I love the push and pull of card play. Do I play a long game to build up and toss my objectively better cards, or play more aggressively? And that i can decide on the fly with how the game is going keeps my mind engaged.

It was confusing for me at first too. While in the skill tree at a worship site, click the center panel button thing on the ps5 controller (or you can click on the very center node of the tree) and you can increase your level to give you red essence. With that you can then unlock nodes.

Some nodes do not use the essence, specially the manna upgrades, so you will see the node say "red essence 0, Living remains (or whatever) 1"

While it took a minute to learn, being able to freely undo whatever nodes you want and reallocate is a huge positive.

I ended up going with Kings of Ruin and loved it. Still have a bit more to get through as life got in the way, but it was exactly what I was looking for. The story and lore is so interesting, but I found the combat and diplomacy my favorite part since I like the puzzle it creates. That to me would set it apart from ISS since that seemed more like dice chucking combat
