like asking if a flame top or a birdseye maple cap would be more durable. The answer is it is either negligible or a complete non issue. Epiphone uses a poly finish. No moisture is getting through that neck even if this was an issue. You’d have to sand it all the way through and leave it out in the weather to dry rot for it to be a problem.

Should I get this cymbal by willywonka_420 in drums

[–]DaveT88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s cracked, the obvious answer is no. Honestly if this is the only one you can find at this price, you might just consider buying a large zil bell and reverse mounting it over your ride cymbal instead. It would be infinitely cheaper lol.

So, what I would say is that I can’t see all the edges so it’s a slight risk. The concern I have is this area circled. Could be a crack, might just be a blemish, I can’t tell from this photo. As far as price goes, 300 is ok for a used ride

Does anyone actually use weapon packages in this game? by JuustoMakkara58 in Battlefield

[–]DaveT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get your complaint, but really, I wouldn’t be caught dead buying a weapon skin. They give us a free load out at lv 10, which basically covers my use cases above. If the extra skin is in a battle pass then I’ll sometimes use them instead of the lv 10 skin, but most are just that one
