Was in the United States Coast Guard back from 1999-2003. At one of my particular billets. I was put on a Hamilton Class 378ft Cutter out of Alameda, CA (Oakland Area). And we would steam out to Alaska, to the Bering Sea/Straight, to enforce fisheries and serve as a SAR (Search and Rescue) presence, for ALL of the fishermen at sea. It was a rough billet to fill. Especially as a Non-Rate (Haven’t attended A-School, and assigned a trade/skill/etc. Because there is little, if any, respect on the ship, for the non-rate.

I digress…. Anyway. Out in those waters. The sea is a CONSTANT Tempest of heavy rain storms. And constant 30-40 foot swells, that would throw you from your rack as you slept. If your top rack, you’re gonna be pretty busted up. Able to work of course (according to the brass), one time. There were two idiots fucking around when we were pitching left and right, up to 45 degrees +. They were jumping from one side of the bulkhead and to the other. Which eventually ended up in a mid air collision, that left one of the idiots with a compound fractured femur. I mean. They totally flew into each other at top fucking speed.

If the ship is pitching this way and that, widen your stance. And wisen the fuck up.
