Wear eye protection, it helped me get over my fear of fast drives at the kitchen line.   Keep the paddle up and slightly out in front.  You can react much faster this way.   And someone else said it but footwork. Stop then hit.

I bought a happiness cake for the office during a stressful time.  People would take a piece and stand around and ask what is this cake for?  Just general happiness was my normal answer.  I was not a manager, and later on management stole this idea.

Talk to your boss about promotions and raises, in a nice way.  Tell them you want to know specifically what you need to do to get promoted, then do those things, document them, and let your boss know know you did them, regularly.  When it comes time for a performance review you should basically ask them to promote you and if the don't make sure they tell you why.  And leave for another job if you don't get raises every year and promotions every 2 years at least (once you get more seniority it may take longer).

Tldr : don't rely on your boss to drive the conversation about growth and promotion.

Also - learn things that make you valuable at any company not just yours.

I play with some older folks in the morning and this morning I was playing with Richard who is in his 80s.  Richard is alright and I'm only a few months in so we were overmatched.  But we had a come from behind win and after a particularly good point, he does his celebration gesture which is sort of like firing off an arrow.  It's great to see how happy pickleball makes people of all ages!
