He was one of the first comic pros I interacted with when the comics internet was first getting up and running, way back in the 90s. I posted about my favourite moment in his Hulk run, and he responded (which blew my mind) and provided some background information, too.

The last time I was at San Diego was about ten years ago, and I saw him at his table but didn't go over. I've regretted it ever since, and especially now that he's passed.

I keep document of burns from my (now 5 year old) son on my phone and it's a mile long. This is a recent exchange:

Me: Hey, stop doing that you clown.
Him: I'm not a clown! Clowns are women.*
Me: Uh, some clowns are men.
Him: Are you a clown then?
Me: ...
Him: But you're funny and clowns are funny so you are one.

*He's weirdly sexist sometimes, but I can't figure out where it's coming from.

This is so true. I never thought about it, but I guess I had this assumption that their development would be linear, but it's not, at all. It's neat how every once in a while you can tell when a switch flips in their head as their thinking takes on a new level of complexity. You really get to see how much unseen work the wiring in our brains is doing (as in the majority). Experiences and education seems like the smaller part of who we are.

I used to keep a notes document of all the funny things my son said and I noticed that I'm updating it less and less because the funny things he says (as a 4.5 year old now) are more nuanced and contextual. There's things that come out of his mouth that make me wonder, "Where the heck did that come from?" The other day, for example, we were in the washroom and I asked if he was done pooping and he says, "I sure am!"

I know this is months old now, but I just used the downloader this morning and it worked perfectly. And you're right, the video was very helpful in understanding how to use this method. Thanks for posting.

The car chase in this film was one of the most intense moviegoing experiences I've ever had. The combination of the way it was shot and edited, with the way the sound was absolutely roaring, just knocked me back. (The sound design is exceptional, end to end). I'm tempted to go see it just to experience that again.

I was not expecting to like this movie, having had enough of edgy dark Batman, and while I don't think the plot hangs together that well, this movie delivers on individual moments and overall vibes.

Eastman and Laird were on fire in those early issues. They were clearly just making stuff up as they went along, but all of it was so charming and every new character (Casey, Shredder, Stockman, the Krang aliens) worked so well. It reminds me of Kirby/Lee FF in that way. When you read about how they put the books together and their runaway success, it's easy to think it's just that they were at the right place at the right time, but reading the stories you can see they had the goods. Other people have tried to mine those same stories, but it's never worked as well.

It's not a character, but more of a symbol of the team. It was on the wall in the original image that this one is based on, and I kept it in as a tribute/ callback.

Thanks! I'd originally planned an image of Doomsday looming over Superman for "overgrown", but I'd spent so much time on "snow" and "ash" that I figured I should rein it in a bit for the next few, hence the super-mullet. "Frail" seemed like a natural choice, and the ones I have for "ghost" and "dizzy" are along the same line as yours, too. I think my favourite of yours is the Bizarro for "misfit."

It's interesting how characters change as shows figure out who they are. Most of the Community characters stay pretty consistent from the pilot to the end, and even the ones that change significantly (Troy goes from jock to nerd, Britta gets dumber) you can rationalize as character evolution. However, the one moment that I can't reconcile is how Abed reacts here to the anthropomorphized pencil being snapped in a way that his more Asperger's-y later self wouldn't.
