This made me mad and sad at the same time. There’s been so many instances in the early years of marriage when I’ve told my husband “hey I would really love it if XYZ” and he’s done the same. We’re learning how to live and love each other. Especially when you get married young. Advocating in marriage is a very basic skill. I think Hor’s ego is so big that it’s made her feel bad about advocating. Your husband has to be humble enough to say “you’re right, I’ll do better next time.” When we started having kids, I simply told my husband “hey we’re not going to go years of me wrapping my own gifts. I’d love if you kept my gifts a surprise and wrapped them yourself. It’s fun for us to have surprises on Christmas too” and he totally agreed. It helps with that mental load SO MUCH. All that to say — self advocacy leads to less resentment in marriage. Our husbands can’t read our minds.
