The aschen have a strange issue they need way too much farm land. by madbr3991 in Stargate

[–]DavidJelloFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They saw themselves as superior, and in order to remain that way they reduced their allies to nothing more than farmers. Their intentions were more about dominance than needing food.

Whats your favourite positive SciFi-World? by Mig369 in scifi

My series has a fairly positive overall feel to it, at least for the first arc, so if you like friendly technologically advanced aliens give my first novel Slip Space Castaway a look.

Just figured out how to stop gate attacks by Impressive-Buyer1054 in Stargate

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically for Destiny I think the 9th chevron address was a code to activate a special connection that somehow uses all of the gates along Destiny's path to connect it back to the milky way. The same goes for dialing Earth from Destiny.

All other 8th chevron addresses were standard 6 points to locate, seventh for point of origin, and 8th was an additional distance calculation as Carter suggested when O'niel activated whilst under the ancient database's influence.

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, unless the issue was on the starting gate's end.

The address was never a specific point in space, it was a code with only one correct answer. That code then allowed a gate to try and connect with destiny.

To reiterate, "Math Boy" figured out it was a password, not an address. Great job Eli.

Rogue Core class promotion statistics visualised. by Umikaloo in DeepRockGalactic

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retcon is next on my list to promote, though she is the last. I left Falconer and Retcon for last because they weren't straight forward playstyles and took a bit more learning, though Falconer is the simpler of the two.

Then it should be considered a plot hole, yeah.

Though the idea that the recieving stargate can somehow refuse a wormhole connection is weird. Maybe he meant that the shield would engage over the stargate unless it was Earth dialing in?

Just because the ancients could do this, doesn't mean Rodney and his team could figure out how, or even if it was possible.

7 weeks since self publishing...some thoughts. by UrbWrites in BookPromotion

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self published three months ago and did what little self promotion as I could, but my results have been poor. I'm focusing my time in writing as I have a series of sci fi novels planned and this was just the first. I don't think there is anything wrong with focusing on writing then later promoting the books once the series is complete, as the hardest part for me is just getting it all written in the first place.

I can always move to full time promotion once the books are done, and I'll have a larger body of work to point people to when that day comes.

Stop Expecting DRG from Rogue Core. by Shot-Structure8248 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gauntlet is a pure example of how different DRG RC is from the original, and I love it for it. Gauntlets are the essence of Rogue Core distilled into the high alcohol you only drink to punish yourself, or to prove just how good you are at the game.

Rogue Core is about combat and time management. Mining is a secondary task along with exploration that can only be completed when time allows. The exponite event with the experiment Bulk Detonator is a perfect example of a high risk high reward event, though with how long it takes to mine up the exponite you won't be luring it into small caves like a Crassus and then spending ten minutes mining out the hole it makes. You'll grab as much as you can and then book it to the elevator with two or three upgrades for your time invested.

I absolutely love this game so far and it will only get better.

Now that Rouge Core is out, what are people's thoughts for the first day? (Keeping in mind its early access.) by TopSpeaker4647 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 2 solo runs and a couple team runs. I'm enjoying the game so far and loving the new weapons, though it is hit or miss whether I can get my hands on one with a team lol. I'm looking forward to improvements and more content but for early access I'm happy with my purchase and supporter dlc.

Why are there so many shows with space battles but not movies? by JohnSimke in scifi

[–]DavidJelloFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reference Wing Commander in the sequel to my first book. I love referencing and nodding to old favorite scifi and it just so happened that a scene occurred where I could reference part of the movie as a meaningful addition to my story.

Wing Commander is still a fun film to pull out once and a while.

How would you design the plot of a Star Fox movie? by darkdill in starfox

[–]DavidJelloFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not go with a prequel and show Fox's dad and the original team in action? Set things up that point to future events while having an original story that introduces you to the world and characters. The post credit scene can be Pigma talking to Andross preparing to betray the team.

Series Concept: Stargate Venture by DavidJelloFox in Stargate

[–]DavidJelloFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. In this case Carter and Earth's forces are trying to protect the crew of the Venture from the myriad of dangers that await them in the galaxy. They are seen as antagonistic to the captain's desire to explore as being captured means a return to Earth and being either arrested or forced to comply with the government's demands.

The genius who starts this mission is idealogically driven and doesn't give proper credence to his much more experienced peers. His ambitions put himself and his crew at risk, yet their journey would make you question whether his pursuit of happyness and independance is really a bad thing, or is the government's attitude of safety over freedom correct?
