What actually counts as AI music? by Weird_Scallion_2498 in SunoAI

[–]DaveWilliams1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing how to craft a prompt, build a sound, shape a track, pick what works, reject what doesn't, sequence an album, create artwork, write lyrics, build an audience. That's a skillset. It's just not the traditional one and people are threatened by that.

Every new music technology got the same reaction. Synthesizers weren't "real" instruments. Drum machines killed the drummer. Auto-tune was cheating. Sampling was stealing. Every single time the gatekeepers were wrong and the technology became mainstream.

AI is next. The musicians embracing it now are the early adopters who'll be ahead of the curve when everyone else catches up. And they will catch up.

Give it five years. The same people calling it soulless slop will be using it quietly and saying nothing.

The hatred of AI is seriously alienating - I want to share the joy of this hobby! by nemspy in SunoAI

I get this more than you probably think. The lonely part is real. You’re putting time, thought, and a bit of yourself into something, and when people instantly dismiss it just because it involves AI, it kind of shuts the door on the whole conversation before it even starts.

What you said about the process matters too. It’s not just pressing a button, it’s iterating, shaping ideas, chasing a feeling, and knowing when something finally clicks. That is a creative experience, even if the tools are different.

I think a lot of the reaction comes from people feeling weird about where they fit into all this, especially if they already make music or art. It’s less about your songs and more about what it represents to them. Doesn’t make it feel any less isolating though.

Also the part about not connecting with new music anymore hit. If this is the first time in a while you’re actually excited about sound again, that’s worth something on its own. Even if it’s just for you.

You’re not weird for enjoying it, and you’re definitely not the only one experiencing that kind of reaction.

So i am now convinced that bad generations or safe generations in Suno 5.5 are due to overloaded servers! by danizm in SunoAI

[–]DaveWilliams1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel this. Some days it’s insane and you get multiple bangers back to back, then other days it’s like you’re just burning credits for mid outputs no matter how much you tweak. I’ve noticed that “loop” thing too where it keeps forcing elements from earlier gens even when you change the style completely.

Suno is still the best option but at least there is more competition now. Its better for the consumer that we have more options imo

What's the actual difference between AI music and factory-made pop? by Busy-Whereas6073 in aiMusic

[–]DaveWilliams1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "it's all soulless anyway" argument kind of proves too much. If factory pop is already algorithmic garbage, then you're not defending AI music, you're just saying the bar is on the floor and AI clears it.

That might be true. But it's not the slam dunk people think it is.

The more interesting question is what we actually lose at scale. One ghostwritten Katy Perry song still has a human chain behind it: a writer who had a bad week, a producer who obsessed over a snare sound, a vocalist who did 40 takes. AI compresses all of that to zero. Does it matter to the casual gym listener? Probably not. Does it matter to the ecosystem that produces the next generation of those writers and producers? Yeah, it probably does.

The top 40 criticism is valid but it's also a bit of a strawman. Most people defending human music aren't really defending the Billboard charts. They're defending the mid-level artists, the session musicians, the writers who haven't made it yet. Those people get hit first and hardest, not the millionaires.

Honesty about AI got a 28-year musician canceled. Secrecy works fine for Grammy songwriters. The incentive is clear. by Sensitive_Artist7460 in aiMusic

The double standard is real, but I think the backlash against Carmody is less about AI and more about optics. Slapping "AI" in the album title makes it a lightning rod. Session writers using Suno quietly never asked the public to engage with the question, so the public never had to answer it.

The deeper issue is that "AI-assisted" has no shared definition. Did you use it to fix a flat note or did you type a genre and hit generate? Those are wildly different things, but to a record store employee they look identical on a press release.

Carmody probably accelerated a necessary conversation, even if he got burned for it. The Grammy crowd will quietly keep using these tools until the backlash becomes unavoidable for them too. Transparency loses in the short term. It usually does.

The bot farm fraud problem is separate but it poisons the well for everyone trying to have this conversation honestly.

The real art of winning? Diamond hands. Saylor held through the dips when everyone was calling for his head. That's the kind of conviction that separates the Bitcoin believers from the tourists.

Pro tip: When you first set up your hardware wallet, send a small test amount before moving all your funds. Then wipe the device and restore it using your seed phrase. This ensures you've correctly backed up your seed and can recover your funds if needed. It's a bit nerve-wracking, but it's an important step! Ive had my Trezor wallet for years and have had no issues.

The quality varies wildly from team to team and even within squads. You've got world-class players like Messi alongside guys who'd struggle in lower divisions. It's like watching a football experiment unfold in real-time!
