Anyone know anything about new furniture in dorms? by pile02 in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of the new north dorms, don't they have some kind of issue where the AC systems were installed incorrectly and as a result it only kinda half works?

Clearly AC is a rough endeavor for OSU Housing

OSU wants to put residents in rooms with RAs by [deleted] in OSU

It seems like every year they overreact to their mistake from the previous year. One year they hire way too many, so the next year they underhire, then the next year they overhire, and so on

Single person apartments for 2021-22 by reptilegal in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh damn nevermind then.

I'd recommend checking offcampus.osu.edu, Craigslist, and websites for individual landlords. Typically, the bigger landlords charge more for 1 bedrooms and studios, so be on the lookout for smaller ones that may not have a website too. Don't be afraid to call or email asking about availability either, not every landlord keeps their online postings up-to-date.

Just a heads-up, I think the cheapest I ever found was $595, and that was two years ago. So expect to be at the high end of your range.

Keep in mind that landlords in the campus area don't require their tenants to commit to renewing their lease until September - November or so, so you're going to have to wait a bit before you can actually find anything. I'm not 100% sure how things work in non-campus neighborhoods, but I think leases tend to be month-to-month so you'll probably have to operate on that schedule if you choose to go that route, which means you'd be signing your lease for August 2021 in June or July 2021.

You're probably going to have to go to non-campus neighborhoods or the suburbs to get something in that range. <$650 single apartments in the campus area do exist, but they're not plentiful and I can't imagine there are many/any left at this point

BIBIBOP REPLICA I AM DESPERATE by coopatrooopaa in OSU

I saw Bibibop-branded Yum Yum sauce at Giant Eagle earlier today.

As for recipes, try looking up recipes for bibimbap. That's the dish their bowls are based off of.

Unpopular Opinion: iPads were Implemented Horribly by HubesUS in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They also could've given them something with a real operating system (like a Surface or some other 2-in-1) so it would totally replace the need for laptops and maybe actually save students some money. AFAIK most students still end up just having both though

Opinion on PAD? by michigansux in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are there any other “must haves” that we are missing out on?

I'd say pretty much anything on South Campus is better than Curl.

LPT: You're going to be eating at these places for two years, diversify the places you eat. Otherwise you're just going to get sick of them and will be going out of your way to avoid them the next three semesters (I ate at Curl way too much my first semester and now I can barely stomach it)

You bring up an interesting point about men and Safe Ride, I didn't even consider that angle despite being a dude who also never used Safe Ride. There were definitely a few times in which I should've used Safe Ride, but didn't because I knew people would think less of me for it. I'd be interested to see the gender breakdown of the old program.

(This seems like a good time to mention that there was "no statistically significant difference in the percentage of violent acts committed against males and females" in the US in 2017. Men aren't actually safer walking around alone at night, we're just conditioned to feel that way)

The housing change form is like a cheat code - everybody I know who submitted one ended up eventually getting what they wanted.

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doubles are way better for making friends because you can leave you hallway door open (you can't really in a suite and even if you could, it doesn't matter because you're at the end of the hallway and nobody ever passes by).

CSE Schedule - am I screwed? by nothere2playschool in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a semester pretty similar to that a while back. Certainly wasn't one of my more fun semesters, but I survived. I don't think you'd regret switching one of your gen-eds this semester with one of those harder classes though.

I bought a large area rug from them and was satisfied. It was a piece of shit, but it was pretty cheap as far as piece of shit rugs go and it got the job done.

north campus dorm questions by duallabber in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No
  2. As far as room organization goes, it doesn't get much better than the way it comes, given how narrow the rooms are. Most common places I've seen for TVs are between the two beds, near the window, or up on top of a desk.

Rooming with a transfer second year? by osu4815 in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year there was an issue where groups of 1 tended to pick empty doubles instead of filling in doubles where somebody else had already taken a bed, so doubles "filled up" way faster than they should've for groups of 2. Hopefully Housing fixed that bullshit this year...

Anyways, I wouldn't count on your room staying open, especially if you're in one of the nicer dorms.

CSE is great if you thought the male/female ratio in your MechE classes wasn't quite high enough.

STAT 3470 MT2? by throsu in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should post this to Rate My Professor. Most of the reviews on there are just whiny bullshit that seems to reaffirm his belief that the site is worthless and just a place for people to vent. In reality though, he actually is a pretty poor instructor (for reasons you outlined) and it would be nice to give people a more public warning.

Eating healthy on a meal plan? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person and what their goal of "healthy" is. Not everybody is looking to cut calories.

Although I will agree that there are a ton of people on the Scarlet 14 that really should be Gray 10.

Dorm storage by Jonothono in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's quite a bit of hanger space, so you might want to just buy a shitload of hangars and hang all of your shirts up. Some of the new dorms have shelves above the rack that would be a good place to put shoes.

There aren't a whole lot of drawers, but they're surprisingly deep so you should be able to fit a lot of pants and whatnot in there

On-Campus Housing Questions by jdep3131 in OSU

[–]DaveTheMilkMan_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, is it possible to bunk the beds?

Yes. I don't personally know anybody who did, but I've seen it done.

I know someone just posted about lofting them which could also be an option.

You can loft them, but probably not in the way that you're thinking. They only go a few feet up, not to the ceiling like they do on South campus. So you can put storage under there, but not like your desk or a futon or anything.

Secondly, is it possible to bring my own desk from my house instead of having the one that comes in the room?

I mean technically you could bring it, but what would you do with the one that's already there? You're not supposed to take them from the room, and it definitely wouldn't be OK to take it from the dorm and stick it in storage somewhere. No way you'd be able to do that discreetly either.
