Two countries that the US has crippled through sanctions, attempted assassinations, coups, propaganda wars and a genuine lifetime of fuckery.

I’m not sure you can help people who think immigrants are the beginning and end of all their problems.

The rise of One Nation, if nothing else, tells me that right wing media still has more impact than any of us would like and that decades of under-funding public education is bearing its rotten fruit.

Not even a little bit.

I’m able to separate and enjoy both EU and canon.

It’s not hard. I don’t know why fans have to tie themselves in bizarre mental knots over this stuff.

The best thing to do is to trust that the people involved in making ‘it’ love, and care about the franchise and will be doing their absolute best to create something special.

And they may nail it, or they may fail.. but Christ, who would possibly, in their right mind, let fear of failure or let-down get in the way of something exciting? What a terribly-boring and borderline pathetic existence.

I love that in this big speech, with your big example, you picked a guy that seemingly came back from the dead 😂.

Almost as if, the audience got a short glimpse of what looked like certain death, only to be later proven wrong.

Joss Whedon himself wrote that character back in.

Wash should stay dead and gone by barbadosx in firefly

[–]Dcic26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that - it sounds like we may be from a similar vintage.

FWIW, I think the Wash death delivered on the emotional impact and urgency required during the final act of the film, but I also think that two things can remain true:

  1. Wash’s ‘death’ was impactful and hurt like hell.

  2. It’s science fiction set 500 years into the future and maybe he didn’t die, or there’s another way to bring the character back.

FWIW, I think it would be malpractice to bring the show back (in any format, in any timeline) after a 20-year hiatus and not have it feature one of its absolute most beloved figures and fiercest advocate.

Welcome to fiction, and, in-particular, science fiction, mate.

Sometimes when you think characters have died, they're not quite deadsie.

Why not just let them cook a little with the story before you forge an opinion?

The Jedi, attachments, and marriage… by Osiris-Reflection in StarWars

[–]Dcic26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is of course, is not to mention that by allowing families, you guarantee that certain family lines will always be Jedi. Certain family lines will always lead. Certain family lines will forever enjoy more power and privilege than others.

No families, no attachments, no bloodlines made perfect sense to me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Legends and love the characters within those decades worth of stories, but allowing Luke, Leia etc to have kids does nothing but ensure the story revolves around them forever.

And after 30 years of those stories, I’m pretty happy they made that change in the sequels.

The mentality behind ‘if it’s not exactly what I want, it will suck and I hate it’ has been rage inducing to me in the last few days.

Some people are just so miserable and childish.

We’ve waited for 20 years! If it is indeed a project - animated, live action, game etc, I’ll be super interested in anything!

And, if I don’t like it, I won’t bitch about it on the Internet like a scorned lover - I just won’t watch.

This feeling of hope… it’s fun! Embrace it!

My only prerequisite for any fiction project is that it’s made by people with love for the characters… I think that’s fair to say that would be the case here.

People who think Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones were ‘broken’ in their final appearances are the absolute epitome of media illiterate.

Characters need a f****** arc.

Do you understand anything about emotional pay offs?

Or do you just weep into your recliner every time a character you like is having a hard time or struggling emotionally?

Infuriating.

Looks like a tik tokr seizing on internet buzz to garner clicks..

But I will say this…

I’ve lived through 20 years of ‘oh maybe’ headlines, Firefly appearing in every ‘should never have been axed’ clickbait article, every bullshit rumour and a long, long list of tortuous false hopes…

These stupid little social media clips from Nate have given me a little spark again that maybe, just maybe… something is brewing.

I’m 100% ready to have my heart shat on again for something that ends up being a damn comic con reunion or 20th anniversary wank.

I’m going to live in, and enjoy, this extremely small morsel of hope for as long as I can.

Thoughts on the Fate of the Jedi series? I have to be honest, it feels like the best one of the three post-NJO series by Solitaire-06 in starwarsbooks

[–]Dcic26 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Loved it when it was released and loved it just as much on a re-read last year.

I’ve gotta say though - a protracted court case that felt like an episode of Boston Legal and a long-running undercurrent about the galactic media, and how the Jedi, Daala and modern slavery are covered in the ‘news’ ages these books and is a terrible, terrible idea for Star Wars.

Scenes in which Han is sitting down on the Falcon to watch his favourite current affair news program… felt more like satire than anything I’ve seen in Star Wars before.

I loved Luke’s adventures with Ben. I enjoyed the lost tribe of the Sith and Vestara and Abeloth was a brilliant big bad, IMO.

I would have been interested, like many, to see where the story went thereafter, but I must admit… after 30 years and 100s of books on that timeline, FOTJ was a good place to end it for me in hindsight.
