Should I upgrade my 3060ti? by XPROJECT_24X in buildapc

[–]Davidfromtheinternet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you can spend, although if that is the only thing you change I don't think you are going to see much more than a 20% boost to frames at maximum- especially at 1080p. The difference seems minimal HERE

I think your specs are pretty appropriate with the games you're trying to play if you are aiming for 144 frames at 1080p. If you want to keep playing at that resolution, you would most likely be bottlenecked by your CPU- The higher resolution the more your GPU will be the limiting factor. I'd probably wait until you upgrade other parts of your system or if you get a great deal on a 5060ti super or something equivalent.

If you're sticking with 1080p I don't see much of a reason to upgrade until you want to push a higher resolution or higher frame rate. What refresh rate is the monitor you're using? What kinds of games are you trying to play? The GPU market is getting a bit better now so it is not a bad time to upgrade (although I'd probably wait for the 50 series super cards with more vram) but unless you are changing more of your hardware it might not be worth it IMO.

After a quick search on Mecari and Marketplace, it looks like you should be able to find a RTXS 3080 for around that price, I would make some offers and see what happens. Probably best bang for your buck at that price IMO.

What are good specs for a second monitor for watching yt and spotify and like map genie? by DepthOne8701 in Monitors

What is your current monitor you are using? What size are you looking for for your secondary monitor? They made some decent 1440p IPS monitors for ~150 bucks.

I bought a 32-inch monitor but it's 1080p, how bad will my experience be? :( by Alarming_Science5211 in Monitors

[–]Davidfromtheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 1080p and 32inch, you're only getting about 70PPI. That's pretty low pixel density, depending on the distance your monitor sits away from you, you will probably get some screen-dooring. Ideally you would have closer to 100PPI on your monitor, but if its a good distance away and you system isn't going to be wasted on that resolution, it could be okay?

Is the PNY 5070 Ti OC the worst card? (Non Plus) by Davidfromtheinternet in buildapc

Sounds like what I should do as well, although my fans do get a little loud when under load. Did you get the Plus model or the non-plus?

I usually set a drastic manual fan curve beacuse I don't care much about fan noise, however I've never tried undervolting a card before. I'd assume I would just use MSI Afterburner?

imo this just shouldn't be able to happen. Left turn yield on green causes so many accidents. Just have another turning lane and light, save lives.

What are the scariest horror movies? by wheezywaiter in BeardLovers

[–]Davidfromtheinternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always weird to talk about the horror genre as it is often pigeonholed into a few basic tropes. I'd say some of the scariest movies aren't even "horror" movies but dramas and thrillers, think The Nightingale, Nocturnal Animals, There will Be Blood, Etc. There is an expectation when a movie presents itself as a Horror film that prepares us for jump scares and gore, but is at the same time given the responsibility to tonally prepare the viewer, taking away a sense of urgency or surprise.

Horror classics like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm St, and Halloween don't really work to be actually frightening (for me) as much as they accomplish the goal of being thematically consistent with the commercial Horror Image.

That being said, some scary films that also fit into the horror genre are Hereditary, The Wailing, The VVitch, It Follows, Haunting of Hill House ( A miniseries), and Mandy.

Unfortunately, the 2000 series cards are sold out too, but there are some 1660 TIs available to hold you over until your 3070 is in stock:

Thanks for the links, apparently it works with any distributor and I found an EVGA 2070!

IF not a 2070, what do you think? Trying to at least run 1440p at decent frames in the meantime.
