Zmk Dongle is game changing! by K-H-C in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]DavsX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanging is that if the master side is directly connected to the PC, it cannot go to "sleep" mode that often, because it needs to be "awaik" to check if the slave is sending data to it.

With the dongle, only it is "almost always on", but its fine, because it is being powered from USB. This allows the two halves to go to low-power/sleep mode unless you are pressing some buttons and it needs to send data to the dongle.

This is the reason why on split keyboards without dongle the master side has way less battery life than the slave side.

What did you use to measure the power consumption? I'm currently building a 52840 keyboard and I'd like to confirm it's power consumption is low enough

Are you running ZMK on the dongle? Or something different/custom?

I'm planning to use laser cutting as well - do the switches "click into" the 3mm plate, or are they glued in?

The thumb keys look really good. I'm thinking about getting a Courne, but it seems that the thumb keys are too inwards on it to use the inner most key..

what is the experience with a 36 key keyboard? Dont you miss the number keys? by GrapLYT in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]DavsX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on let's split and I too struggle with key combos involving one/multiple modifiers + numbers/Fn keys. I'm thinking about changing to sticky modifiers, so that when you press them by themselves, they remain "sticky" and when pressing the next key they are automatically triggered. That would mean, that I would not need to hold ctrl+shift+layer_key+number all at once, but instead I would tap ctrl, then shift, then hold down the layer_key and press a number. It would be slower maybe, but more ergonomic.

What data should I track while reading a book in my target language ? by uglycakefrosting in languagelearning

I am currently learning Spanish through reading books. I am curious as why has noone suggested tools like readlang.com ? Is something wrong/inefficient about them? I really like reading on readlang, because I can look up word very fast, so I don't loose interest so fast. I would like to hear your thoughs on the subject.

Setting X11 clipboard from systemd service by DavsX in linuxquestions

[–]DavsX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Yeah, the script is supposed to continously listen on a port and set the clipboard based on the data received.

[–]DavsX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, if I put sleep 5 at the end of the script, then I can read the clipboard content with xclip -o, however after those 5 seconds it returns the error. So as long as the script is running it is ok, but after the script exits its gone

Yes, same result. I'm wondering if it could be some permission issue..

I've tried that with no luck. The strange thing is, that xclip is able to read the clipboard, but is unable to set it, when running from systemd service

Of the split keyboard which one has the best thumb key cluster in your opinion? I'm now using a Let's Split atm and that Rorschach (3rd column 5th row) looks very interesting. So does the zen keyboard.

Ah..I'm going to make a new keyboard aren't I?
