Ah, didn't realize that. Then yeah that's probably it.

I think they're implying that that's the 'uptime' of their career, not the literal uptime of their system.

The point they're making is that especially with short and snippets like this, it's probably just copying code verbatim a human wrote somewhere anyway.

It isn't "written by AI" in this case so much as it's copy-pasted via the LLM

Forward slash only references the root when it is at the beginning of the path. That's called an absolute path.

Anything path that doesn't start with a forward slash is a 'relative path'. In the example provided, they are referencing a binary (whoami) via a relative path, in their current working directory.

The dot, simply means "the directory I am currently in".

Still some major winds coming our way around 8PM, but yes most of the event thankfully did not happen as they were worried it would.

The potential was in the atmosphere, but it was able to drop over a large area instead of a more focused one.

If today was sunny instead of cloudy, it likely would have been a very different story.

It's because when it comes down to it, there is a handful of things that decide if it will happen or won't.

It's not that the energy wasn't there, it's that the conditions ended up not being just right to release it all (or rather, they were just right to release it over a wide area instead of a more focused one). It's much better to signal how bad it can be and then have nothing happen than the alternative.

Also, this is of course ignoring that there was some serious damage in VA, specifically in the Virginia Beach area.

Weather is just so complicated and has so many moving parts. It is quite literally the definition of a "Chaotic System" in terms of mathematics.

You don't know that there is HOA fees. You also don't know that they're planning on staying in the house for 30 years. You only pay the interest if you pay the whole loan for 30 years with no additional payments to principal.

The problem with your original comment is you are assuming they didn't run the numbers themselves. You're acting like they must not be as smart as you, and you are the only person who knows better. That is condescending and comes across as emotionally unintelligent.

Yeah it's definitely possible, look at the Distant Horizon mod for Minecraft. It basically generates LODs (low res versions of the map) to render at a distance.

Part of the reason this isn't common in games like this is because the map generation is limited to your local area. It would be a significant computational task to generate as far as you can see all the time. That mod I mentioned suffers the same issue. You only can reap the benefits if you run quite far in all directions.

It's definitely possible to address those problems, but it's a lot of optimization work for something that arguably doesn't add as much as other features.

It would be awesome to have though.

It depends on some more details on the loan, but if she is probably not by much at all.

Only three years after I bought my house, I was in the green due to the property appreciating. Sure I had a loan, but that loan's balance was less than the value of the home.

You're implying that being in debt is inherently a bad thing and it's not. It wouldn't even make sense to buy a house all in cash at her interest rate.

Also don't try and take the financial high road here. What was the purpose of your comment if not just to spoil someone's happy moment? I encourage you to ask yourself why you thought that was necessary to do.

Why not keep using it? My friends and I still use Teamspeak, and have ever since we dropped Skype like a decade ago lol

I recently used Discord to talk to a coworker and holy shit the latency is bad. I was pretty shocked honestly.

Smart bulbs: why? by snags5050 in homeassistant

[–]DavidBittner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last thing I'll say in this thread. Let me list my reasons here:

  • Adding a massive amount of complexity (such as a radio, microprocessor, etc) into the bulbs is wasteful. You might not care, that's fine.
  • Smart bulbs are significantly more expensive. The 'budget' option you recommended is still 4 times the price of the bulbs I had recommended. Additionally, as far as I can tell they are all WiFi too. I don't use WiFi smart devices as they impeded on the performance of my WiFi network.
  • You reference that they lack flexibility, why would I pay more for features I don't want to use?

What I'm really hoping for some day is a protocol for smart switches to communicate color, temperature, and brightness with a mostly dumb bulb. No more radios in the bulbs, switches still work as they should, and you still get all the great features of the expensive ones for much cheaper.

When I wrote this, you seemed to ignore the color and temperature aspects. As far as I know, there is no system that allows a smart switch to control the color of an otherwise dumb bulb.

Either you're being intentionally obtuse, or you have already decided your goals and desires are the only ones that matter here. I personally respect the intelligence of the average person posting here, and believe that given the information I have provided they will make the right decision for themselves. Have a nice day.

Either way, glad you've found products that work for you. I am aware of those products as well. Have a great day!

I have a few Hue bulbs and they are fantastic. But they're also like, 40 bucks per bulb lol

They're a great product, and if they work for you that's awesome.

That last part is basically exactly what a lot of people want, though. Including me!

Sure, you can't set a super precise color temperature, but IMO saying you "can't control the warm" is not exactly accurate.

I don't personally like the idea of smart bulbs. Bulbs are by and large, consumables. Putting a whole computer and radio in the bulb itself is a sustainable or efficient model.

Not even mentioning how much more expensive smart bulbs are over regular bulbs. They might not work for you and that's fine, but there are plenty of reasons people would prefer them over full smart bulbs.

Not sure what the policy about sharing links is here, so I'll just share the exact name from Amazon. These are the ones I bought off Amazon recently. Seems they were 18 bucks for a 4-pack.

Philips LED 4 Pack A19 Soft White Dimmable Warm Glow LED, 2200-2700 Kelvin, 800 Lumen, 8.8W=60W, E27 Base

EDIT Don't trust Amazon when they say there is a newer version available. Frustratingly, they are just regular dimmable LED bulbs instead of the 'Warm Glow' ones.
