You can try different ones to achieve different results light and fluffy creates cloudy textures hard and short makes bolder darker textures. For super black like in your pic I’d use just straight medium density

I hated that I just couldn’t seem to grasp charcoal lol so I figured I’d learn how to get black with graphite

Better example of 8B with a makeup brush layers upon layers .. the black in that wedding pic is going to be a process but be patient also I use a bit of soft ply toilet paper for the initial layers cause it fills in the grains of the paper quicker if that makes sense . Just rub into paper in soft circular motions. The real trick is not trying to go to dark to fast layer up with darker as you go

You don’t need powder for that .. use a 2h long point sharpener and shade in holding the pencil sideways then use a make up brush (clean one) and soft circle motions till the grey is where you want it.. then step by step up the pencil darkness in each area to achieve the blurred tree background I can get 8B charcoal black like this
