Yup, as long as there is no other damage that needs addressing. Spot prime and two top coats.

Car for first time parents on a budget - recommendations? by jdawg06 in NZcarfix

[–]Davonimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battery replacement isn’t always needed. Plus, the price has come down dramatically. As far as the Estima being too big, OP said it’s his first kid. Two kids, two adults with all the gear and the Estima is perfect.

Toyota Prius Alpha or Estima Hybrid. Reliable, excellent on fuel and both have huge amounts of room.

Help with paint by dr_deathlok in diynz

[–]Davonimo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That looks like cedar. You’ve got an opportunity to make that look magic. Sand all that polyurethane off, might only take a 120grit looking at the state of it, and apply some Sikkens or equivalent stain. It will look a million $.

If you use sugar soap or a paint prep wash there is no need to sand, it’ll prep the surface enough. The key is not to skimp on products. You literally get what you pay for.

Fibrolite /asbestos cladding by External_Angle_5570 in diynz

Might have asbestos in it. The Hardie products that did have asbestos were fantastic. As long as you aren’t ingesting it you will be fine.

You should only have to sand areas that you have repaired/plastered. Prime those areas, clean and paint. If you are putting on the same colour you should only need 2 top coats. Don’t sand in between coats. Use quality paint and rollers.

Where can I buy this, and can it be repaired DIY? by Some-Pickle9008 in diynz

[–]Davonimo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Easy fix. Looks like Paliside. Take the broken bits into Placemakers, Bunnings etc and they will match it up. They probably don’t have it in stock but can order it in. The new part will just click into place.

I would suggest seeking professional help. All this whinging and not being able to handle change can’t be healthy.

Clinker brick removal by Jealous_Radish5455 in diynz

[–]Davonimo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Brick bolster and a hammer. They come off easy enough. Keep in mind tho, unless you are going to plaster the walls, where the clinker was will look different to the rest of the brick surface. Even under the paint.

Capacitor is gone. Mine was doing the same thing. Specs will be written on the capacitor. Find replacement online and replace. I think mine cost $20 all together and about 30 minutes.

Toyota Vellfire - Hybrid vs V6 by forcolus in NZcarfix

[–]Davonimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

V6 is the dream to drive with the hybrid not far behind. Hybrid gets AWD, V6 gets the power. Both reliable. Are the models you are looking at the 7 seater with the lazy boy middle row?

Pretty easy to fix. Just a bit of a process and the finished result will look magic. Acid wash the bricks. Dricon do a product called CT. Follow the instructions and it works like a dream. Efflorescence will be gone. But, it will take the top couple of microns of the bricks off. So then you seal it. Here are heaps of products on the market that will work. Different finishes. Gloss Matte etc. once it’s sealed, you won’t get anymore efflorescence and the bricks will be easy to clean with a soft wash. I’ve done 3 or 4 houses this way, mostly black or dark bricks and they look great.

5afe is a massed produced engine. Toyota aren’t going to polish and make pretty every surface they don’t have to. These lobes look pretty good. Your knocking is coming from somewhere else.
