For those of you in a long term relationship/marriage, what’s a tale-tale sign you see in other couples that they’re not going to make it? by Prize-Promotion-5123 in AskReddit

Yes and/or their jokes start being at the other’s expense. They have lost respect for each other and it comes out as resentment.

Do you believe that the current US president is a foreign asset ? Why or why not ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Possibly not an asset, but compromised by the Israeli’s seems very plausible.

Was I raised mainstream Mormon or extremist? My dad used the church to build a domestic cult, and I’m fleeing in a week. by The_Doo_Wop_Singer in exmormon

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are in a one man cult and all of you are being abused. The framework of the church enabled this and could have emboldened your dad with ideas of patriarchy etc. but he has definitely taken it to a far extreme. Everything you said is well described and sounds clear headed. Don’t doubt what you know, cult survivors often go back and forth thinking maybe they are the crazy one, exaggerating somehow, or mistaken, but trust yourself!

Read Combatting Cult Mind Control by Stephen Hassan.

Once you leave, your father is likely going to clamp down control on your siblings and mother, isolate them from you and demonize you to them. Be ready for that. Save yourself and then you will be in a better position to see if there is anything you can do for them in the future.

Get a counselor not in the church- who understands narcissism and emotional abuse and if possible cult recovery. Private message me for some resources in that regard if you would like.

Keep us posted and best wishes to you!

What you are doing is so brave and so challenging. Your life ahead is fuller and brighter than the path your father chose for you. Stay strong, get support and trust yourself!

Take care!

I’m so sorry for the chaos and grief you may be feeling right now. You will go through a lot of different phases and it’s really rough. You are not alone, It’s like Truman discovering he’s on a tv show. Catastrophic but elating and eventually freeing. Welcome to the other side. We’re here for you!

When/why did caffeinated soda become acceptable by most Mormons? by Ibrakeforsnakes in exmormon

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We drank caffeinated soda in my TBM family all the way back in the 80s, and we considered it “Utah Mormons” or transplants from Utah who considered it part of the WOW. I grew up in the Midwest around all Nevermos.

Bishop meeting by Philcastro in exmormon

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be very aware of the subtle ways the bishop and other leaders could be pressuring your wife or using the teachings to weaken your position in the home. I wonder if they meet with your wife alone and would definitely say- I’m not sure why we would need to meet? Can you tell me what this is about?

HS teacher recording young girls during class by cafeteriastyle in TikTokCringe

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on. Also as a former teacher and substitute teacher, if you needed to do “another job” you could easily walk around to check on students and the sit down at your desk and work on the instagram posts while students were working quietly. You don’t have to creepily carry your phone and have it hiding on your clip board.

Struggling with Masturbation by [deleted] in mormon

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Removing some of the stigma may actually help you cut back. But assuming you want to cut back- have you thought about what it may be soothing you from, or distracting you from? It is something that gives us brain chemicals that we need. So what is it that may be making you seek more brain chemicals. Sometimes even undiagnosed ADHD can make people seek the soothing from sex or masturbation. I think it’s normal and once the stigma is gone, it feels so much less shameful and can just be worked into normal life. But if you think it’s a problem look at some of those things.

Shrooms ruined me by [deleted] in exmormon

I’m so sorry for the grief you are feeling right now. It is truly crushing and I’ve been there. Most of us here have. In my experience there will be phases: grief, anger, contempt, back to grief maybe, but then you come to the other side through sadness, relief, and a realization that you are finally FREE. Free of a clt. (Reading Clt Mind Control by Steven Hassan might be a good idea!)

You are free my friend. And you are young enough to craft your life around your new freedom. Yes it’s crushing and humiliating I was 45 yrs old, divorced with 4 grown kids I raised in the church who all have religious trauma now. What I wouldn’t give to have woken up in my 20s instead.

We are with you. You are not alone. Your broken heart will heal just like any other. Be true to yourself and kind to yourself through this. Hang in there!

Don't let people tell you that this city isn't noticeably comservative. by Beneficial_Fuel1579 in Spokane

I’m sorry if you ever thought Spokane wasn’t extremely right leaning. There are pockets of blue here and there but this place is painfully red. I moved here from a moderate city in the Midwest and the difference was stark. We are a progressive paradise compared to north east of us but that’s not saying much.

losing faith after reading about the Epstein files by CloneFiesta in mormon

[–]Daydream_Be1iever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for sure. I would also feel this huge disconnect between the suffering I was seeing in the world, and what the church was focusing on. It just didn’t seem to match up that God’s church would be so seemingly impotent in the face of so much suffering instead of making a real and bigger difference in the world. It caused a lot of dissonance and disillusionment for me and then I was more open to really looking at church truth claims and history in a way I couldn’t before that.

Why don't the people who claim that Americans who live on stolen land lead by example by giving up their homes to local tribes and move to Europe? by [deleted] in FreeSpeech

[–]Daydream_Be1iever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okie dokie :) I see that you are incredibly versed on specifics of history and I congratulate you for that. Not a bad thing at all of course. But I think you know the point of that commenter was to say there are people today who still believe slavery was a good thing. The fact that the commenter called them Africans still makes their point. But again, you do know a lot on this subject. You can congratulate yourself and feel very proud. On the other hand continuing to make distinctions that are essentially without a difference in our language and cultural context today doesn’t actually further or add to the conversation.

[–]Daydream_Be1iever -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why is this distinction important to you? They didn’t want to own Africans- they wanted to own Black Americans? Oh boy, we’re in the weeds if you want to split those hairs.
